no point in xiaomi since they killed the sd slot imo

Lmao plenty of us cope just fine

big reason to get the poco f1, at least for me, was the headphone jack and sd slot

        • I can see how it might be that way for power users, but UFS storage is miles faster than microSD speeds and in the last few years Bluetooth audio quality is comparable to the old 3.5mm earphones.

I would have been hesitant maybe four or five years back but storage prices have dropped, so I'm not fussed. Got the Poco F6 for about $550, 512GB internal storage - plenty for me.

with google cloud I'm fine without an SD slot…

Buy a cheap phone but then pays for subscriptions….

i back up to PC, and find it hard enough to find stuff even on 128gb …

          • @garage sale: If you are in a lot of whatsapp groups where people are sharing a lot of forwards. And you are taking a lot of photos and videos, you will run out of 128GB pretty fast. If not, its decent enough.

        • were talking $20 a year assuming there's no discount, which there usually is yearly.

if it really bothers you, you could just plug it into your computer and backup your photos…

    • Any decent alternative with sdcard ?

      • nope. blame apple for being brave

        • +3

Apple never had microSD card support on iPhone though..?

          • @ldd-mn: apple have progressively removed features like headphone jack and other phone companies have followed blindly

          • +3

@ldd-mn: Another reason I don't purchase their products.

    • They still exist but not in the flagship models. I.e. Redmi Note 13 non-Pro, Redmi Note 12 non-Pro, Poco M6 series, Poco C65 and Poco X5 to name a few.

  • How is the camera comparing to A55 ?

  • I think the Iqoo Z9 Turbo is the better phone at this price range.

    • This is global version though nfc payment banks app etc

No doubt they'll only update this for a year like with the X3 Pro..

(With the X3 Pro region set to Australia the last update/security-update was Jan 2022 (a few weeks after purchase), when they claimed they'd be updated until April 2024, changing the region to Poland I managed to get an 01/01/2023 update, no where near the claimed updates until April 2024)

It got an update for Global on 29/05/2023 though?

      https://mifirm.net/model/vayu.ttt#global

      • Is it possible to get it from the actual company? or only 3rd party sites?

and that's still basically a year short of their claimed support period….

        • The links they provide are from Xiaomi's servers.

If you don't like that Xiaomi didn't keep updating it until the date they said, install a custom ROM.

    My POCO bricked.
Make sure you back up your China phones peeps.

  • why get these over a Google pixel a series or Samsung a series (sometimes flagship) for similar price?

    • +1

I don't think either of those lines have come down to this sort of price.

And to be a bit different.

      • Pixel with cashback offers is around this price

    • Performance some people just buy phone to play games this is the phone for them

      • that's why i bought this one, lol

Unintentional bonus: Your carrier will harass you with targeted discounts for new phones as they regard this as unusable past the 3G shutdown. (Similar to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/852504 and in the future possibly others)

Yes, you can disable the carrier check for now and toggle VoLTE/VoWIFI/VoNR on anyway…

    • How did you disable the carrier check?

    • Get a amayasim and wait till the shotdown hoping they redo the deal in august

    • Hey thanks for this post getting harassed with my wife's fairly new Poco F5. They're saying that she won't be able to do emergency calls, is this true or sales pitch?

      • +1

They're saying that she won't be able to do emergency calls, is this true or sales pitch?

It's kind of true, given that it's basically impossible for the majority of people to know whether the phone will attempt to dial 000 over 3G instead of trying over VoLTE as some have been shown to.

That and the whole VoLTE not working out of the box kind of disqualified it in carrier's eyes to begin with, given you wouldn't be able to make any calls unless you remembered to disable the check first. *#*#volte#*#* (I forget the numbers, but it's T9 for volte. Isn't that just cute.)

Pretty expensive. It was US$256 a couple of weeks ago. Or even cheaper with coupons. I would wait for another sale.

    • US$247.72 delivered with code SALECD45

I took the risk by getting this phone from Kogan and it has paid off. This phone is blazingly fast with crisp and vibrant display. The haptic feedback and speaker quality is topnotch.

  • is it worth getting the 12gb + 512gb version?
