  • will i be able to differentiate 5G and 2.4G via setting, or is the band automatically selected by the device?

    • Yes you can

  • These are terrible dont recommend this brand at all, dont believe the amazon reviews

    • Why so may I ask?

      • Yeah read another ozb said the same. Get the tplink mesh

    • +1

Why mate ? I hava Tenda nova from last 4 years and no complaints

    • I've been using the older (MW3?) units for years and they have been rock solid. Any reason you think these are terrible?

      • I got mw3 as well.

Have you found a way to force it channel to use 5g instead of 2.4g?

  • Keep in mind these are the basic Wifi 6 units AX1500, a better spec wifi 5 (like AC1900) will actually outperform these in every measurable way.

    • +2

AC1900 will have worse security though.

These Tenda models have a lot of non-configurable and non-transparent settings. With WiFi 5 I'm pretty sure the Tenda WiFi 5 units are stuck on the backward-compatibility setting of allowing WPA2 with both AES and TKIP based encryption. To be honest the IT industry totally overblows many security issues like this one and its not really a huge concern, even more so if you can be sure that all your devices are going to connect using AES because then there'll be no TKIP packets transmitted over the air for the hackers / script kiddies to work with. You have to balance this somewhat exaggerated concern against how generally unimportant max WiFi throughput speed actually is for almost all people in almost all use cases though, whereby usually you are either limited by the throughput vs range curve rather than idealistic max throughput and when you're not you usually have enough throughput that it doesn't matter in any case. Because of this, I'd recommend the WiFi 6 units that will reliably be using WPA3 AES only, since that is the only option in the WiFi 6 spec.

      • That's a great point, I was just thinking about speed & range but not security. Good to know

  • They may be solid if you have not tried a different brand, these are not stable, as in they will randomly stop working, where you have to turn them off and on, atleast every few weeks. Their range is not good, compared to other brands, which are probably like $10 or $20 more. Theyre definitely not what amazon makes them out to be. Spend a few dollars more so you dont have to replace them in the near future
