  • looks like a good deal. Whats the report for ?
    They are a good brand.

    • Cracking deal for a system like this !!!

      • +1

No idea how they perform but a 5.1.2 is a theatre set up.. 2 downfiring speakers is awesome for Dolby Atmos, what about the rear speakers ? Ceilling mounted is not the same deal as floor standing rears

        • It is far from idea placement, but some people have their surround speakers ceiling mounted. For some rooms and aesthetics it is the only practical option.

          • @AutomationGuy: Agree with @AutomationGuy ! Not many have the "perfect room" nor the space for rear speakers either being bookshelf or on wall. In Ceiling gives you the clean look whilst also producing the cinematic experience.

            • @WCHIFI: @WCHIFI Would it still be better to go the rear speaker option if the couch is right on the back wall? There is a window ledge immediately behind it that can put bookshelfs on, but is that too close to the backs of peoples heads and I'd be better of with the ceiling speakers?

          • -1

@AutomationGuy: 2 grand plus is not a budget speaker system.. Klipsch is a good brand and ceiling mounted speakers are optimised for down firing..every room has to have a wall by definition, a rear wall which can accomodate wall mounted speakers is a given .. I agree that for some rooms do not allow for floor mounted surround speakers but mounting rear speakers on the ceiling because thats what the package came with it is sillly ..and mounting these on a wall would be silly since they are not designed for it

            • +3

              @shaidas: Nobody mentioned budget.

Again, I'm with you… I moved my front door 400mm off the back wall so I had room to add a console with ear-level surround speakers. But not all people have a back wall to their lounge (open plan living etc) and suspending surround speakers from the middle of the roof looks silly in an open plan living area.

Quite simply, for many people, ceiling mounted speakers are going to be the only practical, significant-other approved install location.

            • @shaidas: Ceiling mounted surrounds in the right spot work great, much better than being blasted direct into the ear with side mounts. Most media rooms aren't large enough to create enough distance. Go into any cinema and pay attention where the surrounds are, they're mounted up high and a good distance away.

If you position them 30cm from the corners, you get that dipole speaker effect by using the reflection off the corner walls.

Your atmos speakers are then more toward the middle of the room to create enough separation and you set them more in line with your fronts.

It works amazing when done right.

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/785050 seems to be identical to this deal from last year but with ceiling speakers instead of bookshelf speakers and free delivery.

    • +1

That is only for a 5.1 pack not 5.1.2 pack. Getting Atmos capable as opposed to just surround.

  • +4

I picked up a set similar to this from WestCoast HiFi back in 2022, I can recommend it as a good starter set for those who want to graduate past a simple Soundbar and move into a proper HiFi system. For the price-point and considering the speakers you get in it, this is a really good deal.

I had it shipped to Metro Victoria along with an AV Receiver and both were received quickly with no damage.

one day my ancient 7.4 sony muteki setup will die and i'll grab one of these. one day.

    • +1

Sony Muteki is one of the highest quality speakers in the world. It is only beaten by $500,000 home theatre systems. Don't sell yours. Keep it for life, it's the best.

        sarcasm?

        • Same question here: Sarcasm?
Honestly don't know about speakers and can't tell if serious.
from a quick Google, Reddit seems to Sh!t all over Mutekis ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • On the same boat as you, 17ish years old they just keep on going

i’m still stuck in the era of stereo , who needs sub when you have 12” bass drivers …. but is til time to upgrade to better stereo.

Kplisch are known for bright sounding speakers

  • What reciever will pair with this, under $1000

    • +2

Denon 1800 or 2800 should work well, denon are on sale at the moment.

      • I have the 1700H and it's gutless to power the Klipsch. You need a beefier unit.

        Yamaha RX-V6A

Ditto. Bought this for $791.20 from Mobileciti eBay and is arriving tomorrow. Will be connecting my Dali Concept Series (have these speakers for a decade and still sound great) with it.

This Klipsch deal is mighty tempting. Must resist though. I must!

        • +1

I’ve owned my pair of Dali Concept 10s, 4 Concert 2 bookshelves, and Concept Centre speakers for 16 years now, I bought them in April 2008, and they’re still going strong… They are connected to Emotiva XPA-2 and XPA-5 amps which run through a Denon x4500h AVR (the Denon powers 4 KEF Q50a Dolby Atmos speakers and the Emotiva’s do the rest), I’m considering upgrading from the Denon but I’m not sure to what yet.

I have always been fond of the Dali Concept series. I did upgrade from the Dali Concept’s a decade ago, in 2014 I purchased brand new Paradigm Studio v5 100 floor standers, 4 Studios 20s for the back and side surrounds, and a Studio CC-690 centre speaker, unfortunately they didn’t work out though due issues with quality control and them having severe scratches in the finish. As much as I do love the Dali Concept’s, I do wish I hadn’t had a poor experience with the Paradigm’s and still owned them.

      • Was hoping to see some Anthrm AVM love this EOFY

        • @Astronaut Joe reach out via DM or email for Anthem AVM love :)

  • I purchased this a week ago from wch, albiet $50 more! They sound great.

I also picked up 2 klipsch rear speakers giving me 5.1.4 (though I've decided to stick at 5.1.2 and use the spares in ceilings in another room for music)

Some enthusiasts don't like klipsch, but when on sale like this it's impossible to beat that bang for buck, i tried. (Also added bonus they look great)

    • Also they arrived by courier ridiculously fast!

      • Great to hear it arrived quickly and you are happy with it mate :)

    • +1

Did you repair 2 speaker sized ceiling holes after installing them?

  • I have a setup similar to this (5.2.2), and while I agree that it's not a recommended setup for Atmos, (the ceiling rears bleed into the atmos speakers, rears should be ear height), it still sounds fantastic.

My loungeroom is open plan, and I have glass bifold doors behind the couch. I could have put in pole mounted rear speakers behind the couch, but honestly I can't be arsed moving them each time I want to watch a movie, it's just more clutter in the open plan.

My only concern here is that my roof mounted atmos/rears are angled speakers but these appear to be straight down firing.

You could place the atmos speakers from this deal directly overhead and they would sound good, but the rear in ceiling downfiring should be angled toward the listener.

  • Hi Guys. Need some help here. I am a old school i beleive you need a reciver to run this system. can someone (Techguru) reply me with the link. please

Yes you need a receiver. Here are some options that people have selected for the pack.

      • Looking for good power AMP e.g. Elektra HD2, for my LCR. any good deal you have?

  • How do these compare to a Yamaha NS555/NS333/NSC444 setup?

  • Genuine question guys, how different are these speakers compared to Samsung 11.1.4 ? I get the basic difference like ..number of speakers, speaker location, type etc my question is more related to sound experience….

    • +4

For Atmos at least, the soundbar Atmos setups rely on soundwaves bouncing off the roof which doesn't give nearly as good experience, vs Home theatre atmos setups which have the speakers in the roof facing you directly, you hear the effects much better.

Soundbars are generally placed under the TV and hope for the best with room acoustics vs home theatre setups where you can carefully plan your speaker angles and get a true surround sound experience.

When we're watching movies, the cats often look at the ceiling where our atmos speakers are to see where sound effects are coming from.

Overall soundbars are quite decent, but it won't compare with a well designed home theatre.

      • Don't forget the fact that unlike soundbars, big speakers needs a receiver. I wish they make more active big speakers. I think sooner or later that's be the trend - less cables for the win.

        • It's diminishing returns, too - one of my workmates used to be a HiFi nerd, and his soundbar system (Sonos with surrounds) is apparently close enough to his old Dahli setup (though that was pre-Atmos), minus the wires and manual calibration (which is especially finicky if your room is an odd layout).

Having said that, I'm certain a properly calibrated set of HiFi speakers would blow the doors off a soundbar system - but the ~$1k needed for an Atmos compatible receiver alone convinced me to get a 930C on sale ($800), and I'm happy to live in ignorance.

    • +2

A 990D (or c/b) holds up really well, and for the price can't be beaten imo.

I had a good 5.1 system (slightly higher end than this deal) and was suprised how well a 990b replaced it. My big speakers now live in the alfresco area and the soundbar holds up well for the tv.

Music sounds better from the big speakers, but for movies the soundbar probably wins.

  • Question: how/how much to install them?

  • Any deals for just the ceiling speakers?

  • +5

Soundbars are babies toys, and beyond entry level in no way do they come close to the quality of separate audio components.

  • I’ve been using use this set up for the last few years with the rear surrounds instead of the ceiling speakers and love it.

The single 10” sub wasn’t enough for me as it’s in a large room (50m2) so I hooked up an additional 10” sub I had lying around and now it’s much more balanced.

If you have the space I’d highly recommend.

  • +1

After hearing Klipsch for about 8 years, I moved on to Kef R series. Even the movies sound so much livelier, the effects sound so immersive.

Made to move for music, not the movies. Music is on another level.

This one is only good for movies, maybe good for atmos music if you have access to it.

    • I've owned a Klipsch 5.1 setup for a decade, a while back had the pleasure of hearing Martin Logans and recently had the chance to listen to entry level KEF speakers. In my opinion, Klipsch speakers excel in home theatre setups. Due to their strong bass and sharp top-end due to horn drivers in many models, I agree that they can sometimes lack subtlety and finesse. Their sound signature tends to be bold and upfront rather than nuanced and expansive, which may not suit listeners preferring a wider soundstage and more refined sound quality.

      • The good thing is that they're 98db sensitive, almost any avr would play them loud enough for movies. Meaning you don't need a beefy amplifier.

Horns are like wave guides, my experience was that you have to be in the line of sight to be in the sweet spot. Meaning, you move your head tiny bit and you're way off course.

    • agree. I have a similar setup. decent setup for movies at this price but the towers (mid-high range) are mediocre for 2.0 music setup

  • needed a couple of speakers for my PC so bought some klipsch r40 - older/cheaper model

for me the horn tweeters on the klipcsh (R40) were exhausting, i couldn't enjoy it after a while

ended up relegating them to surround sounds and swapped in q-acoustics (2010i) for the PC, crisper and much more balanced, an absolute pleasure to listen too

also i may have blown the r40s somehow, one developed a vibration at certain frequencies, could be a manufacturing fault as i never really pushed them, fortunately it doesn't present itself when used as surrounds or at least i don't notice it

  • So if i swaped 2 of the in ceiling speakers out for some rear bookshelf speakers and paired it with a half decent amp, this would be considered a good mid level system?

    • Yes. Half of half decent amp would play these loud enough.

  • Any projector deals to go along with it for a 'basic' home theatre setup for 100-100 inch screen? cheers!

    • Look at the Epson TW7100 that is the go to for a decent value for money projector :)

      • Any further deals possible if im grabbing the system together with an Epson TW7100 and a receiver? Might pop into a store tomorrow, cheers!

        • Pop into the store and see if they can squeeze anything further for you :)

  • Assuming use of a Denon AVR-X2800H, what is the correct placement of the four ceiling mount speakers? One in each corner of the ceiling? Two in the centre of the ceiling and two into the wall behind the the audience seating? @WCHIFI

    • @fleetfeather you would mount one in each rear corner to give rear surround and then two in an Atmos type configuration with left and right top middle.

Here is a link to a Dolby configuration. Replacing the rears with ceiling.

      https://www.dolby.com/siteassets/about/support/guide/setup-g…

      • Legend, thanks mate. Might have to wait for a future rear bookshelves deal as my open plan room simply can’t accomodate two ceilings on that 110-120deg corner angle - I’d need something free standing on posts haha

Edit: or on a swivelling wall mount

  • Any deals on the Klipsch Reference R-50M Bookshelf Speakers . Would like to add these if possible to the same deal and get posted at the same fixed rate .

    • There is currently no stock of the R50M currently however if you reach out via email we can work out some rear bookshelf options for you and ship under the fixed rate.

  • is the old offer last year still available? Just want a simple 5.1 setup.

  • Time to install my ceiling speakers upwards in my apartment and get revenge on my upstairs neighbours.

    • How would you install ceiling speakers in your apartment? The ceiling structure is generally common property managed by the strata, so you can’t cut holes in it, you might be able to install brackets to hang the ceiling speakers from though.

      • One of my LED downlights that are recessed into the ceiling structure went out. I asked strata who was responsible for this, to which was told I am.

By that logic, installing ceiling speakers in the same space should also be my responsibility.

        • “By that logic…” You have definitely misinterpreted the situation and meaning of what your strata has said. The lot owner is responsible for maintaining light fittings and fixtures inside the lot… Strata would still need to give their blessing for said downs lights to be installed though.

If your down light/s were installed after the building was built then permission would have been required from the strata to install the down light/s, the lot owner can’t just cut holes into the common property ceiling. The same applies if you want to install ceiling speakers. And even if strata granted you permission to cut holes into the common property ceiling for installing ceiling speakers, it would be quite costly for the lot owner, because the lot owner would need to have the holes cut in the ceiling for the speakers fire safety sealed otherwise they wouldn’t comply.
