  • can this be a gift card purchase?

    • Don’t think you can purchase gift cards online so likely not.

      • Interestingly, CR still states "Cashback is eligible on purchases of gift cards," which is very uncommon to see.

And I wonder if the Woolworths gift card page that links from the main site gets the 15%?

        • Notice there's no cashback rate for gift cards.

Cashback is available on groceries purchased from Woolworths Online Grocery.

          Cashback rates
New Woolworths Online Grocery Customer 15%
Existing Woolworths Online Grocery Customer 0.4%
          Everyday Market Customer 0.3%

          • @Junk Sifter: Good point, I just did a grocery shop & got the 15% tracked anyway with the $15 pick up bonus as well, cheers OP!!

  • +5

The Woolworths site is also offering a $15 discount for a customer's first time click and collect order over $100. It automatically applies, so it shouldn't interfere with cashback eligibility.

I signed up, purchased 2 x 30 can Tooheys New for $118, got the $15 discount at the checkout (to $103). Then the 15% tracked from cash rewards, and I should be getting the $20 cashrewards first time cashback too.

So it's 60 tins for under $70 when it's all said and done.

    • Very nice. It's a shame beer is so expensive these days.

      • With First Choice stopping their 25-30% cashbacks on their full range, I didn't think I'd be able to get a deal like this again.

    • Thanks for confirming this tracked for you! I was wondering if it would affect eligibility. Good to hear

  • damn. placed my first woolworths online order for $250 last night. c'est la vie!

    • Ring up and cancel it

      • Might not make you eligible

        • I'm going with this. I'm sure there's a record in woolies that shows I placed an order already, even it's it cancelled.

  • Is paying by gift card excluded? Doesn’t state anything in $20 deal exclusion for gift card, but states cashback ineligible for payments made with giftcards on the site.

    • Cashback is ineligible on the following:

Purchases made via the Woolworths app

Packaging (eg. paper bags for groceries).

      Tobacco.

Use of gift cards for full or partial payment.

      • +1

FYI full list of exclusions, hoping that the 'default' $15 new customer discount doesn't make the cashback ineligible, wouldn't that be a laugh.

Cashback is ineligible on the following:

        • Purchases made via the Woolworths app

        • Packaging (eg. paper bags for groceries).

        • Tobacco.

        • Use of gift cards for full or partial payment.

        • Purchases using coupon codes not listed on Cashrewards.

        • Items that are cancelled, returned, exchanged or refunded.

        • GST, other taxes and delivery fees.

        • Fraudulent transactions.

        • Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the Merchant site, including but not limited to employee discounts, student discounts and price-matching.

        • Yeah that’s exactly what I was worried about as well. Especially since it’s not mentioned at all on CR.

I also have another concern - items being OOS and then dropping the minimum spend below the requirement?

Is that a concern? Or do they honour it irrespective, surely they should right?

          • +1

@silentwthestars: Not sure about Woolworths, but I've had BigW and Target decline cashbacks from CR because of 1 or 2 items OOS.

The Coles Group in Australia reported an annual profit after tax of around 1.1 billion Australian dollars in the 2023 financial year Link

The Woolworths Group in Australia recognized a total net profit after tax (NPAT) of 1.72 billion Australian dollars in the 2023 financial year. Link

Coles and Woolies have become my last resort for shopping. For vegetables, I've started going to local veggie shops and then to Aldi for groceries. Coles and Woolies have significantly increased their prices during and after Covid. It's time for Aussies to reconsider supporting these major businesses, especially when inflation is at an all-time high and job availability is at an all-time low. Supporting smaller, local businesses can help foster community resilience and provide more affordable options. These supermarket giants have not only jacked up their prices but also have a history of squeezing suppliers, often paying them less while charging customers more. They have been accused of engaging in anti-competitive practices, which stifles the growth of smaller, local businesses.

    • +2

Why does their profitability make you dislike them?

I enjoy Colesworths, at least my locals, more than ALDI. The service is better, and the product range is better (although I can't but a soccer net or a puffy jacket when I'm grabbing milk).

I don't think you compare the profitability of clothes brands before you choose which to buy.

      Why do it here?

      • +4

The difference between caring about the profit margin of random fashion brands and the profit margin of a retailer selling the simplest version of the basic building block of staying alive should be obvious enough

Supermarkets inquiry 2024-25 - ACCC Link

I don't check how much profit luxury brands like Louis Vuitton make because I don't rely on them for my daily necessities. What bothers me is knowing that Coles and Woolworths have significantly increased their prices despite suppliers and farmers not seeing similar increases. Again that's my point of view and if you would rather spend more at Colesworth…

          • -1

@azhar7772: Are you sure that suppliers and farmers have not raised prices in line with their costs?

            • @Wolfenstein98k: Look they would have but not 100% increase on their products over the last 3 years. There will be an increase year on year.

              • -1

@azhar7772: Woolworths has not increased their prices or profits by 100% either. What are you talking about?

            • +1

@Wolfenstein98k: Suppliers and farmers don't set their prices. Colesworth tells them how much they will charge. The supplier either accepts that or sells elsewhere or goes out of business.

              • -1

                @jebdra: Yes they do.

And even so - their prices (receipts if you prefer) have gone up, like everyone's has, on average.

      • +3

They're taking advantage of the duopoly they hold on Australians.

As stated above, everybody needs to eat, nobody needs designer clothing.

      • The service is better

The only difference I find in this regard is that Colesworth pack your bags for you, and Aldi makes you rush and have a mini heartattack. As far as the staff go, they all (Colesworth and Aldi) seem to have a face like a slapped arse at the checkouts, and good luck finding anybody in the aisles in any of them.

I don't think you compare the profitability of clothes brands before you choose which to buy.

If a clothing company were price gouging due to a sudden burst of inclement weather and then maintained those prices afterwards, I would absolutely avoid those retailers. The difference is, there are always other places to get clothes.

    • +1

Isn't their profit margin still under 3% after tax

      • +1

        https://www.colesgroup.com.au/DownloadFile.axd?file=/Report/…

You are right. Coles total sales revenue last year at $40.4b ; Net profit after tax at $1.04b that equates to roughly 2.57 profit margin.

They must be really bad on most of the below - Capex and Opex: (Information sourced from the internet)

        High Operating Expenses:

Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) for retail products.
        Operating and administrative expenses.
        Large Workforce Costs:

High wages and benefits for employees.
        Rent and Leasing Costs:

Expenses related to store and distribution center leases.
        Marketing and Promotional Expenses:

Costs associated with advertising campaigns and promotions.
        Interest and Financing Charges:

Interest payments on debt and financing costs.
        Depreciation and Amortization:

Non-cash expenses related to asset depreciation.
        Non-operating Expenses:

One-time charges, restructuring costs, and legal fees.
        Executive Compensation:

High salaries and bonuses for top executives.

100% appreciate the sentiment of spreading the spending to local businesses, but don't throw Aldi in as a bastian of good. They're a global privately owned German company, who don't publish their corporate results - because they're private.
This is an interesting read: https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/aldi-paid-mo…

Absolutely shop at Aldi because they're cheaper, but not on moral grounds that they're "less evil" that Colesworth. Aldi is absolutely a supermarket giant and a major business… bigger than Coles and Woolworths combined.

      • Look I agree with you. The only reason I go to Aldi is that I don't have any other option. I did read somewhere that Aldi has a better profit margin of 8% as they keep the # of employees to a minimum, smaller stores, not much variety, better % on Opex and so on… At the end of day if I have to select out of the 3 major players - I will go to the cheapest and that happens to be Aldi for now. I have also been to Costco and find some items that I can buy in bulk and save - but its too far for me. Same story with Bunnings isn't it. It was good when they had some competition from Masters but that did not last very long.

I suppose creating a new account with a different email address will work?

    • I did so and it tracked. Hope it confirms successfully though.. who knows. Would like to hear if others did this too

    On a $110.45 order I received

    $18 cashback + $15 woolies discount on orders over $100 + $10 everyday rewards + $20 bonus from cashrewards

$47.45 out of pocket - Happy customer!

    • Hi, I saw the $15 pickup discount for over 100 as well (if that’s what you’re referring to) but I wasn’t sure if it would stack with this. Would you kindly confirm if it all tracked for you when you used that as well?

It automatically applies at checkout anyway, right? So shouldn’t matter?

      • +1

The upsized 15% bonus did track for my order when the $15 discount from WW is automatically applied. However, as others have mentioned below, the bonus $20 cash reward cashback for over $100 is not tracked instantly but probably will be credited to your account later on.

        • Thanks for confirming! Just placed an order

    • +1

Hi, if you order $110.45 with a $15 discount, you pay less than $100? Would that make your cashback invalid as the order has to be >$100?

      • +1

just placed order it tracked at total spend so it's before discount.

  • +1

is $20 bonus from cashrewards applied (tracked)?

    • +1

From my reading of the conditions it'll get credited to your account about a month from now. I made my purchase at 1am today and it's not on there.

  • Is there a way to check if you've ever made a Woolies online purchase? I don't think I have but not certain.

    • +1

Login to your woolworths account and check past orders.

  • Do Market orders count?

    • No

Bought 50 boxes of half price Weetbix
    $110 - 15% off - $20 cashback - $15 pickup discount = $1.17 per box
    1 year supply

    • +1

      How many do you do?

      • Not me , my teenage boys, they got no choice , no sugar for breakfast in this house

        • Always a bit worried buying so many of the same item, they could be OOS

  • +1

Woolies cancelled my order (didnt say why)… i guess Im not qualified anymore.

    • What do you mean they cancelled it? Did they reach out to email you at all?

      • +1

Yea they sent an email saying my order was cancelled. No reason was given. It tracked on cashrewards, but in my woolies account it still says no past order. When I checkout again, I can still use the $15 off $100 for first time direct to boot. But I’m not confident it will track with Cashrewards for the $20 + 15%

      • The same thing Actually just happened to me now with another order

    • Same here, cancelled twice!

    • Mine got auto cancelled too!

      • I tried 5 times using different cards and trying to delete deli and veggie items but still keeps getting auto-cancelled with no reason :(

  • +2

what happens if WW refunds the money for OOS items that brings the actual spend below $100? Cashback still eligible?

    • They always do that dont they?

    • +1

Exactly what I was wondering too… asked this above. Does anyone know?

Things are frequently OOS ime- do they still honour it if drops below min spend?

    • +1

They dont refund you the money.
They might replace an OOS item with something simlar. Or they will issue a store coredit for future purchases.

That means you have met the min spend requirement and eligible for the bonus.

Happened to me couple of times before, never had an issue. The voucher theh give you is a bit annoying though. Verh short expiry and from memory can only be used in-store

      • They refunded me $50 in this case. Not sure whether the CB will be honoured.

  • So has anyone successfully placed/ picked up a tracked order without being canceled by Woolworths? Not sure if its worth trying…

    • Just picked up my tracked order. No issue at all. They did substitute two of my out of stock items with some same price items. I also got extra 6000 points credit to my everyday rewards because of a few boosted offers.

      • Thanks, good to hear it worked for you

  • My order is ready to collect, 30 pack pepsi max was out of stock so they kindly substituted me for the 24 pack!

I wonder if asking for a credit will result in my cashback being denied

    • Instead of receiving a credit voucher WW are refunding me $26
Hopefully I still get the $20 bonus cashback + 15%

  • +1

Any idea if the 10% monthly discount from Everyday Rewards voids the cashback, since it’s a code that needs to be applied.

  • +2

Got the $20 bonus today :)
It's already approved, even though the WW order 15% isn't yet.

    • +1

      same.
