27” Monitor for Home Office

I am after a 27” monitor for my desktop home office.

I need something with good clarity of text etc, easy on the eyes as my vision isn’t the best. Nice bright colours, not dull.

No gaming, just office work and web browsing.

Any suggestions please?

    • Thankyou. I will take a look at Dell.

I saw the Lenovo ones that were mentioned on here but missed out. I also wasn’t sure whether a “gaming monitor” would be suitable for office work. Not sure what the difference is.

If you buy a gaming monitor, you're going to be wasting money on specs/features that will never be used, so just keep that in mind

Gaming monitor features are mostly irrelevant for office works, not more suitable or less suitable. I would ignore that stuff.

The main thing to care about for text clarity is resolution. At 27" you want one that's QHD (~3.6 million pixels) or UHD (~8 million pixels). Most of the cheap ones will be FHD (~2 million pixels) which at 27" isn't good for text, it will be pixellated at small to medium font sizes.

I would pick a Lenovo D27Q for $200 (https://www.centrecom.com.au/lenovo-d27q-30-27-qhd-va-anti-g…) (QHD) or Philips 27E1N5800E for $314 (https://www.centrecom.com.au/philips-27e1n5800e-27-4k-uhd-ip…) (UHD). Most stores like Officeworks or Centrecom should have monitors on display for you to try out, ask them to show you a QHD and a UHD one and see how apparent the difference in text clarity is to you, ignoring the other aspects temporarily. If you notice a difference, get the latter; if you don't, get the former.

They're budget models but I have used both and consider them excellent for text-focused stuff. What they sacrifice is the stuff you don't care about — syncing to the framerates of games, leaving 10-millisecond trails during fast motion, etc.

Not much stock around at EOFY. Can you sit back far enough for a 32-inch? Samsung S7 4K $309

    • Unfortunately desk and office space wouldn’t be big enough for a 32

        Lenovo IPS 4K $297

        • No stock?

@John Kimble: Oops sorry, annoying OW glitch. Shows add to cart until you enter a postcode. A few stores around showing limited stock… which often means no stock.

        • How does that Lenovo compare to this gaming one (i know the gaming one is out of stock) -

In case the ebay one comes back in stock, would it be a better buy? It was cheaper than the OW one, but is it suitable for documents, office work

          • @BigMac2000: I would strongly recommend UHD (4K) not QHD

@sumyungguy: Thanks! I have ordered one from an OW. There is still some stock at various stores for click and collect only.

  • Viewsonic monitor brand. Recommend.

  • I got gigabyte 32in. Has built in KVM support. plus supports usb3.0 input.
