The Alienware m16 R2 RTX 4070 is currently a surprisingly decent $2,698.30 from Dell, but if you generate a TechRadar 7% Dell coupon code and apply it at checkout you can get it for $2,509.42.

Intel Ultra 7 155H CPU
RTX 4070 8GB GPU
2560 x 1600, G-Sync, 240Hz, 3ms, 100% sRGB display
16GB (2x8GB) DDR5 RAM
1TB NVMe SSD
Thunderbolt 4
90Wh battery

Sure, it's $419.41 more expensive than the great deal on the Dell G16 7630 ($2,089.99 using a TechRadar Dell 7% coupon code) originally posted by OfficialBaka. If your focus is mostly on gaming, then the G16 is a better deal. But the Alienware m16 R2 has some key features that make it much better suited if you also want to use it for work purposes.

The G16 actually has the more powerful CPU, but the Alienware m16 has a newer more efficient CPU, a slightly thinner and lighter form, improvements such as Wi-Fi 7, IR webcam for facial recognition, power share, above average power profiles, very slightly larger battery, smaller power brick and premium inclusions such as the Alienware mSeries keyboard. To me these little extras are worth the cost - even more so if you will be carrying the laptop around a lot.

The m16 R2 4070 also comes in an Ultra 9 185H, 32GB RAM variant for $2,761.11 after 7% discount. The $251.62 extra makes for a very cheap RAM and CPU upgrade! I currently have this variant for review and have been impressed - especially when it comes to performance when running from USB-C, which is important for those who want to use it as a portable workstation.

There's also a RTX 4060 variant of the m16 but at $2,257.75 after 7% discount it's not that compelling.

For anyone who wants a cheaper option, the TechRadar 7% Dell coupon code also works on the Dell G15 5535, which means a Ryzen 7, RTX 4060 gaming laptop for just $1,504.85.

The Dell coupons on the TechRadar Dell coupon code include both a 7% and a 10% coupon. The 10% coupon works on various XPS laptops, but I was testing it on other products and found many work - including some Alienware accessories such as keyboards, mice, backpacks and headsets. In my testing the 7% off coupon code works on some (but not all) Alienware and Inspiron laptops and desktops, and G Series laptops, and consumer monitors. So worth taking a look!

Disclaimer: I work for TechRadar AU (don't worry, I have been an OzBargainer longer) and when not obsessing over power banks I trawl the internet for sweet sweet laptop deals. Posting them here means I can tell my boss that being on OzBargain all day is necessary. And of course it also means a bit of commission if people buy something using the TechRadar codes. You can read more about how we source codes here.

Dell needs to have bigger EOFY sale like 20% off, I like their X series, so thin & very exy too

    • +1

Yeah Dell used to have some epic sales. But after they got fined by the ACCC for misleading sales pricing, they have been super careful and don't even put the before pricing.

So comparing pricing is hard as it's not clear what is discounted, and by how much.

But around $2,500 for a slighter more premium gaming laptop with a 4070 is a good deal and comparable to other brands current sale prices. Such as the $2,499 Lenovo Legion Slim 5i with a 4070.

      • Yeah if Dell can do 20% off across their AW now, they sure can sell more, with around same prices as Lenovo, these days everyone will still go for the Legions instead …

While so mny strugling it is hard to believe someone has $2.5k for laptop. Or maybe im wrong…

    • yeah with specs like that should be 32gb ram

  • Hey Muzeeb 👋🏻

shoback and cashreward is running 12% cashback compaign

assuming this coupon will disqualify the cash back?

    • If it isnt explicitly listed as a coupon on Shopback yes.

You may also need to follow up with Shopback re missing cashback tracking if it doesnt track.

      • So better to go with the cash back for this one then? Given it's 4% more

The 4080 version was on sale recently for just under $3000. Yeah it's 20% more money which is a fair bit ($500), but the 4080 is 55% or so faster in games at 1440p, so the 4070 just doesn't feel like as good value at this price.

    • Yeah we sure get shafted here in oz with laptop pricing and available skus.

The dell is oos at the moment, there is this msi available for 3k with a coupon code

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/176273218771?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

Msi screens are generally trash of course when it comes to colour gamut, but 13980hx, 1600p.16:10 240hz screen and 32gb of memory isn't bad.

I think the m16 with 4080 was an R1, I wonder if it'll even come back in stock, it might be done.

Yeah the 2560 x 1600 screen should be alright with that one. I think the same one is $100 less at centre com, not including the zip code which I know some people don't want to use.

    • Thanks, I'll hold out for a 4080 deal, didn't know it was such a drastic improvement.

    • Yeah the 4080 m16 was a great deal for anyone who grabbed one before it sold out!

      • I think that deal was for a 1080p screen so without an external monitor the 4080 GPU is really wasted as there aren't many games that won't hit FPS caps or really stress the GPU.

This Alienware will be very well balanced with a 1440p gaming with the 4070, good framerates particularly with games that support DLSS 3.

    • After a bit more testing, IMO the m16 R2 really stands out in the gaming / portable workstation crossover market it's targeted at. It's one of the few times I've seen mixed use power profiles that don't make me question if marketing and engineering have ever actually spoken.

Of course full duration battery life tests need to wait till Windows settles in but I'm seeing under 10W full system power use while playing 1080P video, which bodes well.

There are better deals for gaming bang for buck, but for a "stealth" gaming / workstation laptop it's a pretty good deal.

      • How's its cooling system? Since the size shrinks compare to R1.

        • It can definitely sustain the advertised 175W total power use, so the results are decent. But it does get very noisy running flat out. Bigger laptops (or ones with better cooling - Lenovo for example) are significantly quieter.

So yeah game with a headset on…

      • I got 290 minutes in YouTube video playback (200 nit screen) which is above average compared to a lot of other Intel based laptops, so I guess Meteor Lake might be contributing.

        • Ahhh interesting. During that test was the m16 R2 using Intel Arc graphics or the RTX 4070?

          • @Prong: Yeah, optimus on via advanced optimus, so technically if an app wanted to wake the 4070 it could, but it shouldn't really happen during that particular workload.

            • @JarrodsTech: Out of interest I gave a YouTube video a half hour test and it averaged about 10W full system power use on the integrated GPU.

Whereas 290 minutes is more like 18W, which suggests something was using excess power, such as keeping the 4070 awake.

I'll run a full duration battery test overnight - I suspect it will do about 8 hours.

              • @Prong: I don't have it anymore to check the wattage, but my testing methodology can be found here if you want more details :) https://jarrods.tech/list-of-laptop-battery-life/

                • @JarrodsTech: Matching that methodology (though Wi-Fi on and running logging, battery saver mode off and drain to the 2% remaining default hibernation) on Alienware's battery mode I got 10.1W average system power use and 519 minutes (8 hours 39 minutes) run time playing YouTube.

I find that all too often, figuring out if the results you get as a reviewer are representative of what a user will get can be one of the most time consuming parts of the job. Is it bad drivers and/or power profiles? A bug? Windows being random?

I have been digging into the large variances in battery life with Meteor Lake because that's my idea of fun. But I think it's absolutely worth logging sensor data when benchmarking, as it often makes narrowing down issues much easier. For example I have logs from testing the same Ultra 9 185H CPU in the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED, which helps when comparing CPU usage. (14+ hours in PCMark10 battery test = ~5W power use for productivity tasks, which shows how good the 185H can be.)

Your results for the Ultra 9 Asus Zenbook 14 OLED are a good clue too - you average around 6.7W when playing video. 63.5% less power than the m16 R2! The OLED screen on the Asus will account for some of that, but there was still a big chunk of powering going somewhere it shouldn't have been in the Alienware.

  • @Prong any WFH Dell deal please? TIA

    • I can check - what sort of products are you thinking of in a WFH deal?

      • A laptop. Min 15inch screen with good battery. Usb C power. HDMI. Min 16gb RAM and 500gb SSD. Aluminium build. Dell or Lenovo or HP decent sturdy model please. TIA

        • Price range? I had some hands on time this week with the about to be released new Microsoft Surface Laptop and it's impressive. But more of a premium option so $2700 for the spec you are after.

  • The 4070 is kind of the waste of a GPU. I would get the dell laptop linked above with the 4080.
4070 is only marginally better than a 4060 in mobile space

    • 4070 way better than my 3060.

      • Probably but the 4060 was a decent GPU. It's just the 4070 premium was never justified. 4080 always felt like it was worth skipping over the 4070

    • I had a Legion 5 3070ti which had better performance than any 4070 laptop.

Reason being is 4070 laptops are limited in TGP whereas the 3070ti Legion had max TGP

No numpad on a gaming laptop drives me insane. There are games and simulators that make use of the numpad and having one dangling on a usb cable or wireless and floating is awful..

    • 17-18 laptops usually have numpads and you qre likely to find better deals as they are less favourable than 15-16 inch ones

      • -1

Incorrect. I have 2 Lenovo laptops - 15 and 16 inch. Both with numpads. The 16 inch is a Legion 7i and is only about 8 months old.

        • I didn't say 15 inch laptops dont have numpads.

I was merely suggesting that likelihood on finding laptops with numpads are higher on 17-18 inch.

I too owned 2 15inch laptops in the past with numpads.

          Gigabyte Aero 15 3070 and Legion 5i (non-pro, hence not even 16") 3070ti.

  • "For anyone who wants a cheaper option, the TechRadar 7% Dell coupon code also works on the Dell G15 5535, which means a Ryzen 7, RTX 4060 gaming laptop for just $1,504.85." This appears to be a RTX 4050 rather than a 4060.

    • +1

It definitely shows up as the RTX 4060 for me on the link from the deal I posted about it. And lets me add it to the cart.

However when I browse the Dell site and look through the G15 variants, the Ryzen 7 + RTX 4060 does not show up - only the $1,612 RTX 4050 variant shows up.

This is the direct link that works for me. The laptop order code listed is sgn5535051501mau. (The 4050 is sgn5535050501mau)

      • Thanks Prong!

You are right, the link works, but clicking on buttons can change the model.

  • @prong Any 18inch laptop deals coming soon >?..

    • Gaming laptop? Nothing that I can announce ahead of time. I expect some of the best EOFY deals won't surface till at least next week. I'll let you know if anything good comes up.

      • No worries, Thanks

  • coupons ran out

    • HP deals are alot better, @s26f84 check them out

    • Thanks for the heads up, will check tomorrow.
