Seems like a decent price for this security system. Not an all time low.

for optical zoom and better night vision?

    • +1

I can see the appeal but if you only need it for 1-2 of your angles, then maybe buy them separately.

Could also consider the 1224a which is 40% right now . https://reolink.com/product/rlc-1224a/ no zoom but 12mp and color night vision.

Incidentally the CX810 is about to come out in Australia. You might also want to wait for that instead. It's not a turret though. https://reolink.com/product/cx810/

      Comparisons here. https://store.reolink.com/poe-ip-cameras/

      This bundle has 820As.

      • This bundle has 820As

No, this bundle has D800's - they have the same hardware as the 820A but have different (worse) software that makes them useless without a Reolink NVR - which might not matter to you since it comes with a compatible NVR, but it's nice to have options.

There is a similar package that comes with 4 x 820A cameras instead, but it's more expensive.

I've seen this bundle at lower prices before - not a wonderful bargain IMO.

        • Ah, I wasn't aware they were different. I had bought 820A's separately and forgot what they were originally. That does change things a bit cuz of the lack of vehicle/people detection. And the 820A's can be gotten from reolink-official for 690 right now. Far better deal.

I run this at my place for a year now

    • upgrade to a 6TB HDD (this is the max internal storage) for 3 weeks of recorded footage. You can add another 6TB via external eSata for 6 weeks
    • audio and video is pretty good in day time
    • motion on video blurs due to being only 30fps, don't expect this to track moving license plates, especially at 5m distance away.
    • no problems with weather so far

    Notes:

    • the cameras in the bundle are firmware locked to work only with Reolink NVRs, meaning you cannot run it standalone with other things like BlueIris. I deliberately bought separately for this reason so I can run the cameras through a PoE switch instead.
    • for obvious reasons you need to have a cat5e+ enabled house to make the most of this bundle

Ive upgraded to 12tb, gets you 6 week footage with 4x 4k cameras at standard bitrate.. works fine despite Reolink saying 6tb is max thay HDR cam support.

Get a 7200rpm drive like EXOS, its sped up live footage and recorded footage load time.

Dont waste your time thinking you can use an external drive with esata… last i checked it was near impossible to find a sata to esata cable

      Person/vehicle detection works flawlessly

      • That's REALLY annoying because I decided on 6TB precisely because of this 🤬 good info thank you.

        • No worries. Sorry i should clarify that i upgraded with an exos becuase online reports (on reddit) indicted people had the most success upgrading larger than manufacturer specificed limit of 6tb with an exos drive (some brand drives didnt work). Mine is an Exos X14 model with 12tb… ive seen reports indicating you can go up to 16tb

      • I updated to 12 tb as well.It works fine but is noisy AF.

So I bought external drive and use this 12 tb with frigate to record 24/7. Also kept this external drive on bubble wrap base to reduce noise.

    • Hi mate, looking for a small security system for my gf's cafe. if its alright to ask you a couple of questions

is it fairly straightforward to upgrade the hdd yourself? you just open it up and plug it in? Do you need to format it to a certain format?

How much extra did you spend buying the cameras seperately from the NVR?

when you have the cams in a seperate switch, can you add more than 8? how many did you end up having?

Layout of the cafe is pretty good, there is only one way in as its' down an alley, so thinking 2x cams covering the alley, one covering the till, one covering the backroom

      Thanks for any advice :)

HDD was straightforward. The NVR chassis is essentially empty. Just dismount the old one chuck in the new one. You DO need to have a HDMI display to set up the NVR with the new drive - I can't recall if format was required but probably.

I can't say about how much extra, but I got it on sale via ebay reolink-official as I had available vouchers which DID work out cheaper than the website (which wasn't on sale at the time).

Total before vouchers was 478 + 337 4 cams + nvr for 765. Currently with ebay coupons it is 693.

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/393833929441?var=662462369580

I have NOT tried getting more than 8 cams, but specs say only 8 regardless of wifi or poe. https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/10354119558937… this would be a limitation on the chip itself I believe as it needs enough juice to handle more than 8 chans. If you are going to get more you should get the RLN16-410 instead.

How much extra did you spend buying the cameras seperately from the NVR?

I've been collecting mine separately over the past 18 months or so as they come on special - I have a weird combination of cameras to suit my needs in each location.

One of Reolink's strengths is that they have a wide variety of hardware to choose from, but they all work with each other and with Home Assistant, but they can also work with other ecosystems or independantly if that's what you need.

Do you need to format it to a certain format?

The NVR's own operating system can format the hard drive for you - it's just a matter of going through the menus.

when you have the cams in a seperate switch, can you add more than 8?

No, 8 is the maximum number of cameras it will work with, regardless of the combination of direct vs switch connections. If you want more, you would need to get the 16 or 32 channel NVRs.

Hey just realised that this linked bundle are for D800s not RLC-820As.

https://reolink.com/product/rlk8-820d4-a the equivalent is 769. Making the bundle for 690 with coupons on ebay a far better deal as it comes with Person detection making it easier to review footage.

    • I thought it could take 2x internal 6tb. Is this not correct? I've been running it with 2tb. 4x 4k cams and 2x 2k wifi cams for a few years

      • I thought it could take 2x internal 6tb

Pretty sure only the higher models (16 and 32 channel) have space for additional internal drives. This one has only one bay for an internal bay (already populated) and an eSATA connection for an external one - both of them have a 6TB maximum.

someone above got it working with a 12tb seagate exos. Not officially supported, at least. Can't imagine why though. It's not like the filesystem wouldn't support it.

    • That's a lower quality camera. Only 5MP vs 4K

  • It's saying $733 now, is the 629 price expired?
