    I bought the tickets to Hong Kong, 2 months ago at $900 each. I tried to cancel online (then rebook) and all I'm going to get back is $500+ from $2000. I think I got the non-refundable ones which was cheaper at the time. Anythig else I could do? Or do I just accept it and move forward.

      Ah well good to know. I'll accept it and move forward. Also for the future, would it be better to just get the flexi flights and wait for a sale. I've been looking 6 months ahead, and it's only now, 3months away, that I've seen a good sale for Hong Kong. What are people's thoughts/experience on this? Booking more expensive flexible tickets in hopes for a sale closer to the date.

    As a teacher it would be swell if we got a break during the holiday period…. We literally can't take time off during the term so we're stuck paying quadruple the prices during school break. Who knew so many students could afford holidays -_-

        Yeah I mean a "break" as in "catch a break" with flight prices. They are never on special during the holiday periods. So we're forever doomed to miss out on specials and have to pay 3 times the amount because it's the busy season.

        Didn’t think of that. But these dates have been on sale previously, just missed them. I’m happy to go anywhere around mid Sept which is before school holidays, and come back early Oct. Can’t bring myself to pay $1400.

          Japan is a beautiful place and even at $1500 would be great value.

          I'd think of it as one of the best times to go considering the Aud-yen rate where you can easily get fantastic meals for under $10 and see other sites for cheap as well.

          Saving $500 or so is nice but the experiences are worth so much more than that. If you're in a position to, just book at the higher price and you won't regret it! Make sure to avoid any flight specials on here after just in case though.

      Depends where you are going and what day, there are some that are only 2.5 hours or so for Tokyo and Vietnam.

          With Singapore airlines, yeah. Would cost you that much if not more with jetstar lol. I wouldn't pay that for a weird layover that's like late at night / overnight or something though, too inconvenient for me.

      Layovers in Singapore in Singapore Airline is free, just select the stopover when booking. I once done a 4 days layover before flying to Thailand.

    If these sale dates don't align with your travel I've found that converting velocity to points to krisflyer miles and using on singapore airlines is pretty good value. just over 70k velocity points converts to 45.5k miles which is a flight to or from japan from major cities + taxes (if you book early enough)
    My return trip to tokyo is partly during school holidays so not in the cheap ranges posted here but costing 141,000 velocity points and about $200 in taxes
    Virgin on same dates wouldve been 241,000 velocity points + $200 taxes

    Vietnam Visa for few days is coming so expensive!!! Why they don’t have an option for few days as minimum they show is for 1 month and it’s nearly $100 per person!! $400 for a family of 4 to stay for 3-5 nights. Anyone been there recently who can share their experience please?
