Was $599 from total tools and Sydney tools and $550 from tool kit depot two weeks ago with official redemption as well.

All the big retailers have since talked and agreed to put the price back up to full retail so they can together continue to rip the consumers off.

    • No they weren’t the gen 4 kit like this deal, this is a great deal for a gen 4 kit

      • Someone I worked with got this exact kit for just over $600 a couple of weeks back.

      • No, they are all gen 4, you can't even find gen 3 anymore from their website. Don't fool yourself.

For more context: Google "Milwaukee got fined $15m in Australia for forcing retailers to sell above minimum price"

    • Thank, Just read it. That makes sense now, as the timing of 2016 coincides roughly when Milwaukee Australia got a new head manager that came from the USA. That is when pricing started to go up and the discounts disappeared.

I recall talking to a guy in one of the tool shops and mentioned I had just recently bought an M18 grinder for a very low price from another shop. He said that if they continued, they would most likely lose their contract. Red flag there. My first thought was price fixing and how can they get away with it.

Also around that time they also made the warranty process a more difficult and lengthy process. Think 8 weeks to replace a faulty battery. Another 7 weeks for a faulty charger. And another 8 weeks for a faulty rotary hammer.

Consequently, as a result of the rather sharp price increases and the rubbish warranty wait times, myself and another from of our crew swapped brands not long after. At least the price increases meant we went close to getting our money back on the sale of the Milwaukee tools, lol.

Yeah, warranty wait times are always ridiculous with Milwaukee. I know people who have waited months to get stuff repaired or replaced, which usually means having to buy a replacement in the interim. In one case, the second tool broke and before the first was even back from warranty.

To be fair to Milwaukee, I'm not sure how long the warranty process is with other brands. I've never needed to warranty any of my Dewalt or Bosch tools or Makita tools.

  • How generous to throw in the useless 12v 2.0ah battery for free. "Guess I need to buy that electric ratchet now".

    • Highly recommend the M12 magnetic work light with USB charger for that battery 👌

  • Trade Tools had 20% everything Milwaukee last week, now they have updated the offer to 20 - 22% off some Milwaukee products. I wonder if Milwaukee came down on them for having flat 20% off on everything. I want to make a purchase and buy their 13-piece kit, but I am also hesitant to get locked into a battery system and a brand that is engaged in practices that do not align with my beliefs.

    • I think Australia was a different case as they certainly dont operate like that in the USA. Not sure about the rest of the world though. It was hopefully down to that one manager thinking he could get away with it. Which I guess he did for 7 years, lol.

And now they have copped the maximum fine you would think the ACCC would be keeping an eye on them plus Milwaukee Australia would very foolish to try it again.

Besides that, the tools are very good. I had both the M12 and M18 and other than the slow warranty issues, I was happy with them.

I like my Makita CXT 12v tools much more though. Far nicer grip on them due to the slide pack battery. The M12 use a stem pack and the grip feels bad to me. Too chunky. For 18v I went with Ryobi and more recently added Ozito as they are my lesser used tools.

      • Thanks for the insights and sharing your personal experience. I actually really like new RYOBI HP range, they are solid but still a DIY tool. Not covered in 6-year warranty for commercial use. I have only heard the great things about Makita, i just don't like the colour. I might need to get past that and move to that platform instead. I have heard good things about Dewalt too but I don't know how i feel about investing in Black & Decker brands.

Happy to help. I did have some 18v Makita tools, mostly outdoor equipment, and they were fantastic. I ended up selling them as they were complete overkill for my yard and usage. With the proceeds and some careful shopping, that got me a heap of Ryobi and Ozito stuff.

There is a great deal on a Makita Brushless 10pc kit with a bonus circular saw for $2000 at Bunnings at the moment. That will get you most of what you want to start with. Definitely worth you checking it out.

Dewalt is definitely another solid option too. I haven't used too many of their tools, but the ones I have felt good to me.

There is also a great deal on a Dewalt 10pc kt for $2000 as well. It also comes with a Tstak toolbox and a rotary hammer via redemption.

Available from just about all tool shops, but here is a link to Sydney tools for example.
