Superloop nbn Price Increase on 25/10, 50/20, 100/20 & 100/40 from July

Just got an email from SL saying in 30 days the price will go from $85/m to $89/m for my 100/20 FTTP connection.

A bit salty because only in April I kind of gave up doing the 6 month churn because sometimes it really bites with an average provider.

However I need to appease my bargain brain so seeking recommendations on another last ditch hop

EDIT: Called Superloop up intending to Cancel and they offered me $84 a month for 100/20 for 12 months. I'm happy with their service at $85 a month so my laziness means I'm staying for 12.

    They have 100/20 for $59/mo/6mo

Speed Promo Price Current Ongoing Price Ongoing Price from 3rd July
    25/10 $59/month for 6 months $65/month $69/month
    50/20 $65/month for 6 months $79/month $81/month

    250/25 $85/month for 6 months $99/month $99/month
    1000/50 $99/month for 6 months $109/month $109/month
    • wasnt there a deal recently to sign up with SL?

      • The promo price offer ends 2nd July. I don't know when the 2 months free for business offer ends.

  • +6

They are just passing on the NBN price changes. every ISP is doing this.

    • -4

      every ISP is doing this.

No, some have reasonable prices that you can lock in for 12 months.

      • -1

        LOL and after that?

        • +2

Switch to another provider that offers similar deals, or just stick with More Telecom that offer an ongoing discount to CBA customers.

    • +1

They are doing more than "just passing on" the NBN price changes if the amount goes up more than the NBN wholesale price.

For example, some of us were on monthly rates slightly lower than new plans because of legacy deals or maybe we just negotiated a good deal in the past. Superloop are not respecting those individual rates, they are flushing them out and raising everyone to the new prices.

  • +2

Can you cancel Superloop and switch just before the next invoice, or do you need to give them notice?

    • +3

      30-days notice.

      • +1

So you just need to schedule switching over with the new provider 30 days in advance?

        • Yeah you can do that or activate another provider anytime on a spare UNI-D port. Who are you changing to?

          • +2

@Twix: Probably either More or Leaptel…

It's not for me, it's for a family member on 25/10.

Currently paying $59.95 and going to $69

More has 12 month discount, Leaptel is cheaper but only 6 months for 25/10…

      • technically you dont need to,

you just need to pay them for an extra 30 days on your next bill after telling them you want to cancel their service

just saying because you may wanna do a port over within 30 days (and that is doable pretty sure). Like someone has an offer that is expiring and want to claim that offer within 30 days

  • +1

You have to feel for the poor schmucks being slugged $65 & $79 p/m for the lower tiers.

    • they should just ditch NBN altogether for the 5G home internet (if they are able to get that service)

      • I agree but it really depends on the area and availability. 4G was fine for a while here but the congestion makes it useless and no 5G.

  • yea, in the same boat with OP therefore will be following this conversation closer.

  • Saw this email come through last night and will be reviewing my options as well. After a quick search it seems my most economic option will be to switch to AGL and bundle with my current energy plans. Anyone have experience with AGL for interwebs? There's a few salty reddits so might need to ponder this one some more..

    • Just switched today, had it scheduled from last month. Scheduling connections needs a phone call. It happened around 1am with a short interruption in internet of a few minutes. Some people online seem to need PPPoE to connect but it worked fine with DHCP for me.

Haven't used it much yet, but noticed the ping in games is worse. No IPv6 and uses cgnat so avoid if those things matter to you.

  • +3

Already called to give my 30 days notice.

Will be moving to another provider with a 6 months discount and keep churning.

  • +4

Have been paying 65$ for 50/20 since myrepublic times and after superloop acquired them since then. Well time to start churning

    • Same - I’m not copping THAT much of a price rise

      • +1

Likewise. I've managed to get a recurring $5 credit on 50/20 after I complained about drop outs so I'm only paying $65/month - there's no way I'm paying $81/month for 50/20. Unfortunately, I don't live in a fibre upgrade area, otherwise I'd happily pay $150/mo for a decent fibre connection.

        • For now at least, I have actually upgraded to their Family 100/20 tier, which is $85 per month after July - so only $4 on top of their proposed price for 50/20. That will get me through to the next great 6 month churn deal.

  • +2

Got the same email - shame because their service has been pretty good and I like the boost days they give you - might go the Optus route for the next 6 months
Interesting that they mention 20 days notice for price increase, but require 30 days notice before you disconnect/move!

    • +2

I can't do Optus in good faith after their data breach. Same for bloody Tangerine.

I'm half thinking about trying Flip, but I honestly don't know if I can be bothered to churn this time.

    • I "like" the way the account is monthly starting 1st, but next month's bill comes on the 15th 😤

  • +5

    Not paying $81 p/m for 50/20…

Dodo's current 6-month discount across their plans is rather enticing - https://www.dodo.com/nbn

Has anyone had any experience with their service?

  • +5

Called Superloop up intending to cancel and they offered me $84 a month for 100/20 for 12 months. I'm happy with their service at this price per month so my laziness means I'm staying for 12, and potentially saved $60 for the year for a 25 minute phone call.

If laziness hadn't won I was going to try Pronto's 100/20 because 6 months at $59 a month is a significant saving.

  • +1

    $57 > $81 = 40% increase they can do one .. will be churning soon …

  • +2

I've been on 100/40 for $79.99 since 2018 with MyRepublic and Superloop since it acquired MyRepublic customers. Honeymoon is finally over.

    • Has your price not gone up once in December of last year already? I was with my republic for ages and after superloop took over this is my second rate rise in 6 months from iirc $69/month to $81 for the 50/20 tier… not happy

      • +2

Nope it has never gone up under Superloop for me. When I signed up with MR in Feb 2017 my 100/40 plan was $59.99. In May 2018 they increased their prices (50/20 for $69.99 and 100/40 for $79.99). It stayed that price until Superloop took over in Jan 2023 and my Superloop price has been $79.99 since then.

        • Wow, that’s interesting. Not sure if they adjust pricing by state or if it’s been just us, but in Dec 23 our price went up to $75 already. Definitely time to reconsider my loyalty to them.

      • same same.
Tried to switch to their 100/20 with $69 honeymoon but they didn't recogise my Qantas pay card so I ignored them. now they're say I owe them $1 and threatening "other action" to get it.
        Prolly "sendin' inna da boiz"

    • Same here but I was grandfathered from Skymesh 100/40 $79.95 and been around that price for ages. Now they want $95. Yeah nah.

  • Same boat. My current plan was from MyRepublic 100/40 which was $89/m.

If you are a CBA customer, you can register More NBN at $89.10/m after the first 12 months ($79.20/m) between June 8th and August 31st.

Not sure how to cancel my Superloop though…

    • +1

They require 30 days notice which sucks

      • Both Superloop and More NBN requires 30 day notice I guess? So the difference is probably just the price. Or maybe static IPV4 address if you have one.

        • Contract more last week to ask about cancellation but they said they do not require 30 days' notice.

      • +1

Requiring notice on a service you don’t cancel (just churn) is appalling.

    • Do you need to actually be a CBA customer or can you just grab a code? My plan was to get the code but I might be out of luck if signing up also requires the CBA credentials.

      • I'm not a More customer yet. From my understanding on the description, you would need to pay with a CBA debit/credit card to be eligible for the ongoing 10% discount.

  • I was instructed to contact the retention team on 02 9138 7948 when I indicated via chat that I was considering moving to a different provider.

    I'm actually paying 99-10=89 for the 250/25.

Haven't contacted the retention team yet. Wanted to make my mind about leaving or not in case they don't offer anything better. I'm actually very happy with Superloop and love the speed boosts, but will consider changing if I lose the discount.

    • Excetel is pretty much the same company, but different brand for superloop.
If SL doesn't give you a discount - excetel current promotion is $84 for 250/25. They also have speedboosts

  • +1

Just got the email saying the 50/20 Mbps plan price will change to $81.00/mth. Currently on legacy at $65. 100/20 is $89 but I cant upgrade as the landlord has refused to upgrade so I cant get anything above 50/20.

Never going back to Tangerine, anyone have other suggestions?

  • +1

Paying $69 for 50/20 not paying over $80 going to swap to the optus 100 down for $80 with bonus flybuys

  • Called them and they offered $76 for the 50/20 tier, for 6 months, without lock-in. Worth a call to 02 9138 7948…

    • For $3 more you get double internet speed 100/20 and $150 worth of Flybuys to redeem for GC's etc.with also no lock in. I just called and give them my notice.

      • Which provider gives Flybuys points/GCs?

        • Optus NBN deal theres also $90 (shopback) or $109 (Top cash) additional cash back if it tracks

          • @solidussnake: Can't stack Flybuys with Cashback it seems :(
I think I will go with superloop as it will be cheaper than Optus for now

    • Had a phone call with them nicely, and they said they tried but they had no better offer to retain me for 100/40 @$95. After being their customer for almost 2 years, I think it's time to try another provider then. 🫠

  • To port away from Superloop with a 30 day notice period, do I organise with them to cancel the service at the end of the 30 days notice and then make sure I sign up with another provider and port before that notice/cancellation date?

    • I'd like to know that too. I am seriously thinking of jumping ship, but unsure of the process..

  • +2

Just a tip, from someone who was never going to stay with them anyway, keep saying no until they offer you a 12 month discount.

The long and short of it is that they recently charged me a fee because my CC expired, which annoyed the shit out of me so I called them up and after speaking to a first guy from billing who was a complete tool lecturing me on making payments on time (when I've never missed a payment, my card had expired and every other provider except them just prompted me for new card details) I told them to cancel my service, got transferred to retentions, and they were very apologetic and gave me a $20 credit which never actually appeared on my account, so a week later when I got the price rise email it reminded me how annoyed I am with them.

So I just called them now and they sequentially went through every offer. First one was like $6 credit if I bundled a mobile service. Second was some other similar mobile service deal, third was a free modem worth $150. Fourth was a 6 month discount on my service and fifth was the same discount for 12 months.

After that he just gave up.

    • Lol.
      SSAAAAAMMMEE!

  • Mine said its going up from $65 to $81 as well but i just noticed it says "Monthly broadband charge"
    is $69?

  • Called them as well. Tell them you're planning to cancel and the price hike is too expensive. They would try offer you sim bundles, free router, 6 months discount. I told them I have free mobile plan from work and wife doesn't need it too and you have about the same router.

The final offer I got are:
    50/20 - $76 per month
    100/20 - $84 per mont
    For the first 12 months

Now I'm thinking which plan to go or shop other ISP.

NBN really screwed us up eh. They have the whole thing and can control the prices, if only the TPG offer is available to my address I would switch to that. I know it's been said that it's China owned, but I'm not paying the increase so I can say I'm supporting Australian NBN. Screw that!

  • +1

Just called the retention team and asked to cancel my $65 p/m 50/20 plan due to the price hike. No pushy offers, straight to cancellation. Have to appreciate the efficiency.

    • When does your billing cycle occur, or you didn't care about that? I had my service activated on the 25th of May last year (made the order on the 24th), so I thought I could give the 30-day notice now and move to the another ISP in a month, but have just checked my account and it's showing my current billing cycle started on the 20th of this month. So if I give them the 30 notice now, that means I'll be 3 days into the next billing cycle, and will be paying them for 27 days I won't be using (unless I'm missing something with their 30 days notice thingy). I wish I gave them the 30 day notice as soon as I received the price increase email from them. Now I'll have to wait for 2 months before I have to leave, as I don't wanna give away almost a month's pay for nothing. I'll make sure my next ISP doesn't have this 30 day notice nonsense in their T&Cs.

      • +2

I waited until my billing cycle was aligned, but from what I've read they charge a partial bill (pro rata) if the 30 days notice falls in between bills. So you should be fine to call up and cancel now if that's your intention. You can ask the rep on the phone to confirm that is the case.

        • Thank you. Will do that tomorrow. I'm a CommBank customer and wanna take advantage of that 35% off Yellow Member deal that expires in 7 days. If they do the pro rata then that will help as I was afraid I was going to fork out almost 2 months' bill if I got out now. Will see what they say tomorrow.

          • @AussieDaddy: What did they tell you? I made this mistake (I already switched services without realizing the 30 day policy). So now I am paying a full 27 days for their service despite being with Optus (I hope they don't have the same policy).

            • @creesy: I was a couple of days into the start of my current billing period, so I explained to the rep on the phone that I got a better deal (I actually said I'm a CommBank customer and will be paying almost $28 a month cheaper than the same plan I was on with Superloop for 12 months), so she understood and actually conceded they couldn't offer me anywhere near that price. She said they will make 21st of this month my last day, instead of 30 days from the day I called them (last Friday). I applied the CommBank code and made connection the date on the 15th of July, just 6 days before this one expires. I am OK with that.

              • @AussieDaddy: At least you didn't get stuck paying an extra month.

I learnt a lesson to read the terms and conditions lol I won't be back to superloop anyway.

I change providers alot to get the introductory offers most isps have, so superloop won't be one of them anymore.

I can understand how you can have a policy like that when FTTP connections are automated and don't require any work on either end.

As I've said previously it's just another way to lock someone into a contract without a contract in place.

  • +1

NBN pricing is a joke compared to almost every other country.
In europe I was paying $65 for 100mb

  • Just be careful when switching providers from super loop. They require 30 days' notice and will charge for a full month despite the cancellation. It's a sneaky way of locking you into a contract of sorts without actually having a contract in place.

I got caught by this and it basically negated any savings I would have got from changing providers (my fault entirely should read the terms and conditions closely)
