Just intime for my new Tyres

    • What tyres do people get? Do you have an idea or just whatever the guys tell you to buy within your budget?

      • +3

Usually what you pay for is what you get. Michelin/Bridgestone at the super premium end, Continental/Yokohama regular premium, Pirelli/Hankook/Kumho midprice, and then the various Chinese brands at the bottom.

If you are on a budget probably the Kumho at minimum. Some tyres in the Hankook range ae said to be equivalent of Continentals. You'd find a lot of subjective reviews in this industry since people really only buy tyres every 3 to 5 years, but the general trend of a tyre model is usually pretty accurate if there are a lot of reviews.

The way people talk about tyre deals, you'd think everyone is buying them yearly heh.

        • Thanks bookmarked :) my cx5 according to dealership might need new tyres on my next service at 70k so considering I bought it back in 2018, if I change it next year then I managed to get 7 years out of it current tyres which is not bad right?

Thanks for your explanation, got some questions if you don’t mind me asking :)
          1) I guess wicking checking mycar it looks like the tyres availability is based on per shop on what they provide
          2) what’s the best way to find what tyre is best to buy? Just look an online reviews?
          3) looks like average price of a wheel give it take is $300 (then goes more exy if you do premium tyres) so get 4 tyres that’s 1.2k, does this cost include installation or is that an extra cost?
          4) when they change the tyres I assume they take your original rims and put this into the new wheels being installed?

            @prankster:

            1. Check Tempe Tyres (NSW) and see what they have, and then compare the price/selection against mycar.
            2. Yeah more or less. The "best" tyre according to most people online would be a Michelin PS4, its also ridiculously expensive though.
            3. Fitting and balancing is usually free (not Tyroola).
            4. New tyres onto old existing rims, correct.
      • I've tried them all. For me:

The best longevity is often the Chinese brands - I had a set on my car last about 7 years. Performed just fine. I got rid of them out of "boredom" at the end. They would've gone on for longer.

The best budget performance would be PS71 or PS91 from Kumho. Best proper premium is one of the Pilot Super Sports or similar.

Rubbish would be the Continentals, Dunlops and Pirellis. They are the worst when it comes to longevity and give really poor traction performance after just a few months.

    Thanks

This would have been handy with the pirelli offer last month

    • Why are these Pirelli tyres talked about so much? I can see they’ve been discounted before but I can’t even see this as an option for my cx-5? Is this based on certain shops having them?

  • +1

dont bother with mycar. did the pirelli offer last year and they didn't even have any in stock. just tried to shift you onto a different tyre.

    • I had the same experience. Sketchy business

      • Still waiting on my tyres from the last deal which have been “lost” twice

  • Do they sell third party gift cards?

  • Do they do brake service?

  • My local store was pretty bad service wise. I saw them run over a radiator cap. They lost my wheel lowering rod. Left an ordered part in my vehicle. That within 45 mins.

    • What is a "wheel lowering rod"?

      • Tool to lower spare from underneath

    • mine was bad however the manager managed it very well.

Scratched my rim and owned up to it and repaired it.

  • Any way to spend but use later? Seemingly no store gift card, no store credit.

  • Anyone tried the viking tyres?

  • thanks had a nail in mine need new tyres :)

  • I used this deal last year for my annual service. They managed to crack my windscreen while changing the wiper blades.

    • LOL HOW THE F***?? i dont understand how this was even possible…..

  • Can anyone share this offer if not using? Amex said it reached its saving cap

  • I didn't get on my amex, I got the deal last year..
