rather 6000mhz 32gb for cheaper (gaming)

    • Yep this.

    • Good spot, this didn't pop up on my price alerts since I was only after black.

CL36 and higher frequency too - nice.

    • I bought these at $245 a few weeks ago. Keep watching and you'll get lucky.

  • Wish we knew what the sweet spot is for amd Zen 5 CPUs next month. Same memory controler as Zen 4 too.

  • How do I get 192gb of ram with only 4 ram slots

    • 4x48GB dimms.

    • With centrelink money. πŸ’ΈπŸ˜

  • I have a desktop that is 64GB and one that is 32GB, can't really tell the difference…

    • Default RAM amount for DDR5 should be 32GB for 95% of people, the other 5% will know why they need more for specific applications etc.

      • Yeah, I regret getting 64GB

    • Depends on your use case really. For games, 32gb is plenty. For production work, the more the merrier.

    • Only some new AAA games are recommending 32gb at the highest settings, unless you're doing heavy video editing or any other production task that needs the ram, 32gb will last you till ddr6 ram is the new standard.

  • Just remember, your motherboard night handle it, but ypur CPU might not be able to do 6000mhz stable. I just did a 4090 set up earlier in the year. Bought 6000mhz expo ram. Turns out the 7800x3d does like 6000mhz ram, despite me having a really fancy motherboard. I dont care, system is faultless and it runs great 4800-5200.

    • @OMGJL this is where you come in.
      πŸ˜…

@BusMan247, does the bus in your name refer to the vehicle or computer architecture?

Did you mean the 7800X3D did NOT like the 6k?

I just got one too, bsod at 6.4k but running fine at 6.2k. Also Uclk div1 mode is not set to half speed.

      • his sentence doesn't quite make sense to me, but if it's not stable at 6000, first thing ever is to update BIOS

Hey gents, FSBusman here, but i updated the bios no issues there x670e mb. Its just if i set up expo ram it runs fine technically on 6000mhz, but my boot up time takes over a minute or more instead of 10 seconds. You can see a yellow light come on the MB while it thinks about allowing 6000mhz ram. I had a look, the 7800x3d actually is set up for 5200mhz max, but CAN run mich higher but may have other issues, like mine with boot ups. I spent money on M2 ssd for lightning boot up, the extra mhz of ram wasnt worth it.

@BusMan247: memory training requires time, especially at high frequency.

turn down the frequency of course shorten the training time required, but you'll also get lower performance.

sounds like a bad trade off to me.

if you like to shorten the training time,
you can disable the memory training, but depending on your luck it might cause instability.

            • @OMGJL: Thus was spot on my findings too, so i went back to normal speeds to get rid of the training time. Stability was fine at 6000mhz.

              • @BusMan247: i meant you can turn on 6000 and also turn off memory training, it'll boot much faster, but in rare cases stability will be awkward on cold boot.

buy a high-end pc, circumvent some performance just for the boot time doesn't make sense to me.

                • @OMGJL: I understand your POV 100%, but these days I need more time than mHz lol… I might only have 30 mins to play, so wasting 2 mins of booting up is an easy pass.

    • My 7800x3d is running fine with a non-expo 6000MHZ cl30 corsair kit, just using the xmp profile. You might have got really unlucky but RAM could also be faulty/badly binned.

      • Could be this. Or not fully seated? Undervolting?

  • Isn't the MHz and the CL both not that great by today's standards?

    • Yep. Utter crap. This is not so cheap, slow ram.

These babies were $350 for a short while today.
