the display is 144hz not 120hz as per the listing, review on the verge is quite poor https://www.theverge.com/24088011/lenovo-legion-go-review

its around 25% heavier than the steam deck 640g vs 854g

    • Pretty sure it is 144hz

    • +1

That review might actually convince people to get one.

  • that's tempting !!!!!!

  • Get on this. Good deal!

  • Damn not bad.

  • +1

good deal, the screen is amazing

    • Same screen used on the Y700, which is somewhat popular here

  • +1

I bought one on the last deal from the Lenovo site, I love it

  • Bet this is better than ROG Ally?

    • Yes, but new Ally just announced which is probably better then the Lenovo.

      • $650 better?

    • +1

ROG Ally has one feature which all the others don’t have. VRR. This may be important to fluidity, especially as you won’t be playing at 1440p 144hz, but more closer to 30-60 fps.

    • It's got the same chip inside of it, the same amount of RAM and storage, but a larger screen, slightly larger battery. The controllers on the side are detachable and the main body has a kickstand.

Performance wise is roughly on par with the Ally, but has a few functional features that I like more than the Ally. Plus, I personally would trust Lenovo for warranty purposes more than Asus.

  • +2

The steam deck is much nicer ergonomically than the legion go. Legion go just seems a little too big for long sess though detaching the controllers seems to help a bit.

    • -1

Detaching controllers then defeats the purpose of a handheld pc.

      • -1

Indeed it does, and you have to find somewhere to rest it too.

    • +3

After being very keen to get a LeGO I went with the SDOLED. Being a console gamer and an Apple user I just wanted to play games rather then messing around with Windows. Plus a lot of people recommend this way too

      • Good choice. Well optimised and better battery life.

        • Which ever way, eventually like mobile phone battery depletion over time, they will all be tethered to a power socket. Unless you want to spend $$$ on a genuine battery replacement (not after market equivalent fire starters)

    • legion go has the awesome kickstand, I'll miss that on the steamdeck

  • I paid $1300 a month ago :(

    • Hope you kept the receipt…

      • Doubt Lenovo would accept. Already been opened and used for quite a bit.

        • +1

Start a change of mind unopened package return, and send back the brand new one when you get it.

Just need to check they'll accept before ordering the new one.

          • @illogicalerror: You Don’t think for a device like this they would check the serial number?

            • @peter05: I don't know mate. I've done it with other things that are pretty pricey, I don't know if it's a goer with Lenovo.

              • @illogicalerror: all lenovo laptops have a unique identifier showing when the device was shipped/manufactured and activated, tied into warranty etc. It would be strange for the returns department to not match the device serial, to the one that's shown on the build invoice, which lists the serial number of the device dispatched for that order.

I'd be surprised if it works with any of the OEMs that use unique serial numbers in their dispatch and ordering forms

        • You can always call them and speak to customer support. They will probably use the eBay discount as an excuse however you can quote the $1199 price online store. They may give you the difference, a voucher or at least something for recourse. Or nothing. It's worth a shot.

Got one of these not long ago and put my Steam Deck OLED up for sale. It's been great so far, especially running 2560x1600 144hz over Moonlight to my desktop.

The Steam Deck got annoying stuffing around to get anything non-Steam working, and Valve continues to blue-ball the community on Windows drivers for the OLED in particular.

IMO the only thing the Deck OLED really has over the LeGo is battery life, which I guess is to be expected using their own OS and the 1280x800 max resolution.

Also played around with a ROG Ally at JB Hi-Fi, and the screen feels tiny in comparison. The X isn't going to fix that.

  • +1

just a word of caution, Lenovo are slow to update their official drivers for the Lego. Also the LEGO is fussy with the charger used. I had to return my LEGO after it stopped charging, a full factory reset fixed the issue, but it was annoying enough that i opted to return it. Shame cause everything else about the device is great.

    • I think you just got a dud.

I use 3 different chargers and 2 different power banks and they all work fine.

      • Probably, but it was working fine until it didn't.

A quick search seems to show it's not that uncommon. But lucky we have good returns policies in Australia.

  • Man I love my OLED steam deck but this is tempting.

    • +3

      Huh?

  • +2

I have this, it's not bad, but it definitely needs more polishing. I give it a solid 7.5/10.

    Pros:

    1. Detachable controller
    2. Larger screen than your typical handhelds at 8.8 inches
    3. Unlike the Ally, SD card works flawlessly
    4. comes with a case for carrying
    5. It has two USB C's top and bottom

    Cons

    1. D-pad is the worst I have ever used. Very hard to press so if you play side scroller or retro, it will be a hard pass.
    2. Fan is quite loud and whines. newer models are better, I heard.
    3. Speaker is subpar compared to Ally's
    4. It is a heavy and bulky device.
    5. Legion Space is horrendous. I would take software made by any company, like Aya Neo's software is better than Legion's. It's sluggish, confusing and very user unfriendly.
    6. Uses 2230 SSD, hard to source.
    • +1

Handheld Companion is very good as a replacement for Legion Space

    • +2

      Uses 2230 SSD

Uses 2242 natively. 2230 with an adaptor.

      • Right, my mistake; what I meant was that 2242 is hard to source.

      • +1

I printed an adapter.. works great… otherwise a $15 adapter from aliexpress

    • I might be odd but I really like the dpad on mine. Clean and crisp presses. Doesn't feel mushy at all.

    • If you still have the LeGo, this might help with the d-pad. There's also a decent fix for the speaker and a way to use more common sized ssds.

Key take away if people are looking to buy this hand-held - if you like tinkering, want a big screen, and actually want to use Windows, the LeGo is pretty viable.

  • +1

Man, for under 1000 this is pretty good. Got mine for around 1050 after stacking a few deals and I am pretty happy. I am a PC Gammer. I was looking for a tablet or a large phone but settled for this because I can do almost anything on Windows. Screen is big and pretty decent for LCD. Yes it is fat and heavy for a "tablet" but I always carry it in a back pack so it's totally fine for my use case. Also Z1 X performance at this size is awesome.

  • Can this play squad by any chance

  • Thanks OP! A far cry from the OW $1499 price tag

  • I suppose any hardware improvement is limited right? How many years of gaming can a handheld pc last?

    • +1

Should be at least a few years. You can always drop the resolution down on newer titles

      • +1

Ok thanks. I doubt i will be able to fully utilise it in few years period. I am a slower gamer.

        • +1

I have read countless reviews on You Tube, here and the on net of which one to get … LG, ROG Ally, SD. They all have their up and downsides. I am a bigger person hence the hands, like a bigger screen and don't like to squint, good knowledge in Windows, don't care about tinny speakers (I have gaming laptops and sound is crap anyway apart from circa 2014 Alienware) so the LG is for me.

          • @vinni9284: If the new Ally X was more reasonably priced compared to these discounts, it would be the clear winner.

            • @cnut: Yes but many reviews go back to extremely poor Asus warranty support, actually by many reviewers, non-existant.

              • @vinni9284: Asus Australia has been fine. Most people got theirs fixed within a week.

Current models also have 2 years warranty now.

                • @cnut: The next iterration of any of these popular units should all have clear winning factors. You are comparing a product that is not released yet and is 40% more.

                  • @vinni9284: That’s why I said if. Otherwise even the current Ally is much better value than the upcoming one.

                    • @cnut: Going by reviews, it definitely looks pretty good. Most of the parts are modular (replaceable plug and play) except wifi card. The battery looks huge and obviously it's more refined. I'm sure they have sorted out the SD card issue by then. Definitely worth to wait if you have a current handheld. Another 6 months after release will save you more money.

                      • @vinni9284: Yeah if you can wait, that might be the best device to get. RRP is way too high when you can get a refurb current gen for nearly half the price.

I had the SD card issue but to be honest I never used the slot anyway and when I did want to use it and took it for warranty they fixed and replaced it within a week.

                        • +1

@cnut: Rule of thumb. Wait 6 months and get up to 40% off on many electronic items. Like this unit. $1499 (still at OW) and Lenovo is selling it for $300 off. When this gets release, wait for all the bugs reported and then get the revised model. Were are all indirect Beta test donkeys without getting paid for it.

Question to any of you who recently bought a lego directly from Lenovo online…. do any of you have a manufacturing date of 2024?

I believe the units produced in 2024 have the updated case, fix the fan whine and also fix the audio speakers.

If anybody who recently bought a Lego from the previous deal or when you receive your lego from this deal, if you could confirm the manufacturer date which is on the lego box or also on the outer brown carton box used to protect the main lego box that would be great.

I bought two units from JB both had 10/2023 manufacturer dates and both had issues.

Holding off till the updated 2024 units start to get released out here in oz.

I have a feeling Lenovo are emptying their 2023 inventory units to make way for this years "updated" units.

    Thanks in advance

    • +1

I just bought one in this deal. I assume that hopefully I've purchased the refreshed model considering it's mid year. I'll let you know if i got the older unit upon delivery next week. Regardless, i can live with the issues after saving $570 off RRP. Cheers

      • +1

        Awesome dude
Enjoy it. I had an ally and steam deck but the lego was just perfect. A bit chunkier but happy to compensate for the amazing screen. I had no problems powering through AAA games , just annoyance with the fan whine , audio issue and the loose controllers.

Please do let me know once you receive your unit. Enjoy :)

        • +1

          Will do!

        • Hi mate, I've just received mine 10 mins ago from DHL. I haven't opened it yet (as I'll be heading off for lunch) however it is dated outside the box 28-12-23. So practially a 2024 unit. Not sure if it has the upgrades. What should I look for? Cheers

          • +1

@vinni9284: Awesome. Thanks for the update. Glad you got the upgraded case.

            Enjoy your go

    • Mine arrived direct from Lenovo this month. Manufacturing date is 19th December.

Fan has a slight whine, but it's unnoticeable during gaming.
I don't appear to have the crackly left speaker issue.

      • That was a quick turnaround. Did you place the order yesterday?

        • +1

I ordered direct from their site on the 3rd as Shopback were doing a 20% CB promo.
          It arrived on the 5th.

      • Bugga.

Seems like the odd December 2023 units might have the new updated case. Do you have the newer version with the wider cut outs around the thumbsticks and in the middle or do you have the old case with the 2 circle cut outs?

They must be having so much stock that in June almost 8 months after launch they are still going through 2023 inventory.

        Enjoy your Go :)

        • +1

The case has the rectangle space for the sticks.

          • +1

@Feelsbad: Wicked. Thanks for confirming. You hit the jackpot and got the updated case. Well done.

            Enjoy

        • I’ve been trying to find info on this, but can’t find anything? Have you seen a reference image showing the case differences you can point me to?

Have ordered this, and asked Lenovo what model but they just said “We are unable to confirm which year the model was made as it will depend on the batch of stock in the warehouse.”

          • +1

@nebula9: AFAIK, going by the conversation above and not finding refresh info, it seems that the only indication is the carry case top lid cut outs for the unit. The old has the circular indentations for the jockstick thumbnails, where as the new has rectangular indentations. No changes in the physical unit. Mine is manufactured on 28th Dec 2023. Going by other posters after receiving their units, it seems we have the updated version and changes were not specifically in 2024.

            • +1

@vinni9284: So good! Thanks for that. Mine's in the post, so hopefully in the same boat.

            • +1

@vinni9284: Got mine delivered a short while ago. Same Manufacture date as above 28 Dec 2023.
The case has rectangular slots for the joysticks. I am assuming this is the refreshed version.

              • @bonechiller: Well done.
Looks like the Dec 23 onwards stock has the updated case.

Lenovo must be cleaning out their inventory to make way for the 2024 manufactured units.

          • @nebula9: Updated case in this youtube vid….

            https://youtu.be/YppP2ejn7_I?si=06HrznBtFy0LbdoT

            • @darkknightwayno: Thanks for that! Confirming I also received Dec 28 with the case that looks like this (rectangular cutouts). The thing is amazing.

  • Insane price

  • +1

OMFG finally bought one, will now probably remove the 4GB SSD in the Ayaneo and stick it in this. Like @darkknightwayno mentions, I'm hoping it's a 2024 man.

    • HAHA!

Yeah dude, am holding off, so damn so tempted with this price because my lego controller thumb sticks were also turning on the device every time due to the crap old case which has the small cut outs for the thumb sticks, the new case has bigger and better cut outs to address this issue also.

Please let me know what manufacturing date you get. All the units in JB/OW are mostly 2023.Visited a couple stores haha.

Great idea with the 4TB expansion, I used my 2280 - 4TB Crucial Plus from my ally in the Lego but swapped back out to a 2230 - 2TB because the 2280 kept disconnecting and giving me a blue screen every time and also performance was sluggish due to the overheating of the 2280 in the small confined space unless you do one of those back plate 3D Printed mods which I couldn't be bothered doing.

All the best and i am sure you will enjoy your Lego, it is truly a piece of work and honestly the performance is kickass especially having the ability to use Trainer's and Mods in game. Was cumbersome on the Steam deck.

      • Can't you just complain about the sticks and sound and get it replaced under warranty? I mean the sticks are removable. At least get some recourse. These are originally a $1.5K machine. Like a TV, ACL views this as a device that should last a respectable time frame vs cost.

        • Reading mixed results on Reddit regarding Lenovo swapping controllers and sending updated cases under warranty.

The audio crackling on both units I had were terrible and even tried a couple of the youtube fix vids without any luck.

There are mixed posts on reddit also regarding the "updated" units so who knows what is true and what aint. None of these companies (Asus especially) admit to a problem and an updated model might be mysteriously manufactured to fix the initial launch issues, I guess they stay silent to avoid a massive number of customer returns.

          • +1

@darkknightwayno: Regardless, you have purchased these units from JB right? Therefore it is under ACL and you can push these pr*cks! I would! These are a $1500 unit, similar to low end gaming laptops. If ithey under 12 months, I would contact them about the issue. They want you to sit on your hands and do nothing under warranty lapses.

            • +1

@vinni9284: All good dude. JB have gone above and beyond, they refunded me after i returned the second unit. No issues at all with them. Its not their fault I got two duds in a row.

I dont want to go down the path a third time sadly hence hoping to scoop up a newer manufactured unit if they do become available. Probably waiting, the Lego 2 will be around lol

Anyways keep me posted on your unit once you receive. Get ready for some long hours of gaming from the comfort of your couch :)
