Sennheiser HD800S Open Back Headphones $1899.00 (RRP $3099.95) Delivered @ Sennheiser

Alrighty, since a few people (rightfully) pointed out that the Closed Back HD820 headphones I previously posted about are pretty poorly reviewed, I returned the 10 I bought and bought 10 of these cans instead. Here's one for the TRUE audiophiles.

To be able to use it, you'll need a 2k DAC and a 2k amp, then replace cable to something exquisite, replace ear pads to something premium lamb skin ones etc Subscription like Tidal HiFi is required 😂

Don’t forget power. Hydro power is too cold , nuclear plant power and solar battery power is more warm.

Recently a friend of my told me that audiophilia is a brain disease, he's got power conditioner and what not lol

    • +1

I disagree—these headphones require a high quality DAC.

      • +3

        Maybe an r2r 😂 or a unicorn

        • +3

Gosh, I have all mentioned above, including the particular brain disease!

    • Tidal 😂, more like a Studer reel-to-reel tape recorder to listen to original masters.

    • Tidal is a scam, MQA is not lossless.

      • +2

By some miracle they have announced they are completely removing mqa. Not just like the replacement program they had before. https://support.tidal.com/hc/en-us/articles/25876825185425-U…

        • Whoa..

@buyer-123: I know. Same reaction. So glad they did this and can now move on from all that bs

            • @HaydosK: But at that point why not get apple music? I think it’s cheaper than tidal and also offers lossless.. I assume lossless is just available on more tracks..

              • +1

@buyer-123: Apple music is my main streaming service and that's what I tell everyone but they still think it's lower quality because it's a mainstream streaming service not an audiophile one lol. Its all about marketing.

Hot take - I don't think these headphones deserve to be pushing $2k on sale. I bought a pair for ~1400 last year and I still feel I overpaid. They are great don't get me wrong, but the design is ancient and the profit margin on these has to be eye watering.

$1.8-1.9k was the regular price before they jacked up the RRP to $3.1k in an attempt to make these seem more valuable than they actually are. They drop to $1.9k regularly, every couple of months, otherwise no one buys them. By listing the RRP in the title, you are helping their marketing team execute the anchoring effect.

It's not a 3.1k headphone, not a deal at 1.9k, and arguably not even a 1.5k quality headphone these days. I got a pair for 1.44k from the deal last year and that's still a little overpriced for what it is.

You have literally described every luxury brand/jeweller/high end desirable vehicles there is at the moment. Demand is skyrocketing and pricing is out of control.

Unfortunately all these companies have consultants who get paid too much to tell them to chase profitability over volume to make it seem exclusive.

I agree with your sentiments, and the only thing we can do is vote with our wallets.

I'm still rolling with Woo Audio WA22 (purchased 8 years ago 2nd hand for $1300) with my HD650

      • Woo Audio WA22 is a killer amp! I used to rock the WA6 with the Sophia Princess and loved it. Just out of curiosity, have you tube rolled with the WA22?
