  • Already use the shp9500 for just some casual gaming. Are these worth the upgrade or just stick with the shp9500?

    • +1

For gaming I wouldn't bother mate, for music I notice a difference though. I used to own the 9500 but returned for the X2HR.

I paid $200 a few years ago. Excellent cans for a ridiculous price.

    • +1

Close to ditto, about 175 a couple years back, lots of headphone for the money. The build quality alone is very nice.

      • Agree, bought these for the missus at $124 on the last deal and they're just as good if not better than my set of Sennheiser HD58X I bought for a fair bit more

  • -1

    weren't these 100 3 months ago

    • I don't know, were they?

    • No, $125 in March in the linked deal

      • oh right and many people were recommending another aliexpress headphone that performs better for 100 dollar, i remember now 400se

  • +1

the best value at this price.

  • +2

I bought the V-MODA Boom Pro mic for these to use them for gaming. Recommended combo.

I purchased to not miss out then I started watching reviews. I cancelled my order for these reasons:
Heavy headset pointed out in all the reviews

Sound leak (don’t want my headphones to leak sound as I don’t want others knowing what I’m watching or listening to.

Strong grip on head pointed out in almost all YouTube reviews. I’ve dealt with this type before and it gets really uncomfortable around the ear after 45min.

Lastly but not the main reason: price, highly inflated at 400-500 as pointed out many bought these for $170 1-2 years ago so it’s not that much of a bargain.

ok it is pretty heavy but once on your head it doesn't feel that heavy if you don't swing your head around.

Yes because it is open back. If you want privacy this is definitely not it.

Had to disagree with this one. I feel comfortable on mine but ymmv.

Almost $50 off still not much of a bargain?

Not my comment. Just copy and paste.
The guy watched the reviews and saved me time. Dont see why he would make anything up

        • +4

It just seems like a misinformed comment.

These are great value-for-money open-back headphones.

They leak just like any other open back headphone. They’re open. Complaining that they leak is like complaining that ice cream is cold.

They have moderate-to-strong clamping pressure… a bit more than most open back headphones, but no more than most closed cans. It won’t be an issue for most people.

They're circumaural, so depending on your ears, they may actually be more comfortable than on-ear headphones that have minimal clamping pressure. I can certainly wear them all day without complaints, and the build quality is solid.

Now for the real complaints: the lower midrange is a bit subdued and overly “smooth”, the sound signature is quite v-shaped, the bass is less tight than I’d like, they exhibit a noticeable graininess and aren’t the most revealing headphones (when compared to similarly-built, benchmark open back cans in the $400-600 price range).

Compared to, say, a HD600, they’re not quite up to par, but will be a credible alternative for most people. Slightly less refined, a bit grainier, but much, much easier to drive. From a typical portable source, the X2HR will likely win. And the price is certainly much more attractive.

If you’re after a warm, v-shaped set of open headphones that are generally fun to listen to, you can’t do better at this price point.

A copy/paste of an opinion of another person with no actual experience with the product………… useful

        • im the guy, everything i said was based on YouTube reviews and reddit comments so idk how my experience would have been different when multiple people reviewing it pointed out the same issues, they were 170 most of the time, if you thing 50 dollar saving is a great deal than go for it, its a decent saving if you can live with the short comings mentioned. everyone recommended to get the 400se from aliexpress for the same price as its a superior product

          • @Roe Jogan: What actual shortcomings though?
            - Heavy? The suspension headband takes all the weight off, and they're slightly lighter than the 400se's
            - Sound leak? They're open back, it's what they……. and the 400se…… do
            - Strong grip? Can't say I've ever noticed it, the cushions are padded as hell too. Unless you weight 200kg it's probably not an issue, first three reviews of the 400se on Google mention a high clamp on them
            - "Inflated price"? That's just RRP BS that happens all over the place, if Hifiman wasn't your standard Chi-Fi brand you'd probably get the same thing

If you want shortcomings look at Hifiman's reliability rate when it comes to things like snapped headbands

            • @dav3: i never said the 400se are not open back, i said they are the better buy to this, meaning they are in the same category, look man im not dissing your decision to buy these, you made the right choice for yourself, people feel personally attacked if you mention any better alternative to what they bought and they get very defensive lol, everyone in the previous post and many people on reddit recommended the 400SE over this model as they are better in every category: quality, comfort, sound quality

              • @Roe Jogan: It depends on your source. Amped, the 400SE is likely to deliver a more refined (but possibly less "exciting") result. Unamped, from a typical portable source, the difference in refinement and resolution will become insignificant and the X2HR is going to deliver fuller and more energetic sound.

Basically, the X2HRs are at their best when trying to make the most of an anemic source. This is where I use mine - if I'm away from my desk and its mains-powered DAC/amp, I can just plug them into any old source and get satisfying, lively results. At this price point, there are probably plenty of buyers who don't have much in the way of source gear, and would be doing the same.

For $120, the X2HR is a no-brainer for someone who just wants to plug it into a phone or laptop. There's no need to fret about whether they will perform better amped - they're entirely unfussy about their source, and deliver an energetic result from gear that would make technically "better" headphones sound flat and unengaging.

They're both great, but very different, headphones. For the price, I'd get both!

    • All open backs are going to leak sound. It's just how they are made. I use mine for hours at a time and sometimes I genuinely forget I'm wearing them. Each person is different though I guess. $120 for these is amazing value too in my opinion. Yes the rrp might be inflated but you won't get anything close at that price.

      • Ah well. I bought the HD599 special edition from the earlier deal for less than $45 after stacking promos and a few promo credits. No point spending more

    • +1

not sure what the last comment is about, I've only seen them hover around $170-$240 when I bought mine a few years back.

the other comments are personal preference

    • I have a large head and am sensitive to clamping force. These are very comfortable for me. The headband does a great job of balancing the weight so they never feel heavy.

Open back so yes they leak sound. Wouldn’t wear them on a train. The open back design helps with the soundstage which is excellent.

The only gotcha for me is that the fabric on the pads attract lint. Fixed with one of those sticky rollers that you would use for lint on clothes.

    • I use this very pair of headset for day2day gaming/working from home.

heavy -> yes, but the headband offset the load a lot, only bad if you nod your head or shake very hard.

leak -> just like every open back

grip -> the foam is big and doesn't press on ears, the strong grip doesn't affect pro long usage. At least for me it's alright.

      price -> you wut?

  • Any good for video editing?

    • +9

Prolly better to use a keyboard and mouse

      • And a computer.

  • Man I love these headphones! I have the Sennheiser hd560s for purely music and I use these headphones for gaming and tv watching. They are so good at this price. Don't get me wrong though they are super good for music too. Especially if you want a bit more bass than most open backs put out. If they weren't built like a tank I'd buy another pair incase mine die. But I think they won't.

    • I think you will see this price again. They seems to drop down to this price at least twice a year or more

If they weren't built like a tank I'd buy another pair incase mine die

    • How do you set up your mic for gaming with these?

      • with this. And you are in luck, it is on special now.

        • Thinking of getting a plug in boom mic. Is this a particularly good/well rated model?

          • +1

@gryphondarks: I've had the mic for about 3 months now, and my voice chat has never been clearer. I recommend it, even at full price.

  • -3

IMHO if you're getting this to listen to music or watch a movie, it's great.

However, if you are getting this to pair with a mic for gaming, you're better off with something else. Once you get a good mic, this combo will cost you close to $180, and for that amount of money, you can get something with bluetooth that is lighter and more breathable, which I think is better for gaming. Yes, it may sound worse, but do most gamers really care?

  • +1

Nice. Needed TV headphones. These seem perfect. Bought 2 also with 10% off Amazon Giftcards + $5 cashback offer at Cashrewards so my total came to $106 per headphone. STEAL!!!! I can see used ones a few years old listed for $200 on Facebook!!!! Damn.

  • +1

Awesome price. These are fun and enjoyable headphones, very comfortable, even Z reviews likes 'em: https://youtu.be/YAskyycUqVQ

  • Love these things.

To me, comfiest headphones I've worn. It clamps on pretty well so unless you're Megamind, it should be a comfy fit. I can honestly wear it for hours but maybe I just have the perfect shaped head and ears.

Open-back design is preferred by me too. Everything just sounds more natural and accurate (?). Sound does leak out, and also leaks in. But it stops me getting into trouble when my missus yells out for me and I don't reply. I don't find myself getting all hot, sweaty and bothered in them either versus my XM5s after a decent period.

Obviously no microphone but standalone ones are decently price. $39 mic and boom from Kmart and you're set. I'll be your first Twitch sub.

    And it sounds good.

  • My girlfriend laughed at my when she saw me wearing these but they're great. They are big though. Got them on the last deal for around this price.

  • -1

So they leak sound AND are noise cancelling??

    • They do leak sound and they're not noise cancelling.

  • -1

    Wireless?

    • +1

      These are wired

  • +1

These do not require a headphone amp so makes for a perfect portable 'HiFi' solution when at home for both PC, TV, etc. If you are mulling over this or the Sennheiser HD599 which is on discount also around the same price BUT the Sennheiser does require a low-moderate powered headphone amp to sound it's best.
