[VIC, SA] Gym Membership for 12 Months $149 + $88 Admin Fee @ Derrimut 24:7 Gym

243

Can you believe Derrimut Gym has once again lowered their prices of their 12 month membership?!
It's kind of ridiculous to see the amount of people coming in during peak hour, so you get what you pay for.

Nevertheless, a new sale has replaced the previous sale.
Therefore, the new price of the membership now is for $149 (Membership Cost) + $88 (Establishment/Admin Fee), hence $237.00 total upfront for 1 year membership.

Membership Details:

👉 Valid to NEW, CURRENT & EXPIRED MEMBERS ONLY.
👉 24-hour access to ALL locations Australia-wide, including group fitness classes.
🔑 After purchasing, please visit your nominated gym location with your proof of purchase and valid ID to finalize your membership.

    Wow no QLD locations anymore.

Valid to NEW, CURRENT & EXPIRED MEMBERS ONLY. Valid to NEW, CURRENT & EXPIRED MEMBERS ONLY.

    So… everyone?

    $88 establishment fee applies

Only to new members, right? Otherwise it wouldn't be an establishment fee..

Sarcasm aside same neg for the same shady business massively overselling their capacity.

    • You sounds bit bitter with them, what happened?

      • +2

These "cheap" deals mean this is the most affordable gym option for teens, oldies, and everybody in-between. They don't have the capacity for the amount of members they have. If you are weightlifting and go during peak hours after school/work (4pm-8pm) you will almost certainly be waiting for equipment. I believe there also are some locations that are currently placing actual capacity limits during their peak hours which means you will have to wait in line outside like back in the covid lockdown days,

        • +2

Are you considering buying an MG and expecting it to be a Tesla Model 3?

I used one during the peak time, my only issue was the car parking, other than that it's not that bad. At that time, it was $300/y, and my next best option was Anytime Fitness, which is closer to $800.

          • +2

@boomramada: You pay for a car, you expect it to get you from point A to B. You pay for a gym, you expect to be able to use the equipment. I've been with them for nearly 10 years at this point. I know what I'm getting—I'm just letting people make their own decisions about it. Your mileage WILL vary depending on your location, time, and routine.

      • Wouldn't say I'm bitter at all, I just think they are unethical even by the standard of gym chains and people deserve to know what sort of company they're dealing with.

  • so if you already have a membership can you buy it to extend it? or does it replace it

    • Extend it, they call it a membership top up

Gyms are doing it tough. When discretionary spend drops then gym membership is often what gives. The Bourke St Virgin gym has closed down.

    • +1

Barangaroo has also closed down after COVID

  • From the website terms and conditions: Strictly NO refunds on Upfront Memberships

  • +2

Looks like there’s gonna be a bunch of disgruntled customers on the news in the near future once they go under.

    • It's very unlikely they'll go under any time soon. They just opened a few new gyms this year and (cheaply) renovated the one I go to.

  • I'll take the risk if it's 49+88 :)

  • thats <$5 per week which is a great value, i recently signed up for 18 month @crunch which was <$7

  • +2

Soon they’ll be paying you to go to the gym

  • Waste of money and time for almost all of gym-goers who are already loyal regular patrons of Macca, JFK, and HJ.

  • +1

Can you claimed this via Health Insurance?

  • Could it be possible that this is some sort of money laundering scheme. Get as many members as possible and then funnel a justifiable amount through each gym depending on how many members at that branch…

    $399 in January

    $279 in March

    $199 in April

    $188 in May

    $168 also in May

Now we're at $149. Something doesn't smell right to me

    • I mentioned that in a previous post and got told no everything is fine etc etc

    • +1

Their highly elaborate & subsidised business model supports this pricing structure.

  • +2

For future reference for the people who dont know, best time to buy memberships for derrimut gym is EOFY and Xmas time.
    These sales arent unusual.

Went past Braybrook and Derrimut gym locations yesterday to attempt to train. Broken equipment, overloaded gyms and barely anything that was free to use.

Great prices, but also consider what you're signing yourself up for and check out the location at the time you're going to train.

    • +2

This is the story of most GYMS? My local gym is already packed at 5am lol.

      Maybe check Alice Spring branch?

      • Generally I'd agree, but most gyms are also a little more well maintained than these gyms.

I'm also going to assume you meant Caroline Springs because I'm definitely not driving 2k kms for a gym lmao

        • Braybrook and Derrimut are far from each other to begin with. You may as well go to Caroline Springs if you're willing to travel between the two.

          • +1

@teatea: Alice Springs and Caroline Springs are two very different locations.

I was making a joke that's clearly not been understood here lol

            • @Zex94: I got it. However, the red dust getting into the bikes would probably grind them to a halt.

I'm a chump paying $11 a week for Zap Fitness

    • Yeah but you probably aren't standing around for 10 min waiting for the squat rack.

    • They're zapping your money fast it sounds like.

  • +1

Still got a membership for ~11months waiting for them to get desperate enough to need current members to top up

I agree with what others have said the establishment/Admin fee is a scam it is unavoidable so should just be put in the advertised price. But even with that the cost of a 12-mo membership is ridiculously cheap when you compare it to the competition.

If you go to the gym during 'peak hours' it probably is just worth paying for a different gym but out side of the morning and post work rush it is generally big enough to handle the capacity however come 4-7pm on a week day the place is wayyyy to crowded

  • +1

These gyms are already packed at every hour of the day. Not worth it.

    • +2

Im unsure what location you go to but i visit mine at about 10PM and its rather empty.
      - No School people, No Tradies, No retired folk. Theres cleaners.

Sure Derrimut locations are busy not just because cheap but also because they have a whole heap of equipment you won't find at a Zap fitness.

  • +1

It’s horrendous to see people queuing to get in gym recently multiple times.
I started home gym since COVID never looking back. If you have some space at home, an elliptical machine, a bench and some dumbbells with plates would be sufficient for most people except a body builder. And the equipments are cheap from FB marketplace if you are on budget then you can sell around the same price when opt out.

  • +2

im guessing that if they are retreating from some markets this is the classic sell lots of cheap subscriptions to have a last gasp to save the business deal ? Of course the overselling will weigh down the facilities and get people annoyed and the company will collapse sooner.

  • +2

A lot of heroes on this site, no wonder it’s gone to shit. God forbid someone posts an actual friggen bargain these days…
Who gives two shits about their marketing techniques or their silly establishment fee.
If you can get a 12 month gym membership for $237 you’re doing ok.
Anyone who complains about a 247/365 membership for 65c a day needs to hand in their ozbargains license.

Haters jog on, fellow ozbargainers, isn’t good to see a deal on here for once.

    Great deal!

    • +3

I get where you're coming from on talking about people complaining about the price but here's where I'm coming from when I read your comment.

I'm coming from having the experience of turning up to my gym on a Monday with a 12 month membership cash payment in my wallet, ready to pay.

..Only the doors were closed and there was a bunch of the regulars standing around, looking pretty lost. All having read the note on the door that effectively says "seeya".

Did any of them know this was coming? Nope. Was this gym taking signups last week? Yep.

Keep that in mind when you pay this company that has been continuously overselling cheaper and cheaper 12 month memberships.

Also keep in mind that they shuttered the one in QLD, possibly just a few days ago. Perhaps they made good on the balance of peoples memberships, I hope so.

It's not the price that'll get you, it's the potential for this to implode.

      • Was about to join the Qld one last sale but they changed their opening hours. Why have 24:7 in your name when you’re not open 24:7.

Also keep in mind that they shuttered the one in QLD, possibly just a few days ago. Perhaps they made good on the balance of peoples memberships, I hope so.

I think it’s doubtful that they will be making good on their “no refunds” policy. Their previous response to criticism on the google reviews indicates that their response will be “you can go to any of our other clubs” attitude.

      • Been going to Airport West and Ravenhall for about 8~ years, so it's an acceptable risk given the price. Sorry you lost your local, but they're renovating my local one so that's a good sign to me and, any gym can go under.

    • Imagine if you signed up to the Qld one last week. Closest one is now interstate

  • What are your next stop, Qld folks?

  • For everyones vitriol here, I checked my local Yarra gym membership for a year - $51.20 per f/n, $102.40 p/m for a total of $1228.80 per year. It also shuts at 9pm weekdays, 7pm weekends and some are closed public holidays. And that's ONLY for their silver membership (gold was about $200~ more) which was any two out of three of - pools and sauna, group classes or the gym. Consider that.
