  • your friend hasn’t been a ubank customer in the past 12 months

Offer terms and conditions

Effective 1 July 2024

Under the Refer a Friend offer, we will pay a $30 bonus payment to you and a $30 bonus payment to your friend once the offer criteria are met in accordance with these offer terms.

This Refer a Friend offer is available to all ubank customers who have been issued an invite code through the ubank app and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer (unless we determine otherwise, acting reasonably).

To be eligible for this offer:

  • your ‘friend’ must sign up to ubank and open their initial ubank accounts using your invite code between 1 July 2024 and 31 August 2024 (inclusive); and
  • your ‘friend’ must make 5 eligible card purchases and those purchases must be settled in their first 30 days as a ubank customer.

Note: Only settled card purchases are eligible to meet the bonus criteria. This means we must wait until each card payment has been settled (no longer showing as “pending” in the friend’s transaction history) before you or the friend become eligible for the bonus payment.

The Refer a Friend bonus payment will be made to your/your friend’s ubank (Spend) account.

We retain the right, acting reasonably, to refuse to pay or cancel a “refer a friend bonus” payment without notice to you/your friend. The reasons for us to refuse or cancel a payment may include, but are not limited to, if:

  • we believe that you or your friend’s access to the ubank app is or may be fraudulent
  • we believe that you or your friend have threatened, or have taken any steps (in our reasonable opinion) to threaten, the security of ubank
  • we believe that you or your friend have breached any of our General Terms
  • we believe that you or your friend are acting in bad faith
  • we have locked or closed your or your friend’s account
  • you/your friend have closed your Spend account before payment has been made
  • you or your friend’s account contains unpaid charges or is overdrawn
  • your friend was a past customer of ubank (excluding any UHomeLoan account) and closed all their Spend and Save accounts with ubank in the preceding 12 months of re-signing up on the ubank app and opening a new Spend and Save account.

We also retain the right to stop the offer at any time and to change the conditions or incentive of the offer. However we will take reasonable steps to publish any decision to stop this offer early or any adverse change to the offer terms no later than the date the change takes effect.

Note: This Refer a Friend offer replaces any previous Refer a Friend offers which apply in relation to friends who sign up to ubank and open accounts using your invite code between 1 July 2024 and 31 August 2024 (inclusive) Extended until end of Sept

More hassle with 5 transactions and only get $30 … Should be like $100

What are the advantages of this bank? I have Up bank, NAB, ING bank, St. George bank, and Wise (not a bank but more useful with better international transfer rates than normal bank rates, multi currencies and multiple bank accounts under your name in 1 physical card and can have 3 virtual cards).

    • Interest rates.

And no 'grow balance' hoop means it's less hassle to access your Savings funds.

        • This is a major advantage. My Westpac Life accounts are effectively untouchable for payments as I'd lose hundreds of dollars of interest. I use UBank instead for the high interest and ability to make payments.

    • The advantages is that they probably won't change their product much, now that as of 1 July it is a much worse product.

Cannot debit from savings account. Need to transfer to another linked ubank account manually before paying externally

Only savings account earns decent (any?) interest

Personally I only have a few thousand in ubank, I have moved funds to Rabo and macquarie

Yep, way worse now than it was a few weeks ago. Buy uBank, you were briefly amazing.

No transfers directly from Savings sucks, but the increase from 5.1% to 5.5% for the first 100k is a big deal, making it actually competitive with the best.

As far as I know the only bank that has interest on their transaction account is Macquarie.

        • To benefit from the saving bonus rates your need to deposit $500 monthly, but can you use these funds (ie transfer them back)?

          • +1

@Peperu: yes, you can transfer funds straight out again once you've unlocked the bonus rate if you want to

      • Definitely worth knowing this for people who schedule Pay Anyones.

Now I have to schedule a transfer to the savings, then schedule Pay Anyone from the savings for the next day to be sure they're done in the right order.

I think someone reported that if they are on the same day, the internal transfers are processed first. Try it once with a small amount to external bank account

    • Revolut is sometimes better then Wise for it's FX rates especially with the recent fee increases on Wise. Ubank is good for interest and it also has no exchange rate fees like Up.

      • Up also doesn't have international transaction fees.

  • I don't have uBank. Do we use the codes from the existing "REFERRAL LINKS" to sign up?

I was very interested in ubank but unfortunately I don’t have a phone capable of running a recent enough phone OS version to install their app which was required to get an account - iphone needed iOS 16

    • +1

They do also have the website. I haven't had any problems with android even on my old samsung s8

      • Sign up page only shows a QR code. Seems App only bank? And it does not like my iPhone 6s.

        • Yeah, it looks like signup can only be done via the app. Once you're set up though you can use the website, not helpful in your case I'm afraid.

  • Is ubank only for citizens?

    • Yep:

To open a ubank account, you need to be:

      • 16 years old or over &
      • an Australian citizen or permanent resident with an Australian residential address.

You can’t open a ubank account in a company or business name (including sole traders) or in a trust capacity.

  • Do payments made from the Bills debit card count? Because that is the only one I have while I wait for the Spend debit card to be delivered.

    • Do you mean the virtual card ? That one is fine to use, you can also use the digital payment methods Apple, Google Pay, Samusung Pay…

Anyone knows how long does it take for $30 to be credit to your account after criteria is met?

    • As soon as they settle, so normally 1-3 working days.

  • Does it work if one person had joint account?

    • Had? how long ago? If it's over 12months since it's closed it's fine. If it's still open the terms are not clear.
