~360'000 people went to the footy on the weekend, which is about the same as the Forumla 1.

I'd say a fair few do.

The Lions three-peat was the last time I regularly watched it, and I remember then as a kid the older generation saying how much the game changed and it had lost it's natural contest and was over-umpired. The game now is unrecognisable, insipid sport. I'm thankful to have seen the Hird/Buckley/Voss era and some pretty good contested footy, but I eventually swayed toward international codes that have largely preserved their rules and been fairly consistent over time.

Most popular sport in Australia by a mile…

      • rugby fans CTE flares up when they have to confront that

      • Popular as in crowd numbers and/or tv audience? Or popular as in participation?

          All of the above

          • @Danstar: Actually I think it's soccer that's more participated in but I'd be inclined to agree on the attendance numbers, most games seem to be pretty well attended.

            • @Ham Dragon: its number 11 most attended sport on the planet, mate.

              avg. is 37,000+.

nothing in this country close to that.

              • @XCOM v2: Worldwide average home game attendances in 2023
                1. 81,365 Borussia Dortmund
                2. 77,659 Collingwood

@davebern: Yeah, the atmosphere in German stadia is phenomenal, they build their seating almost vertically up and spectator views are very close to the sideline, the density of the energy from fans is electric, you have to be present to understand how it feels.

                  • @muwu: I saw FC Seoul play a K-League match at the World Cup stadium in Seoul and the atmosphere was far beyond what I've ever seen on 🇦🇺
I'm going to 🇩🇪 next and I hope to see Bayern Munich play. I'm even more excited after hearing of your experience!

                • @davebern: Yes unfortunately Collingwood leading the way
