@Aureus: Thats because they track what they baited you on.
Ive been getting baited with Paige Spiranac articles and my golfing game is the best yet 🤣

            • @0806449: Yes but if you want a >12 handicap you should visit my website at wwwputyourpininhere.com.au

@0806449: I didn't know Paige is the best golf coach in the world… ;p

My interest piqued when I read that the BYD owner was Mr Cool. I delved further, and was disappointed to read that he was Mr Ian Cool.
But things perked up when I saw a picture of the missus and kids…. I eagerly looked for a son called Joe Cool, who could call his father daddy Cool.
I can't tell you how disappointed I was to see their names were noah, levi and ruben. I'm trying hard to assimilate this, but don't know if I ever will.

  • Probably having trouble moving them as you can no longer install 32a circuits unless you have 3 phase, in QLD anyway.

    • +1

You get the choice of single or three phase unit

  • The base model only has a 70kw motor, which is way too underpowered. The claimed 0-100 is 12.3 seconds.

It's similarly priced competition, the Ora and the MG4 are 126kw and 125kw respectively.

    • Yes, base model Dynamic only good for grammas running chores around urban area.

    • If it has a suitable range, it sounds wonderful. The less energy converted to cable and windings heat, the more efficient.
Only 70Kw is something like the power of beloved's yaris….. but chargeable on domestic solar. Or say 20% less than the power of a toyota coaster motorhome that can only reach 130 kph.

I mean…. I do sympathise with those that lament about all the seconds they lose out of a day by not being able to leave black lines on the road…. but would also suggest that it's probably only about as long as they spend fumbling with the house keys after their drive.

Power and speed are fine…. get a motorbike… go to the track…. whatever… but aren't you incredibly lucky you weren't a P plating hoon when boxy falcons were GTs and took 14 1/2 seconds to gallop down the quarter mile. I'm guessing you might have committed self harm at the frustration of being so slow.
Or perhaps a bit earlier than that, when you'd have to wring the bejesus out of your mini to remotely approach 12.3 seconds for 0-100 (kph).

Except peek efficiency for electric engines is around 75% of peek load, so if you're having to really turn up the revs to get moving, the car might be chewing through more of the battery.

        • and a little bit of peukert's effect despite some stories it doesn't occur with lithium… and the more current being transferred to the motor, the greater the amount of energy being converted to heat by resistance.
A bit like ICE, but not to the same degree.
And, just like ICE, the larger the engine/motor, the greater amount of weight carried around, and thus efficiency.

  • MG4 is better ngl.

    • +3

For MG4, I find the tech is too primitive and the interior is too dark and gloomy, I will feel depressed sitting inside it. There is an article recently saying MG is going to upgrade its interior in the near future, but no one know when it will happen.

      • Yeah, we had loads of issues with android auto and the ui being unresponsive. It was too frustrating during the test drive so we opted for a Dolphin. I preferred the drive of the MG4.

Not to say the Dolphin is without its own idiosynchracies, it has been pretty good so far.

        • Did you get the base (slow) one?

          • +1

@WhyAmICommenting: No, got the fast one. Coming from Japanese turbo imports, it's pretty fun. Hardly a sportscar, but it's sharp off the line.

      • Dark and gloomy inside, causing depression? Thanks for that heads up!

        • +1

Yep, after a long day at work, driving home inside this dark gloomy interior makes me depressed.

          • @edfoo: ahh… thanks for the explanation! I'll be OK then.
I never get depressed leaving work.

I would be extremely wary about anything from BYD in terms of warranty and service.

Having different components in the car covered under different warranty policies is dodgy as (profanity). I would understand a separate battery and vehicle warranty but with BYD, you're looking at varying warranty period from 60000km - 160000km depending on what component it is from suspension parts to the electrical systems.

  • Buyer beware - Thailand investigates EV giant BYD's dealers over unfair discounting complaint

Let's say you pay 40K for a brand new EV today, then 3 months later a brand new EV could be 30K (or lower than).
