No hate, you do you. But have you thought that through?

    • +2

There is a plug in hybrid for the C5X for a leisurely $80k if that's your thing.

    • +9

So, how many EV's do you have ?

      • 0, I dont need one

    • +2

Look at you saving the world. Well thinking you are anyway.

    • +2

Yep, a car at those prices and having to put petrol in every week, doesn't stack up. People are weird.

    • +1

If you only buy EVs, then what was your first car?

    • -8

~50% of US EV owners intend to switch back to ICE vehicles. Many big auto makers are also piling billions into further ICE development as the BEV rhetoric seems to be showing cracks.

      • +14

I've seen that article. The survey doesn't say that.

46 percent of respondents saying that they were very likely to buy an ICE vehicle rather than another electric vehicle.

Most people who are buying new cars are affluent enough to afford two. It's most convenient to own 1 EV and 1 ICE vehicle.

To read that as "survey owners are so dissapointed with their EV they want to replace their EV with an ICE vehicle" is creativity on the author's part and a lack of thinking on the reader.

I understand where you're coming from, but we also have a nearly 2 tonne 2024 Santa Fe running off a 1.6T petrol (and an extra 48kw electric motor, but still…)
Sign of the times… Cars designed to be waste after 200k+ kms

      • +4

Touch grass dude. Cars have been economical write offs after 200kk or about 15-20 years since ever.

        • Be lucky if a lot of cars make it near that without some hefty bills these days.

    • +8

It's a great engine! And Peugeot/Citroen are very lightweight cars. I have this engine in my 308 and it is not lacking in power at all. Good fuel economy too. Gets down as low as 5L/100km on the highway and around town about 7.5-8L/100km.

      • +2

        is it reliable?
        what's it's longevity?

        • Yes it is very reliable, just make sure you use PSA approved low SAPS oil. But like with any small turbo engine I would not expect it to last much past 200,000km without putting a lot of $ into it.

          • +2

@nubzy: 1.6L engine in the C5X is very good and so is the 8 speed Aisin (Toyota) geabox. My 508 has a higher tuned (165kw/300nm) varient of the 1.6 and it's great. Average 8.5L-9L/100km city driving in Brisbane and 5L/100km highway.

The 1.2L 3 Cyl in the C4 is a bit more sketch though. Timing belt is a wet belt and they've had issues degrading quickly for a while. Supposedly changed suppliers and resolved in the last few years but in the UK they've done a recall to get the new belts in and put an 8 year warranty on them.

            • @zonarhd: Don't you think fuel economy is not that great ? My X-Trail 2.5 Lt gives about 10/100 in city .. ..with smaller engine I would have expected better

              • +1

@DaveD: Likewise, my 2.5 tonne SUV averages around 10/100 with a similar engine performance (2.0litre turbo) in the same city.
That doesnt look impressive at all.

              • +1

@DaveD: I'm not too surprised by it. I used to average 7-8L/100km in my old 3 Cyl 1L turbo Polo in city driving around here (live in Taringa and drive to Fortitude Valley and detour home via a stop Yeronga some days). Wifes 2L Kia Seltos does around the same as my Peugeot. I suspect the CVT's in the Nissan and Kia probably help as well as they like to keep the revs down. I briefly tried Eco mode but the car felt extremely unresponsive & delayed when trying to accelerate.

The higher tune probably doesn't help either. I suspect the C5X would get better economy as it's the same engine but down about 20% on power compared to my 508 (133kw/250nm vs 165kw/300nm). Overall though I do love driving my 2021 508. The small steering wheel and low-slung body and seating position really make it feel like a go kart. Sure there's cars in the same segment (Passat, Octavia, Stinger etc) that offer more grunt but I've never felt like it's slow by any means. No issues with sensors and any infotainment glitches were ironed out when I updated it to latest software. Shame that Peogeot/Citroen are overpriced when not on some sort of sale and the dealer network is pretty small.

      • I get high 5s on the highway and high 7s in my ancient, naturally aspirated 2.5l petrol car.

        • +1

You get high on the highway…. Nice

      • -1

And Peugeot/Citroen are very lightweight cars.

        1755 kg?

With apologies to Douglas Adams, this is clearly some new definition of "lightweight" that I haven't previously encountered.

A 1755 kg car, with a 1.2 litre engine? Mmmmm. I think I see why they are having trouble selling it.

        • +1

The C4 Shine has the 1.2L engine and 1247kg kerb weight.
          The C5 X Shine has a 1.6L engine and 1467kg kerb weight.

          • -1

            @twocsies:

The C4 Shine has the 1.2L engine and 1247kg kerb weight.

I'm looking at the link to the Citroen web site provided in the deal. Under dimensions and specifications it says the weight of a C4 is 1755 kgs. You know better than the manufacturer what the weight of their product is?

            • +1

@GordonD: I think you confused with Gross Vehicle Weight

Curb weight is the total weight of a vehicle including standard equipment and required fluids, such as motor oil, transmission oil, coolant, AC refrigerant, and in some cases, a full tank of gas. Some people refer to curb weight as wet weight. Gross vehicle weight (GVW) is curb weight + passengers and cargo

              • -3

@Buy2Much: I repeat, I AM LOOKING AT THE LINK TO THE CITROEN WEB SITE IN THE DEAL AND IT SAYS THE WEIGHT, REPEAT, WEIGHT, OF THE C4 IS 1755 KGS. I am just quoting what it says.

                • +3

@GordonD: Settle down gordond. No need to shout. I was just helping to explain… Anyway I opened that link and clicked specs sheet on the front page, it clearly stated the gross weight 1755kg and tare weight 1248kg next to each other in black and white. Took me 3 seconds to get to that info. BTW if you are not aware, tare/curb/kerb weight and gross weight are common metrics used to specify a vehicle's weights in a specs sheet.
twocsies clearly said kerb weight which you tried too hard to shoot it down LOL…

This Stellantis trash isn't a Citroën. No hydraulic suspension. Awful waste of space SUV. No diesel economy and power. Not made in France or even Spain, to mention where only brings hate from the bootleggers. Sad times.

    • The Citroen C4 is only made in Madrid, Spain as far as I can see

    • Couldn't pay me to own a modern diesel… Except maybe a Toyota or Isuzu… 95% of the time though I'd rather a petrol.

    • +3

Isn't not made in France a good thing?

    • +2

The deal would be so tempting if Citroen retained what they where famous for, their suspension!

  • +12

What? They still have MY22 stock?

"On selected MY22 Citroen CX5 models in stock"

    • +3

Not unusual for Peugeot/Renault/Citroen in AU

  • +18

If no one buys then I guess the price is wrong. No surprise here. And is it really a bargain or just indicative that the price was too high for what it offered. (These are 2022/3 models being cleared)

    From Cars Guide

Anyone who read my piece on the worst-performing individual models will not be shocked to see Citroen 'top' this list. The French brand has a small range in Australia, just four models - C3, C4, C5 Aircross and C5 X - and none managed to sell more than 69 examples in 2023.

    • +12

The Stellantis amalgamation has ruined everything they touch. They even managed to kill off Jeep in America. They're a lost cause, too many mindless heads internally fighting to do nothing.

    • 69 examples

      Definite USP…

    • +1

It they pull out is AU, those 69 will be collector items, lol.

      • +1

And without support and spare parts.

        • +1

By law they need to support products for 10 years I think. After that it's fair game. Should have enough french specialist around so it shouldn't be too much of a problem tbh.

  • +1

@nubzy - this is your moment to shine.

  • +15

Omg more petrol cars heavily discounted. The end of them is here.

    • -4

Umm nope. This is just a crap car that no one wants and they have stock they want to hey rid of. Not many people want EVs. Good luck losing thousands on yours when you sell it. Resale value on EVs is terrible.

Toyota petrol cars and utes have increased in price year on year because people want them.

Has nothing to do with EVs sorry.

      • +6

I so wish you were right, still looking for a cheap second hand EV for my partner. Nothing to be found unfortunately.

        • +7

I want one of these non existent dirt cheap EVs too

        • +2

Huh? There's tons if you look at their original RRP…
I'm waiting until the end of the year and seeing what the Zeeker / Xpeng come in at. More competition will just drive the existing EV stock price down.

        • -2

All second hand EVs will be cheap soon once people realise how much it costs to replace the batteries.

          • @Farticus: Nissan leaf is $10k as a guide.
The cost of the car second hand

          • +1

@Farticus: About the same as replacing an engine in an ICE, and just as unlikely to be needed. Big hypothetical you worry about there…

    • Dream on.

I've nothing against electric but reality is going to crash head on with expectation in the not too distant future.

      • You shouldn't talk about things you have no experience of (in this instance: reality)

        • nope

    • -1

Awkward… Should we tell him guys?

      • no

      • -1

No let him keep believing the propaganda from China. Considering they're pushing them big time because they manufacture most of the batteries for them.

  • +3

the c6 was about $25,000 in Chinese last year

    • +10

      Mandarin or Cantonese?

    • the c6 was about $25,000 in Chinese last year

      in China

  • That C5X is nice. Good for that price

    • +4

I sat in one and it is a lovely car. Very comfortable and would be great for travelling long distance. Just a shame it is made in China. Wouldn't mind picking up a used one in the future though.

      • -2

What makes the shame of made in China?

      • +1

Just a shame it is made in China.

Friends don't let friends buy Citreons

    • +4

Aww c'mon. What could possibly go wrong with a French car made by Stellantis that features the engine BMW uses in the new Mini's?

    • No, but they let them buy Citroens.

  • Do not buy a Citroen.

  • -3

    Citron *

Citron is a citrus fruit that resembles a lumpy lemon. Unlike lemons and oranges, however, citron is used primarily for its zest, since its pulp is dry and contains little juice.
In other words, it's a lemon without juice, but you get the scent.

  • +9

Sad that Aus has become the dumping ground for ice cars. We're still decades behind in our combined mentality regarding them thanks to 10 years of the Libs/Murdoch appeasing their fossil fuel mates and holding us back with constant anti green and ev rehtoric.
