Do we have to pay for these now?

      yeah..time has changed :(

No more free Boost SIMs :(

    • -1

      What an abomination 😞

    • +2

Yeah it's gone from free Boost SIMs to soon paying minimum $300 for a 12 month plan :/

      • Amaysim $2 or 50 cents after cashback every 28 days?

    • Boost-sim: even if there're profit-deals, dare-to-risk ShopBack-Boost criteria-> 'Special notes from store…Cashback is applicable only to NEW Boost customers.'

Boost also noted 'NEW customers': https://boost.com.au/pages/prepaid-plans

    No profit no deal

I haven't gotten out of bed for two months

      • I haven't bought a Tesla this year.

  • NEW Customers only

    Any risk-takers & your-thoughts ?

@ab c If it's Telstra, in the last year, I've been able to get the Telstra staff on the phone to transfer my existing Telstra number across to the new SIM card. I did it twice on a 6 month and 12 month starter pack that is for new customers. I use the new SIM card with the extra GB activated and keep my existing number. The old service is cancelled and the new service is activated but with my existing number. It took less than half an hour.

      • My apology, mis-read.

      • That's good to know. What happens if it doesn't work, can you use the starter pack as a simple recharge?

        • +2

@cykezero If Telstra refuses to help, you port into another telco and out. I've a $2 Lebara SIM card to port into. I wanted the extra data from the starter pack and Telstra staff helped me to activate without porting into another Telco and out.

Sometimes the $2 Lebara SIM sells for $1 at Coles or Woolworths: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/844300

          • @trixieb: Yeah thanks, was hoping to avoid doing that as it is a bit painful. I pretty much want to do what you do, although I will likely go to Boost in 12 months, given the increase in prices by Telstra.

Consider 'Enjoy 30GB of data, unlimited talk and 1000 texts to standard Australian numbers, completely free for 7 days.'-> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15549406/redir

    • I'm with Telstra and found it to be the best where I'm located. I bought an Amaysim 28 day SIM a month ago for a spare phone but it doesn't connect to the internet often. Amaysim uses Optus but I'm not sure if Optus is better than Amaysim.

      • Fair-comments, where ever you are.

Users come from MANY-locations & EACH is likely to have different-experience.

        If you're in METRO-area, test-out Vodafone ?

I live 10km of CBD & I have used ALL-mobile-carriers in the last 3 months.
        OFF-Peak: Vodafone: via-Lebara delivered,
        a.290Mbps via FAST-speed-test: 18Jun24 1205hr &
        b.12-18MB/s actual-torrent download-speed: 20Jun24 0100hr
        Impressive…30% faster than Boost & Amaysim ?

        Peak-hrs: ALL-carriers restricted-speed, 1 MB/s ish actual download speed.

I'm in the metro area. It would be Telstra > Boost > Optus/Amaysim > Vodafone

I've a few friends with Vodafone and it can sometimes take days to receive and send images/photos. They also experienced this delay with other friends.

          • @trixieb: Boost is supposed to be the full Telstra network. My partner activated Boost recently and they success SMS came from Telstra.

            • +1

@cykezero: Yes, Boost is supposed to be the same but I still find Telstra's connection to be a little better.

        • I am in Sydney City. Vodafone speedtest usually around 270/280 Mbps, Amaysim around 170 Mbps, Boost Mobile previously around 150 Mbps if I remember correctly. I use Oneplus Nord CE3 Lite phone.

          • @neoleo: On the 12 month plans, boost limit you to 150 Mbps, so does Telstra

  • Of course Telstra $35 drops price after this.

    From Telstra:

Our Pre-Paid Mobile Plan prices are increasing.

Of course Telstra plans can't be cheaper than Boost.

  • Can you technically buy 12 of these — and use 1 every month just for data (dont need the number so just cancel after the month is up and keep auto recharge deactivated)?

    • Yes if the SIM card's expiry on the packet is within your 12 months.

However the data is reduced as you won't get the bonus data if you don't activate by 5th August 2024.

28 day data for the rest of your SIM cards (say 11 of them) will be reduced to:

      • Boost 25GB
      • Telstra 15GB

        thanks - makes sense.

  • Does the Telstra sim have $35 value that can be activated on any plan? Looking for a cheap $35 casual 6 month plan for my 90 year old mother whose Boost annual plan is about to expire. She doesn’t use data only calls & texts.

  • Their 60GB SIM is $20 with $14 cashback.
