  • What is a great paid for VPN alternative to the junk nord/pia/etc that is advertised everywhere.

    • +9

Mullvad is prob one of the better ones out there. If you want something better, you'll be better off self host on oracle cloud, only 1 location per account, takes like 10min to set up.

      • Mullvad is one of the better VPN's (i use it) however for streaming it probably isnt one of the better options (i dont use it for streaming but heard plenty of stories issues using it for that purpose)

        • Yeah, its not specifically supported but it mostly works

    • +3

      What's so bad about nordvpn?

    • +3

      Windscribe

    • I use ExpressVPN which is great but a bit pricey. The second best one would be surfshark. Totally recommend that one. Plan to shift to them once I'm expressed out.

    • mullvad and windscribe are both fantastic in my experience. mullvad for true privacy, you dont even need an email to sign up

    • i hear good things about ovpn. It actively advertises streaming support, which most vpns don't do.

haven't tried it myself though, but have it bookmarked in case I ever do need it.

    • Pm?

    • +3

      Enlighten us.

      • it's probably the more illegal route.

    • Xtrix?

    • I can watch it in douyin without vpn. But I dont know to cast on my tv yet

Great post, but links to some deals on VPNs would have been handy!! Anything that works well on phone (android) via mobile data would be awesome.

    • +1

It really depends on which country you would be interested to watch. There are so many VPN's. To name few:
      • NordVPN
      • Surfshark
      • PIA
      • Windscribe
      • HMA
      • KeepSolid
      • Tunnelbear
      • Urban
      • Avast
      And many more….

      • Any that work particularly well with an android on mobile data…..?

        • It really depends on the location you are after. The majority of these would work fine on android on mobile data. It's just some have better speed and location accuracy on specific countries.

      • Avoid PIA.

        • I'm currently with PIA. I personally found they aren't great for streaming (if that is your priority), but in terms of speed, reliability and geo-locational options they are serviceable (had no issues).

    • I've been using Nord for awhile now. There's stacks of codes around making them very cheap to sign up to

Working brilliantly on 4g plus home WiFi (in conjunction with pihole)

  • Does BBC and ITV work with any vpn?. Remember vaguely there were always issues with those two…

    • Same. I've tried to get both working last night/today with a UK VPN and cannot. Best I was able to do was watch past highlights, but not a live broadcast.

    • Both work fine for me using Nord on firestick and android TV.

      • I also tried this and did not work for me. Did you do anything special like reset the firestick to factory settings or pair your firestick with a UK amazon account?

        • +1

No, didn't have to do anything special. I've got Nord set to London Server.
Did you try through the iPlayer website rather than using the app see if it works for you? hen you make an account on the iplayer website use a London postcode. E16 4AJ i used.
I've done same with ITV on both app and websites.
          https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
          https://www.itv.com/

    • Both work fine on apple tv using getflix smartdns.
Have used it for years without a prob.

      • How did you put bbc and ITV apps on Apple TV? Do I need a British appstore account first?

  • I tried BBC last night to watch SUI v. HUN, but there was no live telecast. This morning there was a full replay of ESP v CRO available to stream. There was also a full replay of the opening match GER v SCO on the first morning on BBC iplayer.

I will try again tonight for NED v POL on both BBC and ITV. I'm trying these ones first as they carry English commentary.

      • Very helpful indeed.

Do you know which of the two will be carrying the R16 games onwards?

        • The schedule for the R16 it's not yet available. But it will be easy to get. Just a quick google search.

Also for people that had issues connecting to BBC or ITV1, there are so many options of free to air channels.

    • Watching POL vs NED live on iPlayer now with Nord VPN no issues.

  • +6

Managed to install the TVNZ app, and with a VPN it works fine.
If you have trouble with the app on mobile device, just set your timezone to NZ.
If you install it on your Chromecast, works fine if the whole network is on the VPN (if your router supports OpenVPN, then it's reasonably straightforward with Nord).

    • Unable to stream live this morning, anyone else have issues ? Watching via SRF at the moment.

      • Yea same, the app works with VPN and device time set to NZ, other shows and live channels worked but not the Netherlands match last night.

  • +2

    for free at ARD/ZDF

    Great list thanks.

I use NordVPN to regularly connect to BBC iPlayer. Works well on my laptop and my Android mobile.

    Essential for MoTD!

  • +1

The Swiss channels work without issues, best is: for Android even their app is installable and streams work fine, chromecasting also working if vpn installed on cast device.

The short highlight vids are anyway also for free on the Optus Sport Youtube channel.

Stremio for movies/shows and 1pixMedia for sports and tv. It’s the best setup I’ve found so far so unit I hear of a better one I’ll keep running this.

    Also try

    1. Live Sport & replays via the MediaFusion / ElfHosted addon… https://stremio-addons.netlify.app/ is the site for stremio addons. (credit to deboinair99)

    2. 1pixMedia using the Wuffy Player instructions… https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/comments/1cf0xzl/spor… - plenty of sports options but does require a bit of fiddling around so read carefully and follow instructions for set up.
This also has BBC and ITV live TV portals included but suggest use of VPN.

I set this up on my Nvidia Shield and believe me I am not that technical but it works.

    Hope this helps…

      Also try https://www.fullreplays.com/

Shows full matches on demand and also highlights of each game…

    • how are the quality of the streams?

      • Excellent - just click on link, choose a game and try one. No signing up process required

        • Wild thanks

        • Thanks - sorry I think I replied to the wrong post but I was querying the quality of the stremio add ons you mentioned. Are those excellent too?

          • +1

@value hunter: I've only watched replays via the media fusion app and they have all worked a treat, but I did watch the FA cup final live via the 1pixMedia app and VPN and that gave me the full ITV coverage without any issues.
The 1pixMedia app has a range of different sports channels streaming live from all over the world so its a bit of a one stop shop with plenty to go at - but not all are functional all of the time.

For me, the Euro's is about the inconvenient time difference, so avoiding the media first thing in the morning and logging into the full replay website of the games I want to see is a simple as it gets.

            • @harveyworld: How do you find euro 2024 replays via mediafusion?

              • @FeZZa21: In my situation I find the football content display at the bottom of the Stremio display menus and click on the game I want to see.
All the elfHosted Mediafusion sports replay options are displayed at the bottom as this was the last add on I installed via Stremio.

Sometimes you have to click on the game image several times and wait for the file to show, and on others I set my VPN to say USA or UK and then the file shows up.

So far all the Euro games have been listed to watch on demand.

Another alternative on the web for replay options is https://footyfull.com/

                • @harveyworld: I found the section "football - movie" but clicking on a match it gives me that fat cat with "no information found" message. Can you send a pic of where you're selecting match replays and do I need to select a specific category in the media fusion config during the add-on installation?

Edit: it's ok I pressed back and selected again a few mins later and it works now

    • Tried 1pixmedia, it was adds every few clicks, nothing worked.

  • And for the cricket fans.

The ICC is also broadcasting the T20 World Cup live and free on ICC.tv, available in the official T20 World Cup app in over 80 territories across the world, including Continental Europe and South East Asia.

Point your VPN to a country that isn't listed, https://www.icc-cricket.com/tournaments/t20cricketworldcup/f….

    • Prime Video is something most people have as an alternate option without requiring VPN?

      • I don't. Used to have Amazon Poland for $20 but even got bored with that.

      • How does it work with Amazon Prime , I got a prime account and can’t see anything regarding the euros ?

        • They were talking about ICC Cricket.

  • +1

Thanks I did it with rtve Spain and works great using Expressvpn

  • Thanks OP, good deal. I think I'll just pay for Optus Sport for the month though.

  • Good post. Wondering what good option for the upcoming Olympics will be. Been with few iptv providers but so many to choose from. And most crap service from Australia and buffering too bad. Any good ones?

  • Australia keeps selling everything worth anything to the highest bidder. It should be illigal to have to pay to watch our national teams play.

    • +9

I don't think Australia is eligible to play in the European Championship

      • Nah i was talking about the others, Asian & World cups.
We may be able to view only the games our teams are playing, but no other games from the cup. Pathetic

        • +1

You can watch Australia for free at the World Cup. It costs probably $25 to watch them for a month at the Asian cup once every 4 years. As much as I appreciate the point you’re trying to make, if that breaks your budget you’ve got bigger issues in life to worry about.

  • +1

Copa America is coming up as well for those interested.

  • Why can't Surfshark vpn bypass BBC iplayer? It used to before :(

  • +4

If you can handle watching the games with Greek commentatary
you can download Greek TV app on Android tv
and watch ERT without a VPN

  • +1

    Great, comprehensive post. Thank you.
Hope you could do one for the Premier League and I can finally ditch Optus. 🙌

  • ExpressVPN and watching England, through RTE (Ireland), no issues and don't need to create an account.

  • Am I missing something here? After going through VPN, itvX only shows some classic matches and highlights, not current live matches…BBC is asking me to buy a TV license :(

Can anybody point me to the itvX link for live matches? please?

    • Pretty sure BBC & ITV are splitting the coverage, not all games shown on either channel.

    • I wouldn't invest my time to make it work. Choose another option from all those free-to-air channels. Some don't even need to register an account.

    • Forgot to buy your telly licence‽ The King will see you locked up for such offenses, with bail set at 10 pounds sterling or 2 packs of crumpets/English muffins

      • "TV Licence enforcement officers will be at your doorstep anytime! Watching TV without a licence is a criminal offence!"

    • Just tell them you bought a licence. At least, that is how it worked for me last year. You just click yes when it asks if you have a licence and that is all you need to do.. unless they changed it now

  • is there anyway to watch it in 4k?

    • As far as I am aware, none of the games will be broadcast in 4K this year. The BBC iPlayer feed should play in HDR (HLG) though.

  • Thanks so much for all that info

  • Is the NZ channel broadcasting all games?

  • If you have an Amazon Fire TV Stick, just install the LiveNetTV app.
VPN is not required. There are at least two channels in the Sports tab that broadcast all matches, one of which is in Italian.

I cant verify this but the App would also work on Android TV.
