  • Would this be ideal to clip to the front of my back pack for hiking ?

And can it be charged while running at the same time ?

    • I've charged it while walking, so if you are running it should work.

      BTW username checks out.

  • Is it possible to use it as headlight for bike?

    • -1

Wouldn’t it be illegal as it would be too high ? Unless you’re not using it for streets/roads

      • +1

What do you mean too high?

As in the mounting position or the lumens?

    • You can change the brightness, but agreed I have had to whack my high beams on some cyclists

      • +2

If you ever come across any road user with lights that are too bright, blinding them just ends up with two blinded people. Don't do it. Look down to the left towards the verge rather than fixate on their lights.

        • +1

But they would know their lights are too bright only if you do that. Police and fine you if your lights are not properly adjusted as it could be road hazard.

Also sometimes people forget and be on high beam and when they are reminded they go to low beam.

        • +2

But if you give them a flick once, they get the point and hopefully make appropriate adjustments before blinding forty other vehicles.

I’m not some psychopath who drives around permanently blinding other road users.

        59.99 at checkout for me

    • Same for me. 59.99 at checkout

  • Hmmmmm shows as 59.99 here too

  • What was the difference between the 6500k vs the 5000k? I didn’t quite understand it

    • +3

      Colour temperature

TL;DR; 6500k is "daylight", close to pure white but a bit toward the blue end, while 5000k is horizon daylight, i.e. white but with an orange tint.

That's an approximation but close enough for torch comparison purposes.

Can this be charged at the same time as being clipped to the back of my head, whilst I swim in the local pool?

    • +6

      Only with an extension lead

      • Hard to find power outlets at the local pool. Better bring a generator too.

        • +2

No need! Connect the torch to a personal solar panel via the USB-C. Shine the torch onto the solar panel and voila, you are charging while using. Switch to brighter modes to charge faster.

seen wuben posted many times before with decent good deal votes. so they must be decent quality for the price and popular.

but even as a non torch person who finds this not that appealing, just reading the page its very confusing to know what the correct info is.

as OP says while to me sounding like they know some stuff about torches, it uses 18350 battery (never knew these were a thing) so same as 18650 but shorter?

but then in the detailed parameters tab it says "battery life based on 1x pc AA alkaline battery 2700mAh". so which is it does it take AA or 18350 which I looked up and google says are two completely different thickness and length.

also at the top amazon description it says included battery is 1100mAh, so are we meant to cut those battery life specs into less than half if using the included battery? ("included" is 3.7v/1100mah, AA is 1.5v/2700mah)

also not clear if battery is included or not. description says "Equipped with 1100 mAh rechargeable battery," and my thinking is equipped means included, or at least included but non removable.

then you scroll down to the "What you get" picture and it doesn't show a picture of a battery?

for anyone who is actually interested in this weird shaped torch it must be confusing as hell to know what you are paying for.

also just my own opinion but that weird hard to hold in a hand shape means it really is a headstrap torch design. which means imo it should come with the strap included and they should just add $5 to the price (how much can a strap cost to make). I also think it can only mount to their own branded strap, at least that's how I read it.

Dual Battery Options: Powered by 18350 batteries with TYPE-C charging, offering up to 60 hours of continuous use, extendable to a remarkable 180 hours with optional 18650 battery extender.

      • ok so no AA battery support at all when looking at detailed parameters. and if you want the different battery option to use the longer 18650 its at extra cost.

whats weird though is looks like they used the wrong parameters info, but the battery life is actually the same? maybe someone at wuben messed up the amazon listing.

ok im an idiot I think I realised something. 3.7v 1100mah is like equal to 1.5v 2700mah. like AA at 3v would be 1350mah, so at 3.7 probably around 1100mah. so makes sense the battery life of 18350 and AA would be the same. but no AA support seems to be on the wuben official page.

also I see the headband for it is $14 on the same page. so yeah just include it in the box and raise price $5 to $7 I say. nobody is going to hold this torch in their hand without covering the bulb area.

        • It's not really designed for hand holding. You could, but you'd likely go for a bigger torch. I'd have got one if I'd been quick enough. It would be handy for night time map reading when clipped to a breast pocket. Light shining across a map can be more pleasant to use than the harsh reflection of a head torch.

          • @banana365: ok just now seeing the clip feature in the 5th amazon image. missed that.

I was just going by the main image which suggests you hold the dinky little thing "like this".
