Just ordered a 12400f + 4060 gaming machine for my son. Would this be a suitable monitor?
He'll be mostly playing Fortnite, rocket league and BF5 at this stage.

More than adequate for the requirements.
If you want gsync to work then the laptop needs to be able to output the 4060 through display port (USB C) with a mux switch. Otherwise the laptop might be outputting the 4060 only via HDMI which this monitor doesn't support VRR. But of course it'll still support 144Hz via HDMI.
It's a desktop, so we'll be using display port.

Rtings says the R27q-20 is better so I assume the R27q-30 is also better
