Doesn't beep, sends it back for a refund

      • +6

The light marked dud flashed instead of the one marked stud so it is not faulty

      • +4

Who are we sending back for the refund?

    • Does it read "51MP"?

    • +2

      Only 3/4-inch depth?

      • Your pointing at the wrong spot, move it down a little.

4.2 is hardly good. But could be worse.

If you want a proper and reliable one, go Franklin. Obviously different price point. Nothing beats a good finder that reduces likelihood of expensive mistakes.

    • +5

4.2 stars / 5 isnt good, isnt it?

      • +1

Statistically it’s not a good product. 8% of reviews are one star. That’s nearly 10%. That is not a good stat considering the cost of the mistake

        • +1

          10% is nearly 12% it's getting worse.

    • +18

Expensive mistake? Nah, use the proven tradie method: rapid fire nails until one sticks then smear some no more gaps over the dud nails with your empty maccas chip box. Stud found, and you've also reinforced your load bearing gyprock a bit while you're at it.

With all those nails in the wall, good luck trying to get your gyprock through airport security next time you want to take it on an overseas holiday.

Cheap stud finder ey? We have a site full of them here.

  • Time to retire my Bunnings GMC one. Does anyone know what type of batteries these take?

    • +2

      according to reviews 9V one

      • and 9v is enough of a reason not to get one unless you use it every week. no rechargaeable battery and you end up buying a new battery almost every time you use it if you are a home DIY user

  • +9

Fellas why buy this when you can just take a peek at your bathroom mirror?

    • +1

      Just tried that, it works

    • +1

Cabinet maker gets to the work site, pulls out a mirror from his tool belt and puts it up against the wall and starts beeping at himself.

    • +1

      Can confirm

      Source: being a stud

    • Every time I do that, it cracks. Even puddles crack. :-/

Fellas why buy this when you can just take a peek at your bathroom mirror?

Well, that's all well and good for all you non-vampire people.

I've just ordered one, along with some non-garlic bread pizzas.

A simple magnetic finder is much better, IMO. Reliable, no batteries, hard to break.

    • +7

If your magnet finds wood studs in your house, then you might have some issues.

      • +3

It finds the nails in the studs.

        • +1

Unless your builder was scarily regular. Helping a friend with their ceiling last week and the nails were in a grid pattern. The spacing of the nails along the joists was the same as the spacing between the joists, within about 5mm. Not sure if he was quick, but he was certainly methodical.

  • Tarts have no problems honing in and finding my stud super quick, no guesswork,

Do you recommend fruit, chocolate, custard or savory tarts best?

Also what cleaner do you recommend to remove the wall stains?

    Um, am I missing something?

  • +2

Why does it keep beeping when i turn it on?

    • +2

      Must be faulty

Or too much iron in your diet,

    thanks op

never put a nail in my wall and i am ITCHING to try

  • Just use metal detector app in your phone.

No from me. Knowing my luck it will send me to @jv home, where i will have to drink VB, and watch Collingwood reruns with jv. ;)

I don't think bioelectrical impedance is one of the features on this one.

        • +1

          undocumented feature perhaps?

    Keeps following me
Reviewed in the United States on 3 July 2024
This stud finder works almost too well as it keeps following me around the house no matter where I go. Finally had to remove the battery so I could get some sleep.

  • Bought a Zircon one many years back in the Master's days which also has AC detection alert. Can't say I'd ever go back to just having a "normal" detector that doesn't have that feature.

  • +1

Never bought any stud finder. Done multiple renovations, a reliable stud finder I've ever used is my knuckles and ears. Super easy to distinguish hollow drywall sound from the sound of a solid stud wall. Confirm by drilling a smallest pilot hole. Never missed. Always a delight to see timber powder on the drill bit.

Any comments about the stud finder performance itself? Hopeless flops & their dry stud finder joke…

  • My wife's stud finder was free.

    • +1

Be careful. There me be more studs.

  • how good is this compared to the ones on Ali Express ~$15.

  • Can anybody recommend an accurate one?
