i own the touch impress which has the semi auto tamper that this model has AND also the auto frother that the touch models have

breville basically has one of each permutation depending on waht you want. i will always reccomend full manual for cost saving cause they all make the same coffee at the end of the day

but i dont think this model has the turbo jet which is the killer feature that beats the oracle and dual boiler models that are $1500 more

for that you need to go pro

the semi auto tamper models > godsend if you want to turn off your brain regarding tamping and dosing. and dials in new beans you get from ozbargain

the auto frother models is a nice to have as you can just set it and walk away, it will automatically stop with perfect results every time

the touch screen models they use are laggy as shit. but what can u do

so get this one if you struggle with tamping but fine with milk side of things

get the touch impress if you want auto milk but manual tamp

get the pro if you want thermojet but everything manual

or get the $1799 touch impress express or watever its called for all 3

dont bother with the new oracle touch impress which does dosing and tamping fully automatic unless u have money to burn as its diminishing returns

        no worries

spent way too long researching and tossing up whether i need the features or wanted to spend the extra 1k lol

  • Why NSW only? I thought AA use their own delivery mob

    • Actually I think it is Sydney only.

I assume they have surplus stock at the Sydney warehouse? I know there have been deals before that only ship to certain locations (despite being able to buy the same product on their website and have it delivered).

Honestly wouldn't bother with any Breville product with a thermoblock heating element. Their ThermoJet lineup is just so much better for not much more. Also note that some older models or stock of thermoblock machines don't have their OPV set to 9 bars of pressure from the factory. So they brew anywhere between 12-14 bars which causes channeling and undesired acidic and bitter notes in your coffee. Just my 2 cents as someone who came from a Breville thermoblock.

100% agree on the thermojet, Total game changer thats worth upgrading for. Breville acquired baratza as well so the new barista express variants use baratza burs too. i have no clue what it means in material terms, just that my layman eyes noticed a more consistent finer grind over my OG barista express.

Thermojet is a proprietary marketing name like "apple retina display" as the tech has existed for a while called "ferro system"
Lance hendrick explains it well here in first 2mins

Seems manufacturers transitioning away from wasteful boiler systems

Did the newer breville machines have the pressure fixed? theyre too new to find any second hand info

      • I'm not sure which models have the adjusted 9 bar OPV set from the factory, all I know is that Breville started doing it after releasing their ThermoJet machines. But from what I heard, someone did buy a Breville Barista Express recently with the OPV adjusted at 9 bars from the factory. I'm not sure if the Infuser and the models below that have their OPV pre-set. But the thing is that you never know if you're buying new stock especially when you're buying online.

I only stumbled upon this after using my Breville for 6 months, the forum was from Home Barista. Someone managed to measure each notch and found it was in increments of 2. They also found that brewing at these pressures means you have to grind unnecessarily finer which sounds really counter-intuitive (not sure of the exact reason).

        • at the end of the day you dial in based on each machine and bean, regardless of pressure, so long as its consistent (in the event that u dont know what the real pressure is)
