How to Be Invisible for Racist/Bully Teens in Shopping Malls?

Hi All,

I am an Indian with average build and 5ft 7in height. I have been in Australia since 2015. Never faced racist or bully behaviour for almost 8 years.

Me and my partner walk in the mall close by in the evening and so some shopping and go home. In last 1 year i have faced some bully behaviour from teens. Flipping off, shouting loud from behind, one even pulled down his pants showing his bum 🤷

I have already stopped having eye contact with anyone i think they are troublesome. Doesn’t feel nice.

What can I do?
Can i film them behaving this way and raise a complaint? Is it legal ?

Edit 1:
Thank you for your response. I think it is a good thing this happened, i have started concentrating on my physical fitness. I have decided not to give in and change my timings(just not those really late hours), I will still go to the same shopping centre, I will follow some of your advice. I will join MMA to build some confidence.

I will try not get affected by their comments and if they try to go physical, f**k it, I will at least land a couple back.

To OP. Responding to them, or giving them attention is giving into to them. You just need to look ahead and away from them, and pretend they do not exist, and that's not to put your guard down, but remember to be aware still, and just focus and walk away. Obviously there are going to be full on (profanity) kids who would throw things at you, that's when you head to security of the centre and report them.

I was getting my haircut by someone of African American descent and a kid ~12 walked past the door and yelled in "Hello Monkey". This was almost 3 months ago and I still feel angry just thinking about it.

    One new migrant per minute.

Migration levels rose by more than a third as the sitting government decided that there were too many houses, vacant lots and needed more renters looking for a place to live.

It was really good for the GDP and also for everyone, as house prices needed a boost and Australian cities had minimal congestion.

The aim is to increase more intake, and go for the 30 million mark.

    • What was the situation when you migrated?

Have you tried this? They seem to be pretty effective.

Yes I had this once, but school confiscated mine 😂

  • Remember the good ol days if you said something racist to the Kambo Klown gang, they would just simply kill yoi? Life was so much simpler

ignore them, walk away. Don't let it get to you. Walk to a security guard. You might be tempted to respond but that's going down to their level. They are also looking for a target/trying to provoke. Many of them can assault you and get away with it (depending on age or circumstances) or find your car etc. 100% not worth it,

  • Be a man. Ignore them and get on with life. Ffs

  • Just give Ray (Mr Inbetween) a call

  • There is only one thing you can do, next time you see them pull down your underpants and repeatedly yell "WHAT?? WHAT???". It will assert dominance.

Hard men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times. We are at the last cycle.

This bs about gentle parenting (no I am not asking to physically abuse your kids, but what about teaching consequences?), no consequence/lax youth crime law and parents not taking responsibility (too busy with cost of living/dysfunctional family as half would be from broken family) are deadly combo. In before, you are saying you came from a broken family and you are ok comment, mate I am not talking about you. Statistics don't lie. Just because you are not affected, doesn't not the problem doesn't exist. Oh yeh, probably will get negged by the local Social Justice Warriors here. Hope you can see it before I go deep red!

Sadly nothing you can do about it. We are on the decline as a society.

They said the same thing when rock emerged in the 50's. "Society was declining" They said the same thing when punks emerged in the 70's-80's look at all the nihilistic films like MadMax, Escape from New York etc.
The 50's rockers turned into the Boomers, the Punks turned into Generation X. I don't think society will fall to bits, just change and evolve differently.

Screaming back at them and calling them cnuts will usually shock them, as they only pick on people they believe are weaker than them.

It works wonders for me (and I suppose being a bigger dude helps).

    • I'm a 5'2 dude so almost always smaller than them but it still works. Most of them aren't up for actual confrontation.

  • Groups of teens are one of the scariest things you can encounter out there.

You have my commiserations for being the target that day.
