Citibank Gold Card Reward Redemption: Nokia N82 for 12,800 reward points!

342

Redeem a Nokia N82 with 12,800 Citibank Gold Card reward points.
For a $500 phone, I say it's quite a bargain!

Normally with the same amount of points, you can only redeem a one-year subscription for a magazine!

UPDATED 10/12/2008

The new Reward Points needed is 130,900.

  • Previously, you could get Qantas frequent flyer points, and citibank was a good credit card company to sign up for this that offers no annual fees.

However that has since changed when they took of the Qantas FFP. Have already cancelled my citibank card.

    • I think the Qantas FFP is still available, but need to call citibank to transfer the points

  • I wonder if I can transfer my Commonwealth Gold Points to Citibank at 1 to 1? 200,000 points should get me a few phones!

  • wow, I think this is another error again.. anyway, just redeemed two and see how it goes.. :)

  • after redeemed, I found the redemption record shows the item description is 'Nokia N95', but the item code is still '3727'…???

  • Is this how Citigroup spend their bailout money from the Fed? :D

  • Nice one! I was in the market for a new phone (although the reason I need one is crappy build quality on my current Nokia) but 12,800 points + $17 shipping is reasonable even if I turf it in a year or two.

  • It's a very good reward with very high per dollar spent/value ratio.

  • dam i just cashed in my 15000 citibank points for $75 cash back. i wonder what bctransit said"
after redeemed, I found the redemption record shows the item description is ‘Nokia N95’, but the item code is still ‘3727’…???:"

so do you mean it is in fact a n82 model you get or not?
also does any one know if its got wifi if so its a good deal i might just spend up big for xmas so i can cash in more points to get one for myself lol

    • after you redeemed the phone, go to 'Redemption Activity' to check the record, I found the item description is ‘Nokia N95’

  • Yes it has WiFi.

Seems like another error, i.e. missed out a zero at the end (128000 pts)

  • Excellent find! Redeemed two. (Did not realize that they took Qantas Points off as an option. Renders the card absolutely useless.)

  • Just redeemed one too!

I wonder what would happen if they found out this was an error. Can they simply withdraw the offer and cancel all transactions?

    • Well, if it is an error, they will first halt further redemptions, then try to sneak out of already completed transactions by stating some tiny print buried in their T&Cs. In that case a strongly worded response to your CSR and an otherwise good standing w/ Citi might help. Additionally, of course, there will the usual rounds of users threatining to sue Citi, cancel their accounts and such. All of which which will come to naught.

  • is it only gold or silver as well?

    • platinum as well

  • Good deal - Just ordered one. Thanks for sharing - My boy going on camp wanted a mobile phone and camera - ideal one!

  • can you guys check your ‘Redemption Activity’ to see what's on the item description?

    • it says:
      3727 Nokia N95 12,800 New Redemption

      But my receipt clearly says:
      3727 Nokia N82 TITANIUM 12,800 17.00 1 Completed

Citibank still offers QFF until 31st March 2009.
After that, you can still redeem QFF, but they have to be linked directly to your QFF account, meaning you can't redeem your Citi points for other things.
    Link:
    http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/partners/card/citibank-r…

    • Cheers for that. I thought they were totally going to decommission the whole QFF by 31/04. Looks like I might reapply again. :)

i called citibank up and they said that the offer should actually be ~130000 points. they also said that although the order will get through the initial stage, when it hits their rewards system, it will automatically be rejected as their internal rewards system says 130000 points whereas the order says 12800 points.

Also informed that all orders that have been made will be rejected and not be fulfilled.

sorry guys and girls, offer is not valid.

    • Was a very good deal (if they honoured it), but voting negative because it's not going to happen :)

Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I have received a confirmation email from them:

Would be a bonus if they honour it. Nothing to lose anyway. :)

    • Why don't you just broadcast the fact!!!! to you ——

  • bugger 1200 short of redeeming
edit: ok 120000 short of redeeming ;)

  • Just redeemed 2 & the item description has N95 as well. Let's see.

Thanks this post, it made my day!

  • I can smell another Dell style uproar lol

  • it was 16100 for n82 at the time i redeem my rewards. without any freight cost.
but it shows up as n93 at the redemption page.

    they fix their error with another error ? (n82 for 12800 + $17 freight —> n95)

btw, i tried to post this deals but ozbargain won't accept deals from citibank. turned out we can just upload the deal as pdf on ozbargain upload page. lol. didn't think about that! nice one OP!

also, citibank said they will get to me when I called them. but never did. I hope I get the phone though!

    • /me try to pretend that I have never seen this thread so when the Citibank PR rep knocks on the door I can go "huh?! what are you talking about?"

      • You have left a nice trace here on the website with your photo ;| for the Citibank rep!

  • I wonder why there is an internal and external set of points … This is very tempting to try :P I was looking at media players, and I like the hot swappable memory card with 100 MB internal for contacts, calendar etc … :)

  • Great find - hope they do honour it. Have just ordered 2!

  • i hope they will i ordered one too

  • Yep me too …. Ordered one. Let's see if they honour it :)

Even more strange. After ordering, looking at my redemption activity, it listed as follows:

    07/12/2008 Nokia N95 12,800 New Redemption

Very strange. Hey I wouldn't mind if they give me N95 …..

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to process and deliver the phones?

    • I submitted my redemption on 04/12.
When I checked my statement last night, they have charged the $17 for the delivery.

So probably about 5 working days is my guess?

  • SO I ordered three N82 Titanium's. Couple days later the narration changed in the redemption activity to N95's. Which one is preferable? I might keep one and sell the others.

  • You might want to look up some reviews. cnet.com.au has some … :)

  • I can't order it, anyone know why?

Card type and number: Platinum Visa XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Reward points balance: 13,631

The status for each of the Reward items you have redeemed is displayed below.

Redemption Number Code Name Points Freight $AU Fast Track Points Fast Track Cost $AU QTY Status
    N/A 3727 Nokia N82 TITANIUM 0 0.00 0 Failed
    Sub Totals: $0.00 0 $0.00

    • Maybe you can try to buy it again? Since you still have the points available? Or maybe they have changed the IT system so no one can buy it anymore?

  • Confirmed that it's a N95 1GB Plum.
Going to sell it on ebay lol.
Or if anyone here want to buy it ? :)

    • Thanks for confirming this :)

  • Can also confirm that the $17 shipping charge has appeared on my statement. Can't wait for this to arrive whether its the (n82 or n95). Hey tinx how did you confirm that its the n95? Has yours already been delivered or did you call up and ask them? Also when you say 1GB is that just the external memory stick that came with the n95?

    • Yeah. It's delivered. I redeemed it for 16100 points (without freight cost) :)
      It's N95-1 D.Plum.

Actually I haven't open the box, because I'm going to sell it. But from google, I'm pretty sure it comes with standard ext 1 gb micro sd card.

      • Thinking the quality of info supplied to lplau wasn't too good … which is great for everyone else :)

I also got that N/A error though, when trying to redeem for this item … I'm wondering if that's their way of fixing their system :P

        • Maybe if more people can confirm that they cannot redeem it anymore we can safely say that Citibank has closed the deal (not elegantly of course)?

      • lucky bugger ;)
i've paid my rent on my credit card to try and make up the 1500 more points i neeed, hopefully it will last until the points become avail

      • May you please confirm whether it is N95 160Mb or is it the N95 8Gb version?

        • It's N95-1
          Not N95-2 (8GB) nor N95-3 (CDMA)

  • yup they charged 17$ from me too….

  • tinx, how long before yours was delivered?
    Got the $17 taken…

  • redeemed on 25/11/2008
    received yesterday 8/12/2008

    2 weeks approx ?

  • Whats the RRP of the N95 1GB?

    • Probably around ≈ $500

  • can i buy points with dollar ?

  • I've been charged $17 on my account as well.
Will keep you guys updated on my status. :)

  • Bad news, as of today its 130k to redeem! bummer, i had approx 9k and was trying to get the right amount before they caught on, I was too late, congrats to the guys who got it!

  • bother was only 300 points short, and they would have come through tommorow,
    back to 120,000 short ;)

  • I got 4 lol :D
I'm selling this to buy a new TV ! :)

    • oh my goodness :) :) :) lol that's awesome :) :) :)

    • Congratulations! You have done well!

I only order one and the 17.00 has been taken by Citibank (yay!). Let's hope they will honour it. I don't think I will sell the phone since I promised to give it to my wife to use it as she wants a new phone ….

      • Maybe show her the reviews on cnet.com.au … maybe she does want to sell it and get a phone that is even nicer to use :)

  • i ordered a couple too, would prefer the n82, but oh well!

  • I ordered on the weekend,,, hope I get it. THX!!!

  • anyone know what kind of warranty it comes with? also if there's any way to check the warranty status?

  • I have ordered one too on Monday, Just before they close the deal. Saw they taken $17 from my account, hope they honour it, cann't wait to receive it hopefully before christmas so that I can give it to my wife as christmas present.

  • For those that we're lucky enough top get this, did anyone actually receive a Nokia N82 or you all received N95's?

  • Just called them today, they said the N95 would be delivered within 7 days…

    • So it is an N95 and not the N82? Is the N95 better than the N82? I'm also waiting for delivery on my order.

    • fumi when did you order your phone?

      • Ordered on 05/12/2008.

In terms of N82 vs. N95, I personally prefer N82. But, N95 is much better than 50 cash back already, I wish I had redeemed more…

  • has any1 had their orders come through yet?

  • Redeemed on 5/12/08 - Received today!

    As mentioned by tinx, it's a Nokia N95-1 D.Plum.

I think the 2 negative voters should retract their negative votes because the order was fulfilled and honoured.

    • cool, i also redeemed on 5/12, hopefully it arrives for me too :)

      • My two arrived today as well.

  • I ordered 2 and one has arrived today, it is the N95 but I actually prefer it over the N82, this deal is legit. Thanks to the person who posted this.

  • Long time reader, first time poster…

Called Citibank to check status of order, in passing the operator mentioned they "ran out of N82s" due to the popularity of the offer and had to substitute N95s.

    Funny.

Still waiting on phone, redeemed on the 5/12! =(

    • Ditto mate - Hoping it arrives this week atleast.

  • I wonder how many are selling it on ebay? There could be a flood of N95 for sale!

    • +2

well i sold all 4 that i got on ebay :)
bought a plasma panasonic 50" 800A. Minus the wii and the gift card that i used to buy the tv. basically the tv is free :P

      • how much did u sell them for on ebay?

        • Or better yet, tell us the item numbers, that way we can see what they sold for, plus people that want to sell theirs can copy-paste the item description verbatim ;-)

      • :) :) :) :) :)

      • @ tinx: a merry merry christmas present from citibank eh? lol!

        • +1

          so true :)

i didn't expect to get a tv from point redemption :P

          sold for $499.99 + 15 postage each.

  • Just got mine :)

    • Still waiting…

Oh and Zagg is selling the Invisible Shields for this phone for USD4.95!

      Edit: here's the link! http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/nokia-n95-cases-screen-p…

      • The US$4.95 for the protector thing itself is fine, but the US$10.80 shipping makes it a fair bit more expensive, and add the low exchange rate + the sub-par rate exchange rate you get on VISA, and it comes to about AU$25. Makes me unsure if it's worth bothering with… probably a must-have on an iphone / ipod which scratches so easily, but generally the Nokias I've had are pretty tough - so I'm undecided.

        • I do believe you can choose free shipping! It just takes longer to get here…

          • @gavt: I can't see a free shipping option for this zagg shield (they say free shipping may not apply to international orders), would give it a go if there was one. Only 4 shipping options to Aus that I can see are:
UPS Worldwide Express - with Tracking - (1-3 business days) $79.22
            UPS Worldwide Saver $76.06
UPS Worldwide Expedited - with Tracking - (2-5 business days) $71.57
USPS First Class Mail International - No Tracking - (7-10 business days) $10.80

            • @nickj: I got free shipping! Email confirmation below…

"Please retain this information for your future reference, including warranty issues.

If you chose our Free Shipping method you will NOT receive any tracking information.

              You have ordered the following:

              2 Nokia N95 (Full Body) 4.95 (ea) 9.90

              Subtotal: 9.90
              Tax: 0.00
              Shipping: 0.00
              Total: 9.9"

I actually have two 20% discount voucher things that came with the email if anyone wants…

    • Santa just dropped two N95s off here, redeemed on 5/12:)

Accidentally locked one of them in the excitement, off to find the PUK:(

  • did they send the mobile using courier service? I haven't got mine, redeemed 5/12, wondering if I missed the delivery , since I'm not home to receive it.

    • It was delivered by an Aust Post courier.

If no one's at home, they leave a card for you to pick it up at your nearest Post Office.

  • don't worry - I ordered on 5/12 and got it just now! It came via e-parcel and as blinker said, you will have a card in your inbox if you were not around.

I always get delivered at work - since the receptionist will collect it for you!

  • Got mine too today! 2 x N95 - what a bargain

  • Still haven't received it until today :(

  • Hello gavt,

If possible, can I plz have one of your 20% off voucher for the Nokia N95 (Full Body). Cheers mate
