[VIC, SA] 12-Month Gym Membership $188 Upfront and No Establishment Fee or $7.95/Week Direct Debit @ Derrimut 24:7 Gym

540

Is there a massive irony in calling yourself Derrimut 24/7 and reducing over half your network to a model which is closed for a good portion of the day? Sure.

Will you have broken equipment, dirty toilets and over crowding between 5-7am and 4-7pm? Sure.

Will they extend this special or offer an even better one in a few months? Absolutely.

But for $188 with NO ESTABLISHMENT FEE (52c a day) if you have a location that’s still 24/7 access or moving to a key fob model this isn’t bad and I believe their best promo ever?

“ and reducing over half your network to a model which is closed for a good portion of the day”

    They have locations that close?

    • +2

Surely ACCC can't be happy with the name

      • +5

Only a matter of time. Also forums indicating a lot of "delays"/handballing around refund requests after they had the $199 deal (just before stripping 24/7 from gyms).

        • +1

So are these guys about to go under? What's the go?

          • +5
            • @ricee007: Well. Fk. I just got duped into the top up because I haven't been in two months and wanted to start again. I had no idea it was in such a state. What the hell.

          • +1

@blighst: This is the running rumour for the last 3 years. They just opened one in Port Melbourne, so very unlikely.

      • +6

        24hrs/week, 7wks/year

    Haters assemble

  • -1

Good value gym even with some of the changes, to always open access

  • How about $188 worth of Facebook marketplace gym equipment in the garage/shed/spare room?

    • +8

That will get used as much as your gym membership?

      • +1

It could be more or less but you get to keep the equipment, no travel, and home comfort

    • +2

adjustable dumbells a bench and maybe pullup bar and you're pretty much set.

      • Can't find a great bargain on adjustable dumbbells that go over 30kg per arm

  • +12

I've been at Derrinut for over 3 years and can't complain. This price is a bargain

  • +2

Will you get a refund when they close down? No.

Btw, atl and cheapest gym I believe.

    • +2

Why do you think they'll close down? They have these sales every year. ATL was $149 last year

      • +1

ATL was actually $99 during the lockdowns 3-4~ years ago while the gyms were closed, in Victoria at least with the proviso of the membership not starting until the gyms opened.

      • Why? It happened to me. This deal has no admin fee.

      • +3

they closed the only one in qld, and were doing one of these 'specials' right up to the close. no notice or anything

    • Thr ATL was $99 back on the day

However it was legit only 1 gym in Derrimut

  • Don’t you guys have Revo yet? I thought they were in SA now. ≈$10 a week, clean, new equipment, usually big and true 24/7 access. Actually a revelation amongst shitty predatory 24/7 gyms like Anytime and Goodlife. Snap wasn’t terrible.

    • +4

Revo getting too busy for their space even at early times. Ppl don't seem to be working and just hang about doom scrolling on their phones. Equipment is pretty average, not alot of choices.

      • +1

Same in WA as their popularity exploded but still easily the best option. Smaller ones are at times too jammed to get a good routine in but the supersize one I go to has for example five benches and five pulley stations so it’s (almost) never too bad.

    • +1

Plenty of revos in SA. I switched from Derrimuts. Derrimuts have a lot better equipment. Revo layout is nicer as most are well spaced and less than a year old. Miss the protein bar. Toilets equally as feral. Overall I would gladly move back to Derrimuts. A few good ones in my area.

Every time these deals are posted on Ozbargain, people say they will close down 😂 3 years done and jumping on this again. I actually missed this deal 3 times lucky they keep extending lol

One of these days Millhouse.. One of these days.

    • People will say the business is going under, that it's closing down, going into liquidation or administration… blah blah, all the usual nonsense. Every time there's a cheap deal advertised, the same types show up with their negativity. Now it's started on Reddit too. The same people post negative comments over there, then come back here, refer to their own Reddit comments, and act like it's proof the place is going under.

Yeah, I agree, some of them are seriously bitter / busy. Especially those who seem afraid of crowds. These are the people who prefer high-end gyms, paying 3 or 4 times more than the deal price. Some of them clearly panic in public and might benefit from something to help with social anxiety or even agoraphobia.

They're still going strong, with even more branches now than they had back then.

Genuine questions over longevity of the gym.

    • Sales and offers are becoming more desperate and frequent. Yes I know there has been a track record of this.
    • hours changed from 24/7 to limited hours at certain locations with minimal notice. Following out cry, they promised 24/7 fobs within weeks, now pushing a couple of months with no sign of them.
    • as mentioned, equipment left broken.

Something to be cautious of. Otherwise, I don't mind the gyms. This is coming from someone who is paid up until mid 2026.

    • -2

The question is, are you really going to go broke over $188 if they close?

      • Some people it would be more important than others. Personally, I was happy to take the risk on a top up knowing it may be money down the drain.

        • -5

If that's the case then i would advise not to pay membership. Everything has a risk. Loss of $188 will not render people homeless. YMMV

  • And you can pay with after pay, so even if you are broke there's no excuse and they never have your card details. Other than them being really busy during peak hours.

  • +1

In Port Melbourne they just opened a fancy af gym why would they do that if they were about to go under. But I guess rent can't be cheap there?

  • I pay $28 per week for my membership at Anytime Fitness in Sydney.

    • Thanks for sharing

    • You're getting ripped off then, it's about that per fortnight in most places.

  • +2

If they were losing money.. it's because they should just go without most of the staff… just not needed. Just have cleaners. Don't need the staff that just sit at the front doing mostly nothing

    • agreed

This gym name was familiar and I remembered Louis Rossmann had a go at them

    https://youtu.be/a9PhSid7D4c?si=GYdxmqIPF8ozOMQ2

    • Wow, louis rossman covering a thing from straya!

      not expected…

just because of him I will save my money outta spite haha!

  • +4

I honestly suggest not going to this gym, the OP that mentioned all the faults are correct and it definitely is a "you get what you paid for".

If you wanna have a consistent gym to go to, please check around your area for local gyms instead and pay a little extra.

  • +1

I think it's normal price now. I bought one in February and it's same price since then. Just keep extending sale. I even got a renewable offer $80 for 6 months

    • Nah, what they do is they drop the price for a while , then it creeps back up …Got to $398 plus admin and then started dropping $349/$299/$249/$199 sometimes with admin fee and sometimes without……

  • Best gym In the world! Been going 10 years strong.
Best value membership you’ll ever get.

    • -2

Yeah till they decide to cut all the services you signed up for. Fail to repair equipment. Impose insane carpark restrictions. Cut their open hours down for the 24 hour gym to staffed hours only, then fail to provide dates on fob system. Refuse to reply to emails and become uncontactable. Great buisness model.

      • Other gym franchises are no different but I wish we had something like this in Sydney, much better value for sure.

      • It's called Derrimut 24/7 they would have to change their name to cut the hours …. Please provide examples of Derrimut gym that has done what you said….

Been training in derrimut braybrook over a year, everything is good except the ultimate peak time(3pm-7pm). BTW, you will feel like you're going to the rave instead of the gym lol

  • +1

Been going for a year, lots of dribble about being closed down probably started by competitors that can't match this pricing….It is a gym that works on volume , simple economics the more people they can get by with smaller margins…. Ex percent of members go once , twice a week , others goes five days a week. I have a friend who hasn't been for a month…. This is how gyms work they don't expect everyone who signs up to attend often. I couldn't be happier with this gym lots of equipment, main issue is parking but manageable as I generally go off peak.

Would like to hear thoughts on each site from those in SA. I used to be a member (grange Rd and Melrose) and used to be fine, now looking to rejoin. But can't figure out which ones are not 24/7. So if you have comments good and bad I'd like to hear.

Got a membership at derries and revo. Windsor derries is pretty feral especially the bathrooms. Best time to train is 5 to 7 in the morning. Dead af and all equipment to yourself. Don’t know how people end up going after work. Revo on the hand is also getting busier but I prefer their clientele.

  • -2

These guys probably make most of they money from the under-the-table steroid sales, not the membership fees. Stop the bankrupcty accusations.
