Where can we add our referrer code?

    • Same here. Couldn’t find any!

    • +10

You need to wait for the mods to re-enable the ING referral system. I already submitted a report to ask the mods to do this.

Once the mods have re-enabled the ING referral system here, you only need to tick a box to allow people to PM you for your referral code. The main reason for this system is that it is actually against the terms and conditions of ING referral campaigns to share them on OzBargain. If you look at the referral terms and conditions, section (a) (Reward Eligibility Criteria) includes the following:

We will refuse to pay the cash reward in respect of any or all referrals made in relation to this offer if, in our reasonable opinion, you have used this offer in a manner that is not satisfactory to us or otherwise not in line with the intent of the offer. This includes conduct on your part which, in our reasonable opinion, undermines the fair and intended operation of the offer, such as by (a) sharing your promotional code on the 'OzBargain' website or other similar code sharing website or on public forum, (b) advertising or marketing your referral code, or (c) altering the offer in any way, including by offering further incentives to anyone for participation in the offer.

If the moderators allowed the usual system of giving out your referral code or referral link to anyone who clicked on the random referral button, someone from ING could go through the referral system, retrieve referral codes and quietly have them blacklisted. With a private messaging system, it would be easier for you to claim that you never shared your code on OzBargain.

I'm with these guys but I have to say that I am rapidly running out of patience with their 'robust' monthly requirements to get the bonus interest.
There are better options out there.

    • +11

It hasn't been worth using ING since they got rid of the international ATM cashback.

Overall their company subscribes to enshittification

These refer your friend deals are just to get people into the service while they take more and more.

      • +6

Agreed, I've been with them since about 2001 and I'm on the verge of cancelling them. Their hoops are insufferable for little benefit.

        • +2

Can you explain why they're insufferable?

I am about to sign up, somebody told me:

          1. Deposit at least $1,000 from an external source to any personal ING account in their name (excluding Living Super and Orange One).

Me: So this means any accounts. If you have the Maximiser account, and an Everyday account. A minimum of $1,000 should be easy to do.

          1. Make 5 or more settled (not pending) eligible ING card purchases

Me: Again, 5 purchases should not be too difficult? This can be ING card through Apple Pay or Google Wallet or just tap and pay.

          1. Grow their nominated Savings Maximiser balance (excluding interest earned for the current month).
When the criteria is met in a calendar month, the benefits and additional variable rate will apply in the next calendar month. Available on one account for balances up to $100,000.

Me: Unless I spent more than my whole month's pay. This shouldn't be a problem?

          • +4

@ahappysloth: I already have other bank accounts that have less hoops and are better. For example HSBC, I just have to put my salary in there and then I get 2% off paywave < $100 - so I don't want to make 5 transactions with my ING card. Also can store USD in HSBC.

The only thing useful to me for ING would be to direct debit for my electricity and water to save 1%. I don't want to store money in a 0% interest bearing account though.

ING also has an arbitrary $1000 daily 'instant' transfer limit.

          • +1

@ahappysloth: Grow their nominated Savings Maximiser balance (excluding interest earned for the current month).

Not sure about you but I have annual bills like family insurance/ car insurance/ car rego ( yes i choose to pay yearly from my savings to save some money) which cost like 2-3k on top of my usual monthly spending. That is an issue. Other months are fine.

            • +2

@ltvo3: Oh I forgot about the "Grow their nominated Savings Maximiser balance". That's a god awful requirement. I have 1c in there and don't plan on growing it any more, much better uses for my money… although maybe I could just transfer in 1c every month.

          • +2

@ahappysloth: ING used to be a traveller's solution. Refunded overseas ATM withdrawals, etc, but now the only standout benefits seems to be the 5.5% savings rate.

      • Yep. The international ATM change sucked.

      • Damn I used them for that, is there any other bank that payback those high overseas ATM fees?

        • +1

          No there isn't.

        • +1

There are some international places/banks that don't have ATM fees.

When I went to Japan last year, I found there was no fee for using my Up Bank debit card in 7-bank ATMs. I was charged exactly what the MasterCard exchange rate was on the day of each withdrawal.

      • Does Ubank have the international ATM cashback?

      • +1

I don't know if I'm missing something, but when I went to Japan last month, we had the ATM fee refunded at 7-11s and Family Marts. Is it something that ING are strictly enforcing?

    • +3

As you approach $100k they start hassling you endlessly with their "Know your customer" dept. Doesn't matter what you provide, the next month they want more info and they keep threatening to freeze the account. I've provided the same things over and over. Feels like they are trying to chase me away. Rabobank is looking good now…

      • +1

Can you please elaborate on this? I have that amount in savings but never received anything from them. But I guess they are coming….

        • +1

Not much more to add. They started calling and leaving msgs saying my account would be restricted unless I provided them with details. They didn't say in the msgs what the details were. I thought it was a scam at first, as it all sounded very scammy, and their English in the msgs is a little off. I emailed within the ING app trying to find out what was going on and if it was a scam. There was a lot of unprofessional back and forth of them not really knowing what's going on either between various departments. I kept providing what they requested, everything seemed fine until the next month I get another msg and so on. All with threats to freeze my accounts.
Just the other day I had a msg saying your name has been updated on your account, if this wasn't you, contact ING immediately. It wasn't me, so I contacted them, turns out the KYC department did it on their own accord… whole place is a sh*t show. After I inquired regarding this, I'm suddenly hit with a "You need to provide us with further details or your account will be frozen" msg again just the other day. It's been on going for months like this. I'm going to close the account and try with Rabobank. By the way, I've been with ING for over 10 years I think…

          • @subywagon: Wow that’s absolutely disgusting and horrendous to hear. I am looking at UBank and robobank might make a switch if they are going to do the same thing to me.

      • +4

I didn't even have to have that amount! When I followed them up yesterday for my latest missing referrals money, they told me there was yet another stop on my account re KYC. Which wasn't mentioned anywhere on my account, emails etc. Such a joke

      • +1

Yep we stopped using them after they threatened to freeze our accounts and actually ended up freezing my partner's. Took so long to unfreeze it and zero customer service, was a horrible experience and put us right off them.

  • Got the same offer! Where can we provide our referral codes

  • Surprised when I seen the email that’s it’s $125. Too bad everyone here has already joined ING..

    • Yes, me too. $125 for both referrer and referree, highest ever.

      • Same $125 here too

    • Does the deposit can be a trasfter from my another account ?
After how long once the terms are completed we will get the bonus ? Ta

  • Got the code too, waiting for mod to enable the system so we can put in

Weird I have got $100 offer.

  • +1

Is there a time limit after joining and quitting that we can re-join?
Think I had ING about 5 years ago

  • I signed up last year when they had the $100 bonus and closed my account after. Can I sign up again under a new referer?

    • +2

      No.

The referral terms and conditions includes the following:

The offer does not apply where your friend has opened an Orange Everyday account:

      • at any point since 1 July 2014 (even if the account has now been closed); or
      • as part of an application for an Orange Advantage Home Loan.
      • I have to wait 8 years. Reminder set.

        • does it say anywhere you can wait for x years to be eligible for the offer again?

          • @thekensai: My guess is 10 years based on the above comment by wookiemonster.

            • @Iluvfreebies: The 1 July 2014 date has been in terms and conditions for all ING referral campaigns since at least 2020, so I see not much point in waiting.

      • Hi, Apple Pay transactions valid or does it has to be card only ?

        • +1

Apple Pay and Google Wallet transactions are fine, because at the end of the day, you are still using your ING card.

          • @WookieMonster: Thanks for responding.. does the 1000$ deposit need to be in atleast for a day ?? How long after the transactions the bonus will be credited ?

            • +1

              @73sam:

does the 1000$ deposit need to be in atleast for a day ??

No. As long as $1000 is deposited, that is all that matters for ING.

How long after the transactions the bonus will be credited ?

I am not actually sure, tbh.

  • +24

Warning - this is an absolute pain in the neck to actually get paid out on, and becomes super frustrating.

Unlike a normal referral bonus plan like Revolut, it's impossible to track progress where ING referral bonuses are up to, and bonus payments are not paid out on time.

I've had friends who I've referred who had to follow up multiple times to get their bonus, and it was only paid as a "goodwill payment", other friends who have had their accounts randomly locked for no adequate reason, and it's taken weeks from them to be unblocked, even after going to a police station to verify their ID. Phone support can take hours…

I was INGs biggest fan going back, but have very quickly moved on to Ubank after way too many conditions for bonus interest, and the referral issues above.

    • +8

I have only ever done 1 referral and it too was paid out as a "good will gesture" after much complaining.

      • +14

Honestly, it's just a shame. ING used to be SO GOOD back in the day…

        • +3

          Totally agree,

        • I am actually doing the opposite, telling the people I referred to join them to close their ING bank accounts and switch to another bank like Up or Macquarie.

    • +7

Also had issues with ING support where they told me it would take 150 business days (about 5 months) to BEGIN a card investigation for a dispute. That's a ridiculous turnaround time, especially if you have had thousands of dollars taken from you. Clearly they're cutting corners with their staffing to maximise profits

      • +3

        What??? That's insane

      • +4

Yep, they've gone to the dark side….

    • +2

For what it’s worth, signed a friend up for the $75 referral a couple months ago and had no issues getting this credited automatically once we both met the criteria

      • +3

Not saying it's never worked, but when you refer 6 people, and there is no way to keep track of what's going on, and then three of those people get a bonus, and you don't, it starts to gets annoying. Or vice versa…

    • +2

Yeah even creating an account and opening it is a pain, I think they have these incentives because they don't understand why new account creation is so low and assume they just need more incentives, but the process of creating an account is awful and a genuine challenge that defeated me. They want you to call them for ID verification but you have to wait on hold for an hour to do so. Happened to a friend as well, we both gave up.

  • +6

Switched to Ubank after years of being frustrated on their 1k daily payid limit.

    • Send in a complaint to ING. I did this as well. If more people do it they might finally change this.
      https://www.ing.com.au/contact-us/complaints-disputes.html

      • You can check their Twitter account. Hundreds of complaints and requests going back at least 5 years on this issue. They gave the excuse they aren’t licensed to allow more. If it hasn’t happened already then I doubt it will happen now.

  • Have received ING's email for the new $125 Campaign.
Refer Code is the same, but amount increased from $100 from June.
But most people should already be existing ING customers by now.

    • How long after the transactions the bonus will be credited ?

  • Got the email, seems legit

  • +7

I did a referral with them previously with a family member. Never got paid the referral amount until I chased them about it.

Heck if my family member never told me they've already signed up I would not have noticed and they would of gotten away with it. Really hate companies that are sneaky like this.

    • +4

      Yupppp 100% this

  • +5

Last referral wasn't paid out for me or referee, too hard to chase them up .

  • +6

From the negative comments above, doesn't seem that the juice is worth the squeeze.

  • +4

Also keep in mind they don’t have basic functionality like push notification from app when you have received incoming funds

    • +1

Another reason why we moved on…

  • +6

ING were good when the Barefoot Investor was giving them the publicity. Now he says he no longer uses them, they've turned to s**t. Not that he was keeping them in check exactly.

    • +2

Barefoot investor was probably part of the reason they've gone bad, everything goes bad once the mainstream catches on.

    • what bank do does he recommend now , personally use ING for Australia post deposit , Macq for the gift card + 4.75% interest, HSBC for 1% cash back when shopping with out gift cards

  • +4

ING used to be a great bank, now they are painful to deal with.

    • My account had a $0 balance and they inactivated it without telling me. I transferred money into the account, which I assumed was working as normal, and then I couldn't transfer it out without calling them.

  • Got the code , waiting for the mods to enable sharing referral code and rest I'll think later :)

  • +4

Good luck chasing them for the bonus; they don’t pay it automatically.

    • They did for me.

    • Imagine they do most of the time, I had no issues.

  • -2

    I don't mind ING.

    1NG offers 2afe and tr5stworthy banking services.

    What you think?

    • They also like to randomly debank people

      • I recently moved my money to Ubank and some extra to AMP.
Didn't want to mess around with multiple Maximiser accounts.

  • +4

Worth noting that to earn for you both to earn the bonus, the referred person has to open a new Orange Everyday account then receive the card and deposit $1000 and make 5 settled Orange Everyday purchases in the same calendar month and within the same quarter as they opened the Orange Everyday account.

Since it takes 5-10 business days to get the card, and 2 business days to settle Visa purchases (EFTPOS settles straight away), don't open one in mid September and think you will get the bonus.

ING sometimes sends out the bonus referral emails when it would be impossible to receive the bonus.

    • My partner has opened an account today but still waiting for the physical card to arrive. Does it mean she will not receive any bonus?

      • I think she will be ok as long as she does 5 settled OE purchases in August or September (don't do some of the 5 in August and the rest in September).

        • So the account can be opened in late July or August, as long as the 5+ transactions and $1000 transfer occurs in the same month, for example, open today and do it in September after receiving the card?

          Thank you.

    • Hi, I opened my account on 9th sep and deposited 1000 from my ANZ, moved the money out on same day. Did 5 transactions between 13 sep and 22 sep (mix of apple pay and with debit card).. Am I eligible for bonus ?

  • where do you get a referral code?

    • +1

Top of the page where it says "REFERRAL LINKS".
You have to wait for the person it randomly selects to reply because it is a private message based setup to stop ING from weaselING out of the referral.

Note that most Ozbargain referrals aren't private message based because they don't explicitly disallow Ozbargain referrals like ING does

  • +1

Worst bank on the planet… when others were giving over 5% they were ripping off their existing customers by only offering them 0.1%! I was with them since 2006 and changed over to ubank.

  • Mine is still only $100, I wonder how they decide

  • Mine is $125 bonus, didn't get any referrals from previous rounds so could be why I've gotten it

    • Same here too.

  • +2

Got the offer for $100 last month, now increased to $125. But had a shocking experience when I referred a friend. He did all the id checks, account opened and even deposited $1000. Next day, his account was closed and he could no longer access the account. He rang me and was worried as hell. Tried to ring ING customer service but due to account privacy had very limited info to share. Did a conference call to help sort out the issue and was finally told that there was a backend technical issue that caused his account closure but that his funds were safe. Asked to re-open another account and that his fund would be tranferred there. Apparently a rare and isolated incident. WFH. Should not happen with a "financial institute" / (not really a bank is it?!). Anyway, now having 2nd thought about referring anyone. But bad bad experience, and was apologetic to my friend.. I never got my referral bonus, and I doubt if he got his as well. Was it another ploy to avoid these referral payouts ??

    • +1

I reckon ING do whatever they can to not pay out.

  • +2

AVOID at all costs. A few of us were tempted by this bank some time back and they have been nothing but trouble. They refused to pay the original bonus welcome payment, the "participation" on this savings is difficult to achieve and glitches, as are the promised benefits across all products.

They lock accounts, seemingly at random once over setting up a Linkt account 12 months ago, and also recently when an agent misheard one of the "security" questions on a recent phone call and then locked all my accounts down straight away, resulting in 40+ minutes of my time to have them unlocked.

Current with the ACFA while awaiting discharge of the investment loan we mistakenly took with them.

No wonder they are advertising so heavily at the moment. BUYER BEWARE
