    • Sorry shipping must depend on location.

I have a similar 4-way Belkin one, and it's a massive pain in the ass.
I'm not sure if it's the same with this, but with mine, you can't plug anything in while the board is turned on. Since there's only one universal switch, not individual ones, this means you have to turn everything off then back on again, simply to plug a single thing in.

Might not sound like a big deal, but it can be incredibly annoying if using with a PC setup, where constant removal and insertion is required. I now have an 8-way close-to-generic-but-far-enough-away-for-comfort board, that does the job just fine. Belkin as a brand is massively overrated.

    /my $0.02

    • "you can't plug anything in while the board is turned on"…..seriously? That's brutal.

Just plug things* in while its live

      Cutlery etc excluded

I've tried, it's pretty much impossible. Either that, or I'm retarded… both equally likely scenarios.

        • +2

Why is it impossible? I've got one of these 6 way boards (few years old now- looks identical but is black) and have no problem unplugging or plugging with the power on. When you say its impossible, do you mean it trips?

        • As in, the plug is physically incapable of accessing the board whilst it's on. It may have been because the board was new, but it was fine when it was turned off, but impossible when turned on.
So I don't know if it was the board, or me, that was retarded.
          shrug

Trying to picture you attempting to plug something in against this invisible force field that's active when the board's switched on :D

Only explanation I can think of for your story is stiff contacts inside the board, and simply by chance, the prongs weren't as well aligned when you were trying to plug things in while the board was switched on.

        • I'm definitely including a force field the next time I recount this epic tale ;-)

    • i have a belkin that looks very similar.
no probs plugging things in while it's on.
      sounds strange.

I like the depressed sockets.. holds things in nicely (especially as mine is mounted vertically).

Mine is 8 ports.. and I need 6 of them, two left for occasional use equipment.

But of course, having switches on each port would be great.. and the next board I buy will.

  • Damn, this doesn't have an Antenna port. I have an attic antenna, does anyone know if I should run my antenna cables through a surge protector or am I safe as my antenna is in the attic?

    • Many people have never had an issue with running their antenna cable directly to their tv but there is always a very small risk involved.

Personally I've never bothered because it can result in some pixel loss on the signal and the risk is so miniscule that I don't see the point.

Although if I lived in an area where we experienced constant lightning strikes then I would reconsider my situation (as direct lightning strikes to your antenna is the only thing that you need to protect against).

      • However, will this board, or any other board protect you from a lightning strike to your antenna? What what I have read, highly unlikely.

        • Although there may be a clause in the terms of the $150,000 warranty protecting themselves against 'acts of god' or whatever they call them nowadays, that warranty should cover it.

    • The masthead amp power supply is one backdoor route for surges that's sometimes overlooked. If it's a wall wart connected to an antenna lead inside the house, you can plug it in a surge protector to close that backdoor. But some masthead amp power supplies are less accessible, which may leave protecting each antenna outlet as a substitute.
