Seems like a great price for a newly released QD-mini led TV from TCL.

  • Is it better than Samsung Qn90D?

    • +2

I was eyeing on TCL one for a while for more local dimming zones and dolby vision support.

      • I hope the Dolby Vision is updated since the 845 (which I have). I find the Dolby Vision on the 845 very yellow.

        • +5

The Dolby Vision mode is accurate. Everything else is too blue.

You see it when people take photos of their TV in default settings and post on social media. Just blue.

          • @tp0: Movie mode is the wat to go! Removes all over the top corrections

    • +1

Online reviews say yes but in person i say no. the Samsung looked much better (in store), with sport playing so it was a good comparison (although i couldn't see them side by side, i had to walk from one to the other) and i'm going with the Samsung. The pic looked more vivid, smoother and more realistic colours. Having said that, the TCL was still pretty decent.

      • +8

unless you changed the screen profile to standard you can’t compare TV in store in their retail mode. They crank up the brightness and saturation.

    • +18

I've been burned too many times by samsung's glitchy firmware, bad build quality and horrible return/warranty claim process to ever trust them again.

      • +2

        horrible return/warranty claim process

        Horrible, Horrible, Horrible….

      • +2

        Same.

I find Google TV better to deal with for app longevity compared to Tizen. If you use the Plex app then there are issues constantly reported with Samsung TVs on the Plex forums.

Aww shoot! Paid $3090 inc delivery from JB Hi-fi a week ago and thought that was a great deal. Oh well…

    • +1

      How is it?

      • +1

Still in its box. Currently assembling a humongous TV unit for it and installing a 7.2 and/or 5.2.2 sound system via Yamaha RX-V6A. Hopefully to get it all done on the weekend. 🤞

        • +5

If it is still in box (otherwise as well), you can always ask JB to refund you the price difference, considering you bought it just a week back I'm sure they will refund you the difference.

          • +11

@Trek: Mate, did just that a minute ago and the guy I talked to said yes that they will refund the difference. Yowza!

Now am gonna get me a 4K player. 🤗

            • @pacificstorm: Nice, njoy your new TV and player if you get it.. I have older model 75" TCL mini-LED TV with Yamaha 5.2.2. setup, even older model I have is awesome, now I'm considering buying this 85" latest model but may be after few months once prices go down even further..

            • +3

@pacificstorm: That’s a pretty good outcome considering JB still hasn’t even lowered their price to match HN. JB still has it at $3871 (as of 3PM).

              • @opt: Yeah, I’m not sure how this scenario makes sense. The only time they do this is if THEIR price has dropped. You can’t price match after a sale. The user got very lucky. I suppose there’s nothing stopping the user from returning the unit and buying it from HN if JB refused this considering it hasn’t been opened.

          • @Trek: Cheers. Must remember this!

        • Sounds like an endgame level system, congrats! What size is the space you're setting this up in?

  • +4

Can also price match it with Appliances Online and get free delivery - https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/tcl-85-inch-c855…

Added bonus of not dealing with HN

    • +2

      +1 for the no HN

  • Bought! Thank you. Price matched at JB Hifi 👌

    • Also can get extra 3% off with gift cards

I purchased my 85" leading into the Black Friday sales last year for $2668… I must admit I love it… I think it's a great TV… In saying that I don't have a keen eye for every little colour change like some people do…

It was a few $ hundred cheaper earlier this year than what I paid last November

    • +6

Assuming that was for C845, as the C855 wasn’t released until this year?

      • Yes sorry… I was talking about the C845

  • Good guys have suddenly hidden all stock
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tcl-85-inches-c855-qd-miniled…

    • was in there earlier asking about this tv and the guy was carrying on about how there was no stock anywhere and Harvey Normal wont have stock either…

      • +1

TGG is owned by JB who have stock

  • Any reviews for this tv on youtube yet? Can't seem to find any reviews anywhere.

  • +3

No brainer if you're in the market for an 85" in tv. I have the previous model and 75", only regret is not getting the 85".

c845 is excellent, and this new model has higher peak brightness, more dimming zones and a much faster processor.

    • Same for me.

  • this or the hisense U8 (~$3300)?

  • +1

Price now back to $3871 @ Hardly Normal

  • Anyone got a copy of their jb order?

    • Mines scheduled for delivery tomorrow from JB. Got it matched this afternoon. I can provide details once it arrives.

      • Hey did you end up getting your order?

      • Hey - could you please PM me the receipt as well? Looking to get one :)

  • One thing I noticed about the 85 inch C845 (2023) vs the newer C855 and C755 (2024) models is the power consumption difference.

    C845 is 1300 kWH/year , C855 is 940 kWh/year , C755 is 660 kWh/year.

    • Not sure if that's accurate for the C845. Appliances Online says 1300 kWh/year for the 85in but 890 kWh/year for the 98in which doesn't sound right.
Other online stores say ~800-1000 kWh/year for the 65-75in models.

Edit: Ignore, seems like the 85in just has much higher power consumption than the other sizes for some reason.

    • Ignore power consumption, they’re tested at max brightness, which for these TV’s is obscenely bright

      • When I check the power consumption of the entire house at night, it still doesn't come close to the claimed output of the TV. I hate it super bright though.

  • Missed it, but how much better is OLED compared to this? And is OLED worth the extra $$$$?

    • +2

LG C1 owner here. To me nothing has ever compared and come as good to OLED and I am very picky. Quite a lot more expensive, but imo worth it.

  • +3

Could anyone share their invoice of this offer? I will try my luck at my local jb store. I am looking for a good tv offer for some time. Big thanks.

  • Missed a good deal! It will be appreciated if anyone can share the invoice. Cheers
