How do you integrate it into your workflow? Is it simple to access the drawings on the device with a laptop?

    • +1

Looking for an answer to this too OP @Ladcake

    • +5

You have to email them back and forth between devices. Doesn't natively use the cloud.

      • +1

        Thank you for confirming!
This is sad to see and one of the main reasons I'm considering Onyx Boox over Kindle

      • Even if my kindle breaks I take it I lose them (i.e no backup on Amazon systems?)

    • +4

you can email the notes or marked up pdfs to yourself, but it sends them as a URL to download.

I'm a lawyer and take notes during court attendances or while on the phone to clients. I also use the device to maintain a daily to do list.

I've had my scribe for about 5 months and use it on a daily basis. If you are required to take notes for work, it's a great investment rather than trying to keep track of countless notebooks.

    • -1

You write faster than you can type, or drawing?

  • +8

Premium pen comes with 32gb and 64gb… better to go for 32 or 64gb instead of buying Premium pen separately

    • +1

Looks like everyone saw your comment! 32gb sold out, 64gb still available but costs quite a bit more than this deal with basic pen?

    • Unfortunately sold out now, do you remember how much the 32gb version was?

      • +1

        I think 32gb was $429

  • +2

Hope the PW will also go on sale for prime day!

    • +1

Their due to do a colour update tbh

    • +1

I'm hoping to pick up a PW on sale too! I don't think the color e-ink is there yet. The screen is super dark without the front light on. Kindle is much more enjoyable with or without the frontlight

      • Paperwhite is great. Im tempted to get the scribe, but I dont have much of a use case

    • i have one laying around if you want it, never touched it… the paperwhite yeah? I'm in Sydney

      • I'm in Melbourne unfortunately

      • I’d be keen!

  • Is it worth to get the premium pen?

    • Yes imo It has a better writing feel, and the multifunction button. Another option is the Staedler Norris ~$50 from OW

  • +1

I feel like this would be nicer to write on but how would it compare over all to an iPad for about the same price, plus a third party pen?

    • Yes I am wondering the same. Any major advantages of the Scribe to using an iPad with Apple Pencil 2?

      • +3

Besides the writing, I feel it’s way worse. Can’t run apps and I assume Amazon being Amazon, you’re stuck with their ecosystem and syncing to their account, which they can delete and wipe whenever they want.

On the other hand, would be nice to integrate random notes and use as an actual ebook reader.

      • +2

e ink screen, therefore less to no glare, no distractions. Think of this as an ebook reader with the added advantage of having notebooks.

      • +1

        Not a fair comparison.

An iPad with a paperlike screen protector and apple pencil 2 is leaps and bounds ahead of this, but is also more than double in price.
The paperlike screen protector is a godsend. Night and day difference to writing/drawing on smooth glass.

For a cheap, thin, light, hand written note taker and reader, the Scribe is great.
But the iPad is just so much more capable, polished, and user friendly… not just in notes and hand writing, but in screen quality and uses.

The iPad is the all in one work horse, but you pay for that. They aren't in the same ballpark or even postcode.

        • +1

My iPad (Series 9) was $400 + $25 for a 3rd party pencil (works perfectly fine) and $15 for paper-like protector I added. $440 total.

This thing is $430 (only $10 cheaper) for the 32Gb with the premium pen. So it's a pretty good comparison and makes the iPad look way better value.

Even compared against the 16Gb base model with the basic pen, I'd rather pay $100 odd for an iPad any day.

I guess you disagree with this guy then…

WARNING!! DON’T BUY a Paperlike Screen Protector for your iPad!!

          • +1

@cerealJay: Their are alternatives mate… it's a big wide internet world. My first was a paperlike and I didn't mind it, but they are expensive.
There's a lot of positives reviews on it too: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=paperlike

But I actually recommend Bellemond. Cheaper, and I prefer the feel more. Plus the screen doesn't mark as easy as the paperlike.

I wonder if you have a preference after using any, or did you just googlefoo a pointless rebuttal real quick?
I got no issues with debate, but at least make a point. Paperlike is the market leader. It's overpriced, but it's what the others compare themselves to.

            • @UFO: I'd never put a screen protector on my iPad Pro because I use it for graphics, astronomy apps etc, where visual clarity is critical and the whole point of having a fancy high density screen.

I own a Kindle Oasis, but I'm considering buying the Scribe. I like taking notes while I do things like follow tutorials or doing focused activity in the field… so I'd use the notebook feature. I've been wanting a general purpose e-ink note-taking device, not sure what else is around in that space.

E-ink displays are more relaxing. I like my notes to be always showing when I place them down. I don't want to wake up my device just to see the notes I wrote a few minutes ago. Screen protector or not, "note taking" or reading more than short amounts on iPads or any kind of bright screen is not for me.

              • @cerealJay: I guess it just depends if you are happy with one device to do those things or multiple.
If you have the money for both, go nuts.

            • @UFO: You can also use a ms surface for that matter

      • +1

I have a friend who has a Scribe and loves it. He was telling me in about March that he hadn't charged it since November, and used it a fair bit in the office to take notes and read books. Compared to an iPad which would need charged every few days?

The writing is clear and works well too.

I'm going to need to buy this and seek forgiveness later by my other half.

    • +1

If you want to force yourself to read and write only and literally nothing else, get this. Otherwise, iPad.

      • You forgot draw. It's pretty good for sketching rough ideas, storyboarding etc.

Oh.. and listen. You can listen to audio books.

So… Read, Write, Draw, Listen. Now you can add "literally nothing else".

    • -1

Probably better off with an iPad and a matte/paper like screen protector

  • bought one with premium pen (paid with Zip pay)

  • Looks nice and a great size but I am kinda in the Kobo system now

  • +2

Its trying to compete with Remarkable 2 but based on reviews, Remarkable has more paper like feel. Personally I am opting for Boox go 10.3. Just waiting for Boox to go on sale…

    • All the other competitors seem to be 2-3 times the price. Going to look into these more now, hard to imagine they're 2-3 better products?

      • +1

Most boox devices are running android so you can run many productivity apps in it too.

I want to grab one just to use onenote.

      • Obviously depends on the use case however amazon scribe is predominantly a kindle with all the limitations that kindle has. The notetaking part on scribe is a bonus. Remarkable 2 is a notetaker first and ebook reader second. Boox sits right in between the two. Its a great ebook reader with drag and drop pdf and ebooks, its notetaking features are not as good as Remarkable 2 but not as limited as scribe.

    • picked up the lenovo smart paper for this price (not currently available) and at the time everything else was much more expensive. I transfer my notes via USB as it runs android can just use file transfer mode. Have been happy with it so far taking notes and reading ebooks with occational web browsing

      • I have the Lenovo Smart Paper too. I'm happy with it so far. However, for reading, I think Kindle will do a better job. Very tempted to buy the kindle at this price too ;)

    • I'm planning to do this too but seems they rarely or never have sales :(
(at least from ozbargain post history)

  • These ereaders have become quite expensive. Gone are the days when you could pick up a kobo\Kindle for $120 at officeworks.

  • +1

Just ordered the 16GB with basic pen. This is a really good price (cheapest I have seen), have had my eye on this for a while for work purposes.

I found this useful in knowing the differences in pen - explained very clearly. And I decided to stick with the basic pen.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElDWf8GX_No

  • Oh damn, 433 grams weight vs my Kobo Libra at 215g.
I guess its not a one handed device.

  • +1

I have both the scribe and the remarkable.

In taking notes/for work the remarkable craps all over the scribe.

The scribe is better as an ereader, but the remarkable's open source means it's far more tinkerable.

    • Good to know. But they seem like two very different price brackets. JB have the Remarkable 2 at $800 (with the pen with the eraser, which is equivalent to the premium pen for Scribe).

  • I'm tempted to go with the Scribe

  • 16gb with Premium Pen $399 back to stock stock now.
    Arriving 5 Aug 2024 – 12 Aug 2024
I ordered one and cancelled the basic pen deal.

  • Remarkable 2 is better in my humble opinion.

  • +1

Op did you get the cover?

  • Giving the 16gb and basic pen a go. Interested to see how it is versus my Paperwhite from 2015!

Got the grey leather case from Amazon but keen to hear people's thoughts on cases.

  • +1

Very disappointed because my order was cancelled after the delivery date was pushed back. Odd that Amazon can't fulfill it's own product.

    • +1

Just came here to vent about the same thing. Extra annoyed because I bought a case at the same time that is now completely useless.

Support said they wouldn't match the price if it comes back in stock or match the Prime Day prices on one of the other models that is in stock (that I would have bought instead if I'd known this would happen), but they did give me a $15 voucher for my sob story. If this would help soothe your disappointment then you could try the same thing.
