Best Gaming PC Currently on OzBargain

I'm looking at spending max $1k on a gaming PC and there are so many deals on at the moment, my head is spinning at which one is the best value for money, any advice ?

i'm a casual gamer, generally run simulation type games but would be hopeful i could run the likes of GTA.

Or even an alternate not on Ozbargain :)

i was leaning towards the Intel Core i5-12400F RTX 4060 ITX Gaming PC

or this one ?

or the 3-12100F, RTX 4060, B660 Wi-Fi:

  • If you don't need the small form factor/portability of an ITX build, don't get one as you're paying for a form factor you won't be taking advantage of.

    • so id be paying extra for this one to have it in a small form ?

      • Pretty much, ITX mobos and cases are pricey

Components may also not be the best performing or bang for buck given they have to choose components within size limits.

This is coming from someone who has done their own ITX build.

        • thanks for the heads up, im a complete noob, so hoping someone can point out a great sub $1k deal !

    What resolution is your monitor?

That determines the outcome of this entire venture :/

    • It's only 1080 but I hope to upgrade that in the future too, so I'm looking at the best value for money pc and then I'll upgrad the monitor to match in the future

The i5-12400f with an RTX4060 for $748 is a phenomenal deal for awesome 1080p or functional 1440p gaming with DLSS3. You can't do better for value this side of $1000 without building it yourself.

    • On the contrary, most of these cheap builders lately post their pcpartpicker parts lists, and you can't even beat these prices building for yourself at the cheapest attainable individual parts prices. And a builder gives a warranty also.

For $748, you definitely could not build a better gaming machine with new parts. Awesome deal considering the labour isn't even break even.

But for about $1000 you could upgrade to a 4070, or maybe $850 with a 4060ti.

        • I'd probably go maximum spec for the money too. I was going to suggest a Nebula PC, but wasn't really sure what's good around the $1k mark. I've recently been looking at the 4070 Ti / SUPER builds in recent months, which I reckon are amazing bang for buck at 1440p, but OP hasn't specified their screen res just yet.

          • @JownehFixIT: Not a good screen unfortunately, 1080, but I do hope.to upgrade that too to suit

            • @robwa: If you're likely to be upgrading monitor anyway, and 1440p high refresh is an option at all, I'd consider at least a 4070 GPU upgrade. But hey, that's just me. I'm going 4070 Ti SUPER for 1440p 165hz myself, so hoping that will go very nicely indeed.

            • @robwa: The RTX 4060 is more than enough for 1080p, it'll play GTA5 with max preset at 144fps and Cyberpunk 77 with high preset at 80fps.

It will struggle at 1440p, but even then you can still expect any game out there right now to run at 60FPS with medium/low preset.

@JownehFixIT: The current upper-mid bracket sucks right now for 1440p.

Both the 4070 Ti and 4070 Super are crippled above 1080p by only having 12GB of VRAM, and nothing from AMD is cheap enough to justify the loss of DLSS3, especially with RDNA3 being on a worse node for heat and power consumption.

The 4070 Ti Super is the only reasonable card l've seen in the entire generation for 1440p, or maybe a cheap 4070 Super if you're planning to upgrade again in a few years.

The 7900xtx is an interesting card though, very appealing for a mixed gaming and productivity build. Only it, the 4090 and the 3090 have 24GB VRAM, so at half the price of a 4090 it occupies a very unique spot.

            • @Jolakot: I am very glad to have waited for a decent 4070 Ti Super build from Nebula PC with your reply in mind. I went with the Thorn Elite. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/851297

              Pretty sweet deal for a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, 32GB DDR5 RAM @6400MHz and CL32, 1TB MSI M450 Gen4 M.2 SSD (R: 3600MB/s | W: 3000MB/s so not the best in class) for $2348 + $50 Delivery.

I really couldn't go past that 3 year return to base warranty, and Lawrence is always good for OzBargain direct messaging, and quite negotiable with parts and prices. Thinking of adding this Lexar 4TB drive to the build so I asked him about the price, he said he could put one in for slightly cheaper than this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/852867

@JownehFixIT: Looks like a great machine, that'll serve you well for many years :)

                • +1

@Jolakot: That is definitely the hope. I have never been one to hang out for the next gen and pay top dollar to be at the cutting edge, except one time for the 1st gen i7-860, and in retrospect it probably wasn't worth it, haha.

New Nebula build, but slightly beyond budget for an RTX 4060 build perhaps. Notable difference is CPU and RAM here. Oh and the stock wraith stealth cooler. Probably wouldn't leave that on.

    • +1

i need to add windows too, so that will bring me right over budget, what if i stick to the 1080, how about the below, is this a better deal than the others previously mentioned ?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/849806

      Introducing the Hera - ASUS RTX 4060 DUAL(nebulapc.com.au) - $898 after OZB_HERA_EOFY.

    • ok the boss has told me i could go a bit North of $1k, i do still need to add Windows 11 - would you say that this new nebula build is the pick of the bunch around this price range ?

      • The Hera certainly seems like good value for money. Do bare in mind the RAM is DDR4 at 3200MHz so not up there with about double the speed at DDR5 which apparently makes a difference more for AMD CPUs, so this build could be fine, I'm not 100% sure.

im not sure whats wrong with my wife, but she says sure get what you want…i don't want to push too hard incase i ruin it altogether :)

would you say the one you rcommended earlier would be the go ?

You're not sure what's RIGHT with your wife, my dude!

I quite like a lot of those specs on paper, sure! I'd get some other folks to chime in first though. I've spent a lot of time contemplating 1440 performance and the 7800X3D CPU lately. Maybe let's find some benchmarks at 1080p for that build's spec.

i need to get in quick before she changes her mind ! :)

I hereby approve this notion. Buy immediately. If those framerates are enough in the benchmarks linked above, buy now :-)

Two more options have been revealed! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/853872

A 16gb GPU in the 7800XT, plus two free games!
    Or a 4060 Ti option 😁👍

Cheaper than previous deals due to older DDR4 I suppose

    • +1

Ended up going for the AMD Radeon RX 7800XT machine from this deal 😁 appreciate your help mate. Thank you.

      • Wicked! Sounds like the better value proposition, and 16gb of that juicy VRAM. Congrats 👍

  • Ah no, more choice…what do I do ?? ,😀
