      Just ordered one online.

If you have multiple stores nearby try cycling through different Officeworks stores via the "Your store is" option on the right.

Example, can see "Buy it now" button light up and allow purchase and click and collect for several in NSW with a lot of stock (2s, 3s, etc) at each right now available for purchase.

    • I purchased online and returned it instantly after pick up as it’s too big and takes up too much space.

Good deal, could order one but dont really need a new printer. Nice find either way

  • Does this have refillable ink tanks?

    • +2

No. It uses cartridges, albeit large ones.

      • I was fooled that they used inktanks. I rarely print color but the ink was drying up on my unit. Is this normal?

        • Yes printer ink dries out, it's one of the pros of laser over bubble jet.

Though… bubble jet makes nicer prints, laser is more expensive and precise, bubble jet has more problems with ink buildup and pads, etc, etc.

        • Colour might be drying out because they are rarely used. I guess, nozzles should be given a flush every now and then by printing something using all colours.

          • +2

@Crimzic: They need a "rare use" mode, where it flushes cleaner through the print head and allows you to not use it for months on end. When you do want to use it, it primes the head and gets itself ready, taking longer than usual - but it means you don't use any ink over the period it sits there.

Frustrating, I rarely use my printer, but when I do, I usually need things like double sided printing and scanning etc etc.

    • You can use compatible cartridges. You can also buy the memory chips for these cartridges on aliexpress.

    Ewwww ink jet

    • +1

Better for colour and photos arent they, some people need that use vs printing mass text.

      • +1

        What is that? Brother?

      • +1

On normal paper laser is actually better quality, ink soaks into the fibres and bleeds whereas toner is a plastic that is melted on to the surface of the paper. This decreases colour saturation and sharpness.
To get photo quality from ink you need expensive pre-treated paper.

        • To get photo quality from ink you need expensive pre-treated paper.

That's great, but there's no way to get photo quality from laser, so this is a pointless statement.

If you need to print photos, a laser printer is useless.

      • get one fb mp for half the price

Shame it doesn't have duplex scanning.

Excellent deal OP, thank you for posting.

hmmmm… dis don't do color aye and no scan?

There are other A3 Brother printers on Officeworks for simillar pricing using different LC-432 ink cartridges. Watch this to see the difference between the cartridges and why this printer with the LC-436 cartridge is better.

Dont really understand of the INKvestment part….

    • +3

You are INKvesting more money up front for larger ink tanks, and you will be INKcredibly annoyed if they dry up before you get to use them.

    • the documentation suggests the cartridges are filled with a flowing liquid that then drains into an internal tank.

When you first open the box that looks true the cartridges are fully transparent and liquid flutters around
when you insert it, the machine showed a display refilling tank and started draining those cartridges
Once i look at the cartridge now after setup, a portion of the liquid has disappeared into the mythical tank

The management page lists all separately
      Estimated Ink Level Cartridge
      Magenta Cyan Yellow Black
      Internal Ink Reservoir
      Magenta Cyan Yellow Black

Yes, it is marketing, but it must have a genuine purpose, because ink jet I have had before involved cartridges needing to be close to the paper,

but this printer I guess uses these reservoirs to keep ink very close to the paper because it prints out whole page of text quicker than my previous laser brother printer.

It's basically a temporary cache storage for fast random access to ink for quick response and less overspill.

I imagine like carburetor vs fuel injector in transport
carburetor (cartridges pours to a print head on demand)
vs fuel injector (extract a specific amount from reserve)

  • Amazing deal…
assuming the carts are the full XL versions..

    they are worth $400+

    https://www.inkstation.com.au/4-pack-brother-lc436xl-genuine…

the third party ones are around $150+ for a full set..

Cheaper to buy a new printer, than a full set of XL cartridges..

    • Cheaper to buy a new printer,

Except the RRP of this printer is $900 - the $300 price was a one off clearance 😁

    • +1

I opened my one up today - it seems to have the full size XL cartridges if the model numbers on side of cartridge are to be trusted so it's ~$430 worth of ink in the box.

Makes the $900 RRP make more sense as I was trying to understand the main difference between this one and the $299 model that officeworks sells other than a larger LCD screen, different colour plastic bezel and 2 year warranty opposed to 1 year

Thanks, I bought one and picked up yesterday. I've been waiting for an A3 printer for drawings/plans which need colour also A3 scans of markups so hopefully this will be just what I've been waiting for.
