It's been sub 300 before and that was only normal deal.

Have you got a link for the sub $300 deal?

Have a feeling they're thinking about a similar but worse model.

  • -1

Is it really worth it at this price point when there are multiple other and newer models of similar specification available for considerably cheaper?

    i.e. - https://www.centrecom.com.au/gigabyte-gs27qa-27-qhd-superspe… - $309 + shipping.

    • No G-Sync and not nano-IPS?

      • +1

The LG doesn't have the hardware G-Sync module either, it's "G-Sync Compatible" which means it's just supports low frame-rate compensation and AdaptiveSync/FreeSync.

Nano-IPS - argument could be made is it really worth the extra ~$100

        • Plenty of reports of eyestrain with Nano IPS. Something to do with oversaturated reds. I note the Dell S2721DGF may be using the same panel, however the Dell additionally contributes to eyestrain with its high frequency 20kHz flicker, despite being advertised as flicker free.

  • As much as I love my numerous Nano IPS monitors, I feel like we're now entering The Age of the OLED.

    • but IMHO OLED is still not really suitable for Productivity work and Desktop use, seeing that burn-in is still very really for all models.

And that is the main reason I still have not gone OLED for my main rig.

I think there has been a lot of misinformation about burn in. As someone would two OLED TVs, I won't pretend I've not been terrified of it for a long time. I think the consensus is today that burn in phobia was just a myth.

Burn in on OLED displays isn’t a myth… Yes there has been some advancements with OLED tech to reduce burn in from happening, however despite the improvements it can still occur. Whether a person experiences it or not is largely going to come down to what they use an OLED screen for. As someone that owns 2 OLED TV’s too, a Sony 77” a95L QD-OLED and an LG 65” C9 WOLED, which I primarily use them for watching my large collection of Blu-ray’s and 4K Blu-ray’s (I watch titles from my collection everyday, and this probably makes up approximately 80% of my viewing on my OLED TV’s), as well as watching some content on paid streaming services, and some console gaming.

I own OLED TV’s for the purpose of watching the highest picture quality content available. I don’t watch free to air TV, ABC, SBS, 7, 9, 10 etc are all rubbish in my opinion, however if I did I certainly would not have bought an OLED TV, due to them regularly using static station brand logos and bars. The same applies for a laptop/computer monitor, I would never consider buying an OLED for a PC monitor if I was intending to have the operating system menu and icons displayed on it everyday for long periods of time.

        • Yeah I have an OLED lg C8 that has burn in from PlayStation game huds. I thought it was fiction too, until it happened to us

          • @Librarier: Did you ever switch the power off at the wall after use, out of interest. And noting that c8 is pretty old at this point

    • I welcome OLED. As the burn in with Nano IPS can happen in your eyes.

    • I feel like the age of OLED has constantly been a few years away. It seems like they constantly hit problems making them more affordable. Plus the wombo combo of burn in, text rendering issues and low brightness make them kind of undesirable for work involving lots of staring at text, necessitating a non-OLED secondary display anyway.

I have this, it's great. No eye strain staring at it all day WFH. I'd buy another but I'm holding out for an OLED to pair it with (..and use that for gaming)

  • Does anyone know if this is the replacement for the 27GL850-B? Is it better or worse than that model?
