  • Looking to grab a new camera set up for new house. Anyone recommend this at the price point ? Agree with OP seems like a pretty solid deal

Depends a lot on what you want from them, there is no subscription fee with Eufy, but the recognition algorithms can be flakey - these are not a 24/7 recording camera, but trigger based on what it discerns as movement, though can be very susceptible to false triggers or missed triggers due to lighting, aspect, time of day, the number of spanners in your tool kit ……

I have not had much trouble with mine, but the eufy users group on Facebook is full of people whining about how crap they are or how they don't do what the user wants.

      • Yeah, personally wouldn't recommend these (have a set myself).

If a neighbour asks you the next morning - "hey do you have any footage of a black car going down the street at 3am?" you wouldn't be able to help them if the camera didn't detect that event first (no 24/7 recording).

So point I'm trying to make is - you can't just rewind and look at footage from a specific time.

it is the same with most of the battery units from various manufacturers , better to get something that is powered or PoE for 24/7 recording, wifi battery units are a convenience thing so you don't have to run cables.

    • They have person detection which can be helpful during the day but it doesn't have person detection at night, so therefore you can't keep alerts on at night which defeats the purpose of a security camera. I mean it would depend on where your cameras are, I have them outside where many things that aren't burglars will set them off. Mostly cats and possums for me, and because they are also triggered by moving bushes trees, they would also alert at night in theory but I don't normally have that problem, probably because not normally windy at night ( for me)

      • i'm pretty sure by default it will detect everything at night (seen the guidelines written somewhere in the app) even when you tick ONLY HUMAN. Obviously i get too many notifications, including a spider dangling down or insects flew by. I ended up turning down the sensitivity to avoid unnecessary triggers. But when I'm on holiday, i positioned the cameras in a way that any trigger is likely caused by unexpected trespassers.

  • Cheers mate, I won't have the option to use hard wired due to limited outside power and not keen to run heaps of cables. Do you know what the range is like, as in how close they need to be from the base to stay connected ? Think I might bite the bullet.

    • I have the furthest about 30m from the base station and it is fine, but depends a lot on how many walls and construction type between base and camera, you can move the base station around for better coverage

  • OOS :(
