Is anyone going to buy this?
    Serious question

    United States of Australia

    MAGA

    • Probably very few, but it will probably cause some pearl clutching.

@Clear How many negs for you to consider buying? It would look good next to Thai Honey…

      • “pearl clutching” - haven’t heard that one before.

I have Obamas boon somewhere, would look good next to that.

And I am not googling Thai Honey!

        • Obamas audio book i thought was quite good.

Not so much political stuff as i thought it would be.

        • Did you say Thai Honey?

    • +3

No. Thanks for saving me 26.99 bucks

    • +1

It's 'MAGOA' now, get with it

    • +2

      It's a bestseller, so yes.

mid 20s hillbilly should write a memoir, which is the most millennial thing ever. A memoir of his life as somebody who had never done anything or held a job just because he was at Yale Law School

    • +1

Pretty sure this was after he was working in a big firm

  • Every newsreader on fox news claim this is an amazing read

  • -1

I'm looking forward to the Albanese memoirs

    • +3

Empty pages, just like his policies

      • -1

Because Scotty's was full of level headed, intelligently informed…. Oh wait. It was a load of evangelical bullshit.

I know who I'd rather have as prime minister

        • -1

Typical.. instead of calling out loser leadership you fall back to.. what about ism

          • -1

@vash5: I'd much rather a prime minister who causes little harm. Politics is what about ism. You are delusional if you don't think so. How can you establish the performance of a leader without comparison? Liberal governments are constantly disparaging the labor government, but if you compare their performance to the years that the liberals were in power, the labor government are consistently better in almost every qualitative measure.

Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

            • @prizefightinyeti:

              1. You seem to think i vote lib 😂 i dont

but if you compare their performance to the years that the liberals were in power, the labor government are consistently better in almost every qualitative measure.

              1. Great, then that should be very easy for you to provide references to uphold your statement. Ill be waiting

Skip the book, its a movie i believe

    • -1

      On Fox News every night?

    • Deliverance?

      • No wait. It’s that TV series Ozark, isn’t it?

  • Doesn't he dedicate three pages of this book to sharing how he had sex with a sofa?

    • Sounds like it might really go with Thai Honey if that’s the case…

    • Can you buy this and take a photo of that page. As funny as it sounds I couldn't find any proof. But it's so widespread surely it isn't made up…

      • +1

Ok I didn't buy the book, but I tracked down a copy from an alternative source….

It is not in the book at all. Guess I fell for twitter misinformation.

    • +1

You never had sex in sofa before?

      • With, not in.

        • The guy I responded too said in, hence my question

"J.D. Vance once feared that Donald Trump might become “America’s Hitler.” Now he’s Trump’s running mate. But never mind that history. Trump and Vance have a lot of things, including this, in common: They’re both con men who despise their most avid supporters.

Indeed, Vance, despite stiff competition, may be the most cynical major figure in modern American politics. You never know whether Trump believes the false things he says; Vance is smart enough to know that he has pulled off a monumental political bait-and-switch."

Paul Krugman doesnt like a Republican. Im shocked!

      • +2

“I don’t know that I can disrespect someone more than J. D. Vance."

“I do wonder, how do you make that decision?” Romney mused to me as Vance was degrading himself on the campaign trail that summer. “How can you go over a line so stark as that—and for what?” Romney wished he could grab Vance by the shoulders and scream: This is not worth it! “It’s not like you’re going to be famous and powerful because you became a United States senator. It’s like, really? You sell yourself so cheap?” The prospect of having Vance in the caucus made Romney uncomfortable. “How do you sit next to him at lunch?”

        • +3

          Also by Krugman

*”By 2005 or so, it will become clear that the Internet’s impact on the economy has been no greater than the fax machine’s.”

  • +7

I read it when it came out, and it is a good memoir of the challenges growing up in poverty as a 'hillbilly'. Definitely not a 'political' book from my recollection, and is an interesting story even if you look at Vance in 2024 and don't like the man.

    • +8

I read it too, with the same feelings.
He didn’t strike me as extreme or ill considered, just a guy who had a difficult up bringing who was smart. That his conclusions for addressing problems were about more law enforcement, less welfare etc. made him seem a pretty moderate republican.
I’m surprised at the things he has said in the last few years, and put it down to the closed “bubble” of media and politics that distorts the way people view the world until they can’t be sensible anymore (I think this happens on all political sides).

  • +15

Lol this guy speaks the truth calling out Trump as 'America's Hitler' etc - then flipflops on that to be running mate.

If that doesn't tell you all you need to know about his personal integrity I dunno what does. American politics is in a very, very sad state.

    • +3

      Unless it was a compliment?

    • +4

Lol this guy speaks the truth calling out Trump as 'America's Hitler' etc - then flipflops on that to be running mate.

Because no one is allowed to change their mind or be wrong 🤷‍♂️

He changed his mind after Trump was president because he saw that he did a good job.

  • +3

You could not be a more complete fraud than J.D.

  • +4

I can't speak to him as a politician, but this is an amazing book.

Absolutely worth reading, no matter your political leanings

  • +1

Not sure how it's a "memoir" given none of this stuff happened to him, only to his extended family.

  • The son Donald never had

Does anyone think JD Vance looks like Bruce Lehrmann?

      • Lol "election day"? As in the election for the USA? Why?

        • -1

          See who's salty

          • @belongsinforums: Well considering the current political landscape over there I'd say you're very game, however regardless if Trump/Vance win or not, I'm not entirely bothered. I'm just here to see the salt. I live in the Great Southern Land 🇦🇺

            • @m0usju1c3: considering your other comments, i think youre the one who cares the most

              • @belongsinforums: Cares the most out of you and I? Buddy you first brought up the US election out of nowhere, and I apparently care the most??

  • It's interesting if you want to psychoanalyze the rise of Trump voters in the US. Useless if you buy it because you're a sycophant.

Where is the bargain in this? Seems normal or close to price? Ozrrp?

  • +1

Wouldn't take it if you paid me to take it off you. Will be full of lies, just like the rest of the cult members books.
Facts and the truth aren't required in MAGA world. In fact they're frowned upon. See Fox. $787.5 Million and counting……….

  • Anyone seen this unbelievably good lighting up of Mr Vance - get this family a recording contract, is genius stuff!
