Apollo Ghost Dual 1000W Electric Scooter $1499 + Delivery ($0 Underwood QLD C&C) @ iScoot

60

I bought this in store the other day and thought it was an excellent deal. The reduced price is now reflected on the website.

The Apollo Ghost is a rebrand of the Titan VDM-10, the same as the Bexly 10x, Carbon OXY 10 Pro, Dragon Raptor, and many others.

For this price you get the 52v 18.2AH Dynavolt battery and cable disc brakes. You can pay $200 extra for hydraulic brakes, but you can buy the hydraulic brakes for much less than that on AliExpress and fit them yourself, or just continue to use the cable brakes because they work fine.

  • MAX SPEED* 60KM/H*

Not legal to ride on public roads in Vic.

You should go stand in front of one the next time you see it going over 25 km/h, vigilante.

      • +4

I witnessed about 6 policemen in Victoria riding on the footpath on dirt bikes pulling scooter people over and fining the crap out of them.

        They love a good crackdown
No helmet got something like a ~$150 fine
Scooter which could go faster than 25kmh got excess of $1,000 fines

        • Wow where was this? I’ll need to avoid that area.

          • @nightelves: Near the Marvel stadium, seems like they were working their way through the city

@Headless: Oh right thought it was the western suburbs. Lucky.

      • big police blitz a couple of weeks ago…

will be happening more frequently in future.

this reminds me, our laws are so stupid.

forced to use a road at 60km/h, with a scooter not allowed to exceed 25.

yeah, safe. Talk about trying to set it up for failure…

      • -5

I'd rather that, than the e-scooter riders mowing down pedestrians…

      • Agreed - our laws are so stupid. 60 km/h on a vehicle that has not met any safety or engineering standards - all on tiny 10" wheels, with no indicators and very limited safety features.

It should be illegal to sell these.

Context: owner and regular rider of a 25 km/h "legal" model. Vehicles like these are genuinely super unstable when you hit a pot hole, even at lower speeds. I haven't ridden this model, but in my experience their speed is also severely impacted by hills and decent inclines.

        • What’s your reason for favouring a scooter over an ebike, say?

          • @0jay: Portability at the other end of my trip; I can tuck it under my desk

            • +1

@barge-in hunter: I have an eskate for similar reasons, easy to carry around a supermarket or whatever and no drama with storage at home.

There do seem to be some good foldables around though for strictly work commute but I guess your trip’s reasonably short

@jv: Yeah there’s conflicting documentation, isn’t there? Funny how that happens when there’s been rapidly disruptive developments

Very glad you’re here to police public standards tho, makes for such interesting discourse

The reason I have this overpowered model is so that I can get up steep hills. A 250W model would be useless to me due to my environment. This is the same reason I opted for a scooter instead of an ebike: ebikes are limited to 250w in QLD whereas scooters are only speed limited.

Maybe in Qld, but not in Vic…

think macrocephalic’s in brissie mate, get those hackles at a civilised angle

                think macrocephalic’s in brissie mate

                I never said they weren't

          • +2

@macrocephalic: I have an overpowered deck for similar reasons, though it’s my understanding that most cops’re unlikely to extend an interest to wattage/speed so long as you’re cooperative, not behaving like an idiot or clearly travelling above maximum speeds

              @0jay:

though it’s my understanding that most cops’re unlikely to extend an interest

              Your understanding is wrong.

Cops just follow the laws… If you want to 'gamble' riding an illegal vehicle, that is your risk and if you get caught, don't come here crying…

                How old are you, boy?

Cops (in fact) observe and enforce laws that are convenient to them given the circumstances. They have a not inconsiderable power called discretion.

Should cars be locked to 110kms ?

          • @akula: Why? They meet fairly stringent engineering and safety standards. Chalk and cheese

Not safe for human ingestion. Not to be used as a flotation device. Not capable of interstellar travel. Any other useless bits of information you need jv?

Have you tried eating one? or are you just sticking to magic mushrooms today?

For comparison, I priced buying one of these directly from the manufacturer through Alibaba, and for a single unit it was $1430 once you accounted for shipping and taxes.

      Also factor in Australian warranty.

      • Exactly. I was going to buy locally at $1800 just for convenience and warranty, but it was a big bonus when I turned up and it was reduced to $1499
