I don’t understand why you wouldn’t pay for a permanent filtered twin system over using these filters. You can get a system similar to puratap for $250 installed. Filtering is a lot better and I can change the filters myself

    • +9

thanks, what is that, do you have a link?

    • +2

i think puratap is a SA only company.

Thats cause we got the s****** water in the country 🤣

    • +8

A pain to do if you're renting an apartment tho? I haven't looked into it yet.

    • How much does filter cost and how often do you have to change?

      • yearly replacements around 50$-100$ depending on what company you use.

    • +6

No such thing as permanent filters. They all need replacing.

    • Can you even get the puratap for $250 in NSW?

    • +4

I looked into this both DIY and companies and the options were basically all:
      1. horribly reviewed;
      2. horribly expensive with ongoing costs; or
      3. both.

How much do the under sink filters cost?

This pack of Maxtra Pro cartridges will filter water for 1.4 years for me for $76.53.

      • USA Five Stage Reverse Osmosis. $795.00 ( price includes install in AUS ) $120 per year for filters

        • +2

I think I'll just drink the algae and be done with it.

          • @hamwhisperer: algae extra protein

But your getting lots of chemicals and microplastics + other dissolved solids that most people don't want in their water. ( even if they are at super super low levels )

    • +1

Not sure why this is getting negged.
My research has shown Brita is generally lower ranked for filtering things like heavy metals and PFAS when compared to other jugs or bench filters.
      40% brita vs 90+% competitor/undersink
Under sink does require extra outlay but there is a significant improvement and annual costs would be similar.
A 7 stage with reverse osmosis and tank is around $320

I use a filter jug at work after they declined to install one.

      • +1

Yeah fair enough, installation is not applicable to everyone.

        Work, rentals etc.

  • Sorry if this is a dumb question

For checking cashback what Amazon section are the brita jugs and filters under ?

I usually can find it under Amazon product descriptions but not for these on this occasion

    • It's apparently always the category in Bold on the top-left corner - so "Home Improvement", which is currently at 15% cashback from CashRewards today.

      • Ok thanks. I thought kitchen which is also 15% at CR

  • +1

Would this still work well if your water isnt considered hard water?

    • This is a good question.

  • +1

Brita Maxtra Pro cartridges from the UK are significantly heavier than the Maxtra cartridges here. I use cartridges for 6 weeks instead of the recommended 4, and after 6 weeks the Maxtra Pro cartridges deliver water that tastes better than when using locally sourced cartridges.

    • +6

This is ozbargain, Brita filters should be lasting you 6 months minimum!

      • +1

Heh, I tried to stretch filter life to 8 weeks but there was a noticeable deterioration in water taste. I'm also in Adelaide, where local authorities are rather generous with chlorine addition.

        • Can't agree more, although I'm in NSW.

      • +1

Run the bastards through the dishwasher 3 times then leave em out to the sun to dry for 2 days, then run 2L of water through em just to filter out the soap.

        • lol nice. Wash in baking soda ( Bicarbonate of Soda) and water instead

        • +1

The filters are not designed to be reused. the filter material inside breaks down over time its not a good idea to wash them

  • Limescale Expert and All in 1, which one better?

    • Obviously the all in one must be better because its… all in one. Although with 15% cashback today can't complain at $76 for a dozen. Also I've used all types of Brita filters I didn't notice any difference in taste between them.

  • expired? the price is $92.14 now
