Great jacket 👌Don’t forget the boots for $15

    • Do you know how to clean/wash these? The page doesn't mention any instructions.

      Not the same quality

      • +4

I beg to differ due is $50 cheaper than macpac. If the cost is the same between the two, macpac may be the better option.

      • +1

Issue probably isn't quality, its the amount of fill in the jacket. Macpac lists as 600 loft, no idea what the Aldi one is.

As an example, Northface has two versions, the 550 and 700. The 700 is just much thicker and warmer than the 550. From the photos the Macpac looks more like the 700, whereas the Aldi looks like the 550.

        • So does macpac one have 600 loft or 700 loft?

You said it lists as 600 loft?

          • @zorodluffy: Macpac is 600, it LOOKS like Northface's 700 in design.

Point is, there are different weights to the down puffers. The Aldi ones looks like a light variant compared to Macpac.

            • @dyziplen: Minimum 600 loft for Macpac, although when scanning the "Track My Down" QR Code found on the tags it came back verified at 700 loft.

            • @dyziplen: down warmth = fill power (loft/quality, insulating efficiency) x fill weight (amount)

I have an Aldi jacket, a halo and a heavy duty north face down jacket. I live in Canberra so it does get cold

The Aldi jacket is my preferred one when I'm just walking around and especially during the day; its lighter weight and you dont over heat.

if I'm standing around eg kids soccer matches at 8am or an outdoor function/concert or something, Halo is good for above 5C.

I mostly use the north fact overseas (ask me about -25C at Harbin…)

In any case, the Aldi jacket is lighter but I suspect most people along the east coast will get just as much benefit from the Aldi jacket as from the Halo. Its also a good jacket for overseas travel during shoulder seasons. However, its not as warm so if you just want max warmth or dont like layering, go for the halo.

      • +1

What's the heavy duty north face down jacket? I don't care about price. Just need the warmest down jacket that isn't terribly heavy.

      • +4

So tell us about about -25C at Harbin….

        • +7

          It was cold

Then you walk through the ‘airlock’ into a shop and it’s 20C and you spend 10 minutes taking all your clothes off. Beanie, ear warmer, balaclava, scarf, jackets, gloves. Over heat with the thermo underwear. Warm up and then put everything back on.

For the ice festival. Pretty amazing

Considering the amount of times this one going around Ozbargain, I think they should make an Ozbargain edition of the jacket.

    • +11

I would be 69,420% down for a ozbargain black outer, orange inner macpac hooded halo

    • what, with holes in it? for all those eneloops

come on, this is Ozbargain edition

      • Extra zipped pockets on the inside

        • +3

and one of those should whistle "jv in penalty box" tune whe you unzip it

      • Eneloops to heat the jacket further
Or stash all the free Olight torches

  • Thanks OP, picked up a jacket for the wife.

    • What about the wife’s boyfriend?

  • -7

super dry is way thicker and warmer.

    • +1

@dukeGR4 Any currently on sale for $99?

      • if you want long sleeve hooded it's $160 but trust me, it's worth the price difference.

i got the vest version and i would rather wear that with my arms exposed than my long sleeve hooded macpac.

    • But it has a lame as logo

      • +1

it's just an S now which is pretty subtle. it does feel more premium and expensive as the inside is lined with fleece, traps heat way better.

      • And Macpac has a cool logo?

Mate, we're not talking Patagonia or Arc'teryx (wicked cool logo btw)… we're talking bargain basement Macpac.

  • Would this be the best price has anyone seen lower ? Thanks

  • +1

With inflation, this jacket is cheaper than previous years'.

    • +2

The clothing segment hasn't been hit with Inflation. So please don't attribute inflation to everything. $100 is the actual retail price these jackets should be selling for. Anything over that is just jacked up prices.

      • The point being that something costing $100 a few years ago is, in real terms, only costing $90 today.

      • +1

You know these things don't carry themselves to the shops and sell themselves? Transport, labour and insurance costs have definitely gone up. Did you factor in any of that sort of stuff when you made your comment?

  • When did the inbuilt pocket-converts-into-bag feature happen? Got a hooded one a few years back that I don't think has this…

    • +2

Think I read on a recent thread these are now version 2, so probably then.

Which animal skin are you wearing this winter?

Shit you really took him down with that final, champ

  • What are the sizings like?

Could always click and collect and try it on instore and swap for a different size?

  • -4

This abomination should be $25 for me to consider buying.

    • +2

Lucky we live in a world of choice for the most part. Once you go black, you never look back maybe?

  • Serious question - this vs wearing a load of thick clothing in terms of warmth?

    • +3

Layering is good on the side of a frozen mountain but a pain in the arse getting into and out of cars and heated buildings where the temperature jumps around so quickly - easier just to take your one/or two jackets off to get down to a t-shirt.

      That's my take anyway. lol

    • Multiple reasons:
*One item of clothing vs many
      *lighter
      *more breathable
      *better range of comfort

    • Gotta say, after never bothering with puffer jackets since I didn't really like the look, I picked one up a few years back and it's become one of my most worn pieces of clothing in winter. The warmth for minimal weight is the best thing for me, and the biggest difference compared to heavy fleece/wool etc.

    • Can you please post the URL?

    • Not even close

    • Liar

  • Picked one up thank you!

  • Great price but I have never pulled the trigger on one due as it looks wrinkly compared to it's competitors. To all the macpac owners, does the wrinkly look ever go away?

    • Mine's gone now, roughly 1 year later. I hang it up and it seems like all the wrinkles have come out

    • I got the wrinkles out straight away with one of those handheld garment steamers.
      Kambrook Swiftsteam Garment Steamer https://amzn.asia/d/0iIEHPaD

      Works well.

      • Thanks for tip. I gotta buy one, but do u press against the fabric? Or dangerous might burn the delicate puffer?

  • +2

    Thanks bought.
Threw a couple of trinkets in to bring it over $100 and got $20 off for new member sign up.

    • any suggestions?

    • I ordered without seeing this, damn! Would've been good to include this tip in OP. Still a decent buy..

      • Ordered another one and used voucher. Will cancel 1st order tomorrow morning 😁

      • I came back to tell you this if it worked, I also didn't see the code, I sent them an email through the contact us if their website and asked for a $20 refund, saying you didn't receive the code until after you purchased.

Confirming the $20 refund just arrived in my account (after a couple days waiting), go ahead and give it a shot!

        • I ordered twice that night. Used voucher on 2nd order and cancelled first next morning

    • +1

      Thanks for the $20 tip!

    • Can you post the code?

  • Is the woman’s jacket true to size? Or is it better to size up?

    • +1

General advice on these is size down.

    • Wife is usually a 12, when we picked her jacket up today she swapped it to a 16 to accommodate a fleece underneath it. The 16 with only a t-shirt underneath still didn't look too big on her. YMMV

  • Cheers OP. Snapped one up

  • Thanks OP. Just bought one.

  • What’s the sizing like? Do they tend to run big, small, or true to size?

    • +2

picked this up last year for same price from BCF, i feel like they run slightly big compared to other brands. iirc, others had similar comments.

same size as my kathmandu it feels slightly bigger. Best to find one and try on instore

  • Thanks OP, finally grabbed the ozb puffer jacket.
