Can recommend. Upgraded to this from a K-Mart unit two years ago and is a definite improvement. Just note it's the Philips 'essential' entry-level model and has been on the market for some time now.

    • +1

What advantages does this have over a Kmart one of the same capacity?

      • +2

I found it cooked the food much more evenly and the basket two years later is in nearly perfect condition. The K-Mart one was starting to peel and wear out after about 12 months. Always hand washed as well.

Amazon has the white model for $169.14 with coupon.

Philips Essential Air Fryer with Rapid Air Technology, 1.2Kg, 6.2L, 2000 Watt, 5 portions, White (HD9270/21) https://amzn.asia/d/0e0yvTtB

Was hoping it'd be the XXL version.

I bought the 9.6L aldi airfryer and it's awesome. Has a glass window too. Only $99 bucks and better than my sisters ninja in my opinion. It's massive, fits everything.

    • +2

What's the max temperature on the 9.6L aldi air fryer

I have been using the kmart 9L air fryer for awhile now and it is perfect for everything

The only thing it can't really do is pork belly roast because i need more than 200C which the kmart is maxed at

The ninja af300 and af400 can do up to 240C which I'm looking at just waiting for a sale on it leaning towards the larger 9.5L one because I think i can't go down to a smaller one now that I am used to 9L but yeah if the aldi or ninja can reach over 200C then it is already an upgrade for me

So what's the max temp for the aldi one

Edit: looked it up and if it's the same 9.2L on the aldi website it's max temp is 200C so same as the kmart 9L one so damn looks like only ninja and another grill one that can do up to 260C are the only contenders for super high heat recipes

      • Yep 200c is Max. I did pork crackle in it the other day and turned out fine at 200c. I find this aldi 9.2L has really high air flow compared to my previous kmart 6L ish airfyer.

Most pork crackle recipe are 200c on airfyers anyway. Airfyer is a dry heat so don't need such high temp. Watch YouTube videos.

        • I think my technique needs refining then because getting the perfect crackle has been eluding me lately.

          • +1

@AlienC: I sometimes just take skin off the pork after it's cooked and finish it in the airfyer by itself. Don't want to overcook the pork. If that makes sense.

            • @mckayver: That is actually a genius idea. Never thought to do that but I guess it works.

Yeah getting the pork just right is hit or miss for me I feel like I have a better than 50% success rate but have definitely had overcooked pork before.

The last pork I did the crackling did not take off at all and i had it under 200C air fry for a very very long time.. I only put vinegar though on the skin I think what I forgot was to put some oil on the skin that or maybe i pierced the skin too deep.. I used a fork most of the times for the hole punching part.. Quicker than a knife for me

First time I didn't season the pork at all this time and it wasn't that bad.. Definitely felt better for me because less salt

Don't waste your money on expensive air fryers I have an Anko (Kmart Brand) 5.3L air fryer paid $89 been going strong for over 3 years now and I use it almost everyday

    • I've had a Kogan one and instant pot vortex and feel they perform almost identically. The basket tray on the vortex has lost a lot of its non stick coating and it's not even a year old.

I use sponge daddy and wet paper towels to wipe it down and clean it. I think those two things have contributed to the basket tray wearing out.

    • I have the same Kmart unit and mine also works flawlessly over the 3-4 years I've owned it. Also got a 10L one from the spotlight deal for $60 and it has been amazing.
Philips are just overpriced for a device with the most basic components that all air fryers share.

    • Yep all the cheap ones work fine only reason you ever need to get the higher end ones is if you want temperatures over 200C which only some models do for stuff like pork belly roast to get the crackling

So far I'm looking at ninja af400 for a 240C up to range and still large 9.5L twin basket

      • Our 10L Spotlight one does crackling perfectly and it does not go over 200C :-)

        • +1

          Jealous what's your secret :)

Do you add vinegar or oil at the end

          Tell me your secret

I can only get very small parts to crackle

And usually the pork looks close to death to achieve that

          • @AlienC: To be fair, my mother is the one who has cooked it (twice) in our unit since we got it. But I haven't asked her what her method is.
I'll find out and get back to you ;-)

          • +1

@AlienC: Do you dry out the pork belly in the fridge overnight? I found this helped the most

            • @sahh: yes i have tried both drying out in the fridge and vinegar and i find this to work the best

currently i am testing boiling the belly first and it seems that this is good if working with pork from frozen

at this point in time it is mostly experimentation and trying different methods until one sticks out

the fridge one seems the best but it also requires the most time because of the overnight drying process and thawing required where as just boiling it then air frying it at 60 minutes for 200C gives an ok cook but yeah the crackling is still hit and miss

          • @AlienC: Plenty of YouTube videos online

use a jaccard or a knife to poke holes in the skin without piercing the meat, leave in fridge for 12 hrs or longer.

heavily salt the skin with very coarse salt, cook for an hour in a foil boat, remove salt, brush skin with vinegar, further cook until skin is crispy.

    • We've had the same one for a coupe of years too. Pretty much used on a daily basis, some days multiple times, without missing a beat.

Only issue we've had is the basket occasionally falling from the holder without pushing the release button. But in all fairness to this machine, it has been dropped a couple of times when being transported to other's houses for use.

Having 4 kids, and using it so much, I've been considering replacing it for the Kmart twin model. 🤷‍♂️

    • +1

Does it has contain polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in it ?

    • I also have the Kmart one and will not be buying a Phillips however family members have the Phillips and it runs almost silently.

My Kmart one is super loud

    • My baskets has been peeling for a while and the handle broke a few months back.
Was good for 12 months though.

  • Heads up, the control module that this model uses is beyond frustrating.
I'd happily pay $100 more just for digital knobs or analogue controls.

    • not the best, I agree(especially the presets) but you can just press temp arrow up, time arrow up and hit start

  • +3

Had 2 cheap Amazon air fryers over the years, picked one of these up the weekend. It's so quiet compared to the other ones.
Seems to go alright, it's small but I loaded it up right with a heap of chicken skewers in Jenga formation last night and it got the job done 👍

  • Guys , what's the best method you use to keep these clean? Not just the trays, but the heating element and the insides too?
There's so much oil caked on and I want to start over. Clean it up and have it as good as new.

  • +1

This may be 1/2 off RRP but it's been sold for $200 for the last year. I have this model. The comments are right about the controls they are a bit tricky but over all a good model, the next step up with Philips is around $500.

  • +2

What is the actual size of this in litres? This post links to the Big W website which reports that it's 4.6L, however when I go to the actual Philips product page, it says 6.2L.

Also note that this product is discontinued according to the Philips website: https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/HD9270_91/essential-airfryer-…

  • I bought an air fryer from Woolworths last year, but not this brand. Now, I see rust marks on the tray every time I use it. It looks like the frying pan isn't actually stainless steel. Can anyone recommend an air fryer with a stainless steel pan and a good non-stick coating?

  • +1

I've had mine for 6 years. My sister used it at service part of a funeral to cook vegies. She said it went non stop for more then 8 hrs as we have a large family .. they were just batch cooking vegies. She was amazed and so was I .

I recommend it to everyone. I use mine daily for steak as it's faster for me to cook it in the airfryer and get ready for gym/work. I'm not a fan of pre cooked steak that's left in the fridge for a day or so . Nseber used any other preset. Have cooked whole chickens, pork and lamb roast in it. Came out tops!

  • How's the non-stick on these?

I have had 2 air fryers, both of their non-stick trays started to flake off.

I'd be happier if they were stainless steel so could continue to use them.

I still use one of them but line it with baking paper.

    • From my experience, better than the K-Mart model I had previously. Two years on it's pretty much perfect. Never put them in the dishwasher though.

      • Thanks for sharing.

I don’t put them in the dishwasher. It doesn’t clean the baked in grease anyway.

I usually clean by pouring leftover boing water into the bowl with detergent and letting it soak. Brushing it is then super easy

    • None of them last, buy a silicone basket for your airfryer.

      • Yeah, will pick up a silicon liner with holes in it.
