HP Zbook Firefly 14A G10 14" Touch Ryzen 5 Pro 7640HS 16GB, 512GB W11P64 3YR WTY $1399 + Delivery ($0 PER C&C) @ Arrow Computers

70

Basically a HP Elitebook with a beefier CPU. $100 less than a previous ZBook 7840HS deal posted some months ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/822417. However, appears the higher end Ryzen business grade laptops are more expensive these days. Not the most powerful workstation around town, but excellent office workhorse. • 16 GB DDR5-5600 MHz RAM (1 x 16 GB)

    Ram is upgradable?

    • Yes. with the exception of 13.3" and tablet style laptop, all HP elitebook/probook are ram upgradable. Which Lenovos T P and L are not - they are changing with the new gens to make ram slots available again.

      • Are you saying lenovo are changing back to upgradeable ram?
        But not on X, e.g. X1.

So this deal has a touch screen but not 180 degree rotatable into tablet mode, is that correct?

        • +1

Seems like it. Newer T and L are with dual slot. Purely dumb idea to charge an arm and a leg for 32GB and only to offer soldered ram option.

  • 7840HS vs 7640HS makes up some/all of the $100 difference

    • Yes. Though, no 7840HS/U in the $1.5K bracket on a 14". No idea why. Asking for the ZBook 7840HS is anywhere from 1899 - 2000

45% NTSC at this price point is a massive dealbreaker, although other specs are nice.

    • Only alternative is really the Lenovo L, T or P. All are well over the 1.4k price point.

TBH, the matte screen makes 205nits bearable and any decent graphics work will utilise an external screen.

Not sure why AU is always dumped with the worse panel (HP Lenovo are the same) and charged a big premium than overseas.

      • Lenovo one could still find some decent ThinkPad models with good screens when they offer deep discounts for around this price, but you gotta wait or hunt for these when they happen. sometimes it's not obvious, and certain (non-default) configurations reduce the price, and it can be only on the Business or Education storefront, so ymmv

also sometimes Dell Latitude or Precision laptops with good panels are dropped at about this price range, but once again have to hunt for these and know the waves on the corporate market those are aimed for

boy, Dell still offers the options to supply Precision or Latitude laptops with horrible TN HD panels (1366x768), I am not kidding. and companies order that. some companies really don't want their employees to enjoy life. glad I don't work there

        • HR: We cant do this as a form of disciplinary action, Fair Work won't like it.
GM: Ask IT to give them a new Latitude laptop reserved for privileged employees.

          • @Chinese: haha yeah happened to me. I got a laptop reserved for "privileged employees" and all of the options given had horrible 45% NTSC panels, including said Firefly. thank god one of the options was a ThinkPad X1 and that had a palatable panel. I left the company 3 months later anyway

    " 35.6 cm (14") diagonal, WUXGA (1920 x 1200), touch, IPS, anti-glare, 250 nits, 45% NTSC"

HP is notorious for putting inferior panels into ZBook Firefly's. I kinda like the line-up designs, but those awful screens.. they have no place in premium laptops in 2024
