Blurb from Amazon:

【Quality Material】The meat press is made of high quality food grade cast iron, which is corrosion resistant and durable for long term use. Using a cast iron meat press allows the heat to be distributed more evenly over the whole piece of meat, reducing a lot of cooking time and helping to remove excess fat and grease from the meat so you and your family can enjoy healthier food.
【Comfortable Handle】This cast iron meat press has an ergonomically designed wooden handle that is heat resistant, smooth and comfortable to use, reducing hand fatigue while ensuring a safe and comfortable grip. The wooden handle is securely mounted with two screws and is firmly attached to the cast iron base so that it will not fall off or come loose.
【Easy to use】You can pre-heat the meat press and place it on burgers, bacon, ham, grilled sandwiches, hamburgers, panini, ribs, steaks and tacos to press out excess grease or liquid for a healthier diet, help cook meat more evenly and speed up cooking time.
【Widely used】The cast iron burger press is not only great for use with kitchen pots, pans and grills, but also for making burgers, sandwiches, bacon, cheese and paninis. It not only reduces cooking time but also adds flavour to food. Not only is it a good choice for professional kitchens and home kitchens, it is also suitable for stovetop grills and outdoor barbecues.
【Quality Service】If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us, we will provide you with solutions as soon as possible

For best results, smash the patty right after placing the ball of meat on the grill/pan

Real Ozbargainers just use the bottom of a small pot..

    • +3

I just use the spatula that I’m going to flip the burger with.

      • +2

I do that but use a small parchment/baking paper square on top, to avoid sticking to the spatula (I think)

        • I just hand smash using baking paper prior to hitting the grill

I just use the bottom of my beer mug

          I use my own bottom.

          • @zonra: Quite the interesting imprint you'll have on your burger

          • @zonra: Your BBQ Sauce is a bit….tangy.

These are $5 on temu i think

    • +15

I go to temu via Google and it trys to make me download the app, I refuse, so it makes me spin a wheel twice for a discount that doesn't exist, I look for my item and it looks like it's $5, I click on the item and the $5 one is only 5cm long, the actual one I need it tree times the price and then I go to checkout and it tells me I have to spend $50. By this time you've thrown your phone through the wall.

tl:dr Temu is a waste of time

      • Here you go mate - ali express for $2 ($3 shipping orspend $15 for free shipping). The ali express one is actually about 18cm in diameter. The amazon one is about 15cm.

Can't post a link here but if you look up burger smash cast iron on ali express. Click on free shipping. Order them cheapest to most expensive and you will see it.

get an all stainless steel one - the wood handle will crack and rot off in a matter of months

    • +1

You're doing something wrong if the wooden things in your house are cracking and rotting within a matter of months.

      • most household woodwork is fine for years to come….aliexpress style wooden handles subject to extreme heat and repeated dishwashing? not so much….

….or do you just have complete faith in the Smarban brand after years of loyal experience?

        • +3

          No wood is dishwasher safe.
A lot aluminum products also not.
People just need to learn that not everything should be thrown in the dishwasher and washing by hand won't kill them.

    • +1

i have a stainless one, just put in dishwasher , think was only about $15 on amazon.

      • +1

How heavy is it though? These are useful because cast iron is really heavy and keeps the burgers flat while cooking.

There is now a coupon you can press on the listing so you can get it for $22.09 again.

        • I have updated it live again now there is a voucher to bring it back down to $22.09! Thanks

        • probably don’t want to leave burger press on the burger, it will take away heat, for smash burgers it’s press down for about 10 seconds, and then do the next burger … usually heavy presses are for bacon to keep it flat and for that you want rectangular press with ridges, bacon is in strips so round press is too short and ridges help get rid of steam so fries doesnt stew …..

  • i still remember people using a margarine tub lid back when i was a kid.

    simpler times.

  • I've never seen the point of these unless you're cooking burgers all day, every day in a takeaway shop.

Even then, I've noticed a lot of burger joints just use the egg flip/spatula, less washing up.

    • big spatula and scrapper, use scrapper to press down on spatula for extra pressure if doing smash burgers.
