Best Mobile Phone Contract to Qualify for Complimentary Credit Card Insurance

Hi everyone

Just reading the terms and conditions of the Citi Premier complimentary Mobile phone insurance and it says phone must be on a contract on the website (specifically: not prepaid).

"Monthly Mobile Plan means an Eligible Mobile
Telephone subscription where the Eligible Cardholder
enters into a contract with a mobile provider for a
mobile telephone and SIM or SIM only plan with a
monthly automatic billing arrangement."

I'm currently prepaid and used to churning a bit, but the free insurance is very tempting

Does anyone have personal experience if postpaid services like Belong would qualify?

Any recommendations on cheap low GB plans (<5gb)?

Aiming to spend under $20 per month, or it's not really worth the hassle

Thanks

Update: Moose mobile has postpaid and $10/month for 7 months (Optus network)

Amex allows outright handset purchase but data has to be post-paid. Excess 10% of the repair cost. A low-cost plan on a second sim it may be cheaper than Applecare+

i’m with Citi and Belong - such postpaid should be fine where contracts are monthly

    • Thanks that was how I read it. I was hoping someone had personal experience

Don’t think you should switch to a postpaid plan just to get free insurance

  • Postpaid means you'll be paying more either way, is that really worthwhile?

    • That's what I wanted to figure out.

      I bought a pixel 8 pro for about $900

Historically i have broken a phone every 24 months approx

I currently pay about $15 per month. Circles life have a $20/month plan. If I were to pay an extra $5 x 24 months = $120 extra cost for insurance over two years

The only postpaid I know of are Belong and Circles. There might be others that are cheaper

alternate between Belong and Felix every 3mths for average cost $16/mth?

      • Perhaps do the 25GB PM plan on Moose Mobile for the first 7 months and then switch to the 15GB PM plan for $19.80, if that's enough data?

  • You can claim a standalone phone purchase if you have a postpaid plan?

    I’m also investigating (Citi Prestige)

    • Any traction on your investigation?

      • No and I actually gave up - impossible to navigate the website and I moved overseas
