Can't use Amazon gift card? This is a new limitation.

    • +9

This is a bad change. Can a rep confirm?

      • rep's gone

        • GYB is gone?

          • @nfr: yes

            • @xrailgun: What happened? Copped too much heat?

              • +4

@ironworthy: Most likely Westpac's acquisition restructuring is kicking in and they removed this position. One less salary to pay, and less payouts to honour, win-win by extremely myopic bean counters which are the vast majority of PEs.

This is not a celebration for CR/TCB fans, either. Everyone must follow along with enshitification or their margins/market share will vaporize.

          • +1

@G-rig: And look how much money it would have generated knowing that someone would fix it if the cashback stuffed up. Now, well people just won’t bother….

          • +5

            @G-rig:

GYB replying to everyone's DM's would be a fulltime job.

And SB customer "service" is a masterclass in dumbfkery, so the fact that they pulled their OZB rep isn't surprising. They'd rather push everyone to their cumbersome and clunky email support process, only for us to find their support reps doing all they can to prevent SB from honouring a claim.

      • +4

GYB is the name of SB's store account and is still here and contactable. The person/s that operated this account seems to have left and replaced with someone that is probably new and appears unfamiliar with SB's usual T&Cs.

There have been errors in the T&Cs and tracking in their recent deals. I'm not confident shopping with SB as the new GYB (or staff) doesn't appear to be as helpful or responsive as the previous one.

I've stopped posting SB deals as there were T&C errors in previous deals. This new Amazon rule of not paying with gift cards could be an error.

Yes, let's replace someone who was actually on top of it (GYB) with a bunch of intern monkeys that don't have a clue… that absolutely sounds just like a page that's been ripped from Crapback's playbook.

    • +1

It's been like that for a month. Lame.

    • +1

Ouch. There goes my 10% cashback bonuses from a few days ago??

      • +1

Most likey will change to calculating or 0 later.

    • +1

I wonder why, TCB allows. I will be giving this a miss.

      • +1

Because SB are 💩heads - plain and simple.

    • Can confirm.

Purchased something yesterday and just got the $3 bonus tracked just now.

      • With or without a GC?

        • With gc

  • +9

Oh wow good pickup @cello, I thought maybe it was only for this challenge, but this statement is on Shopback now as blanket rule for all Amazon future cashback offers going forward.

This offer is not valid together with:

Any Gift Card, Voucher or store credit redemption

    • +3

      WOW WTF?? I hope it's a mistake

    • +27

Not a deal for people with a lot unused gift card balance

      • +2

don't know why you were negged. you are absolutely correct.

      • Can confirm.
I purchased something yesterday and i just got the $3 bonus tracked just now.

    • +13

The death of Amazon deals on SB.

    • What constitutes a gift card redemption? Is it the process of redeeming a physical or gift card to your gift card balance? (This is how I'd read it) Or is it the process of using your gift card balance to make a purchase?

      • +1

Using gift card balance to pay for a portion of or the entire order.

    • +7

Which basically means Amazon Prime Day and BF is a non-Shopback day as far as I'm concerned.

  • +20

Shopback can GTFO if they think they're gonna win the cashback wars by removing the ability to use gift cards. That's going to be a massive bone of contention now for many OzBargainers. It looks like I'll be sticking with TCB and CR until the pull their finger out of their a$$ and go back to the way it was. The amount of restrictions they're imposing now is a joke.

    Amazon + Shopback = 💀

      • it's using a gift card to purchase, not buying gc. you never got cash back for buying gcs

    • +1

Simple, just follow @TA. Looks like he joined TCB.

      • Not sure who negged you or why 🤔 I believe TCB are the way forward when compared to the likes of SB.

Yeah, TA announced that about 3 weeks back IIRC. And like most here, we're already following the main cashback sites. But SB are clearly paving the way for more skimpflation on their side with a continued decline in their product offerings and reduced cashbacks.

  • +1

I'll just buy a gift card

    • gift cards are excluded, see exclusions

      • -1

Buying with gift cards is. Purchasing a gift card is not. I think?

        • -1

Normally it's the other way around, but seems both are excluded this time..

These items are not eligible for Cashback:
Prime membership subscription purchases, Gift Cards, Kindle Unlimited, Mobile Apps, Audible, Echo Accessories, Kindle Access

This offer is not valid together with:
"Any Gift Card, Voucher or store credit redemption"

        • -1

          Buying with gift cards is

          Not anymore

  • -1

Anyone knows if you are able to preorder something to use up gift card balance and then pay with money?

    • -1

But something to use it to then cancel it quickly

      • -1

        Guess I could do that

        • -1

You can't cancel too quickly. My remaining gift card balance was added back to my order after. You might need to cancel in an hour or two. This happened to another ozbargainer too

          • @cynical17: As long as it is not "preparing for shipping" or "shipping now" you should be able to change payment method including add or remove GC balances.

            • +1

@Lucille Bluth: Haven't been able to remove GC balance. I had to cancel and reorder

              • @cynical17: I'm assuming you did it in desktop mode/computer? As you can't add or remove GC balances on the mobile app once order is placed. Otherwise, it must have been late in the shipping stage to amend payment method 🤷

Really need the rep to confirm this Amazon gift card ban - seems illogical

    • why illogical?

      • +1

'against common practice' All the other cashback companies allow it.
We need to confirm it is an intentional rule and not some kind of misinterpretation of 'no cashback for purchasing gift cards'
There have been a few public errors recently with the changes at ShopBack

        • +1

Good point although it really would be a schoolboy error on their part

      • "Because my logic is impeccable!"

  • +1

I am loaded with GC so I will pass

    • +1

Same have hundreds in GC's - looks like I am out for SB promos

  • Pass

  • Thank you. I don't have any giftcards.

  • +2

Neg for ShopBack mate. I can't be trusting these deals anymore when they revoke access to my account after having hundreds of cashback pending from previous deals.
Can't trust this cashback provider anymore..

    • Sorry to hear 😧. That's terrible. Do you mind sharing what happened?

      • I'm not too sure to be honest.. I was logged out of my account a few weeks prior, and contacted customer service. I didn't do anything dodgy or against their terms and conditions (last transaction purchased in May).

They took around 5 days to reply, stating that my account was permanently banned for breaking their terms and conditions in a way, they did not provide any reasoning behind that, which is quite ridiculous.

I'm a bit annoyed since I still had cashbacks pending, just shows to go you can't trust a service 100%.

        • @AkuroPlays It sucks when they don't disclose. I wonder if it's due to the multiple Boost SIM purchases that are also not paid. Perhaps the system at Boost or Shopback flags when a certain amount is purchased that would be considered as abuse.
Telstra/Boost are changing their T&Cs with the purchase of SIM cards according to TA at TCB and it's probably the end of profiting from Boost cashbacks.

          From ShopBack:
A failure to abide by any terms and conditions, the perpetration of any fraud or abuse, whether relating to the accrual or receipt of cashback and/or other rewards or otherwise, and/or any misrepresentation of any information furnished to ShopBack or its affiliates may result in your ShopBack account being flagged for suspicious activity and suspended or terminated; any cashback accumulated being forfeited; and/or any store credit or vouchers purchased by you being cancelled.

          • @trixieb: Yeah mate, unfortunately left clueless.

I've bought more with Cashrewards and have had no issues at all.

    • Did you do anything dodgy like CC charge back on a gift card purchase?

      • +1

Nope, I rarely really buy GCs unless its super upsized, also I don't use a credit card on ShopBack, just my Westpac Debit Card, and I have not disputed any charges on my account.

I've had an account with them for almost four years, and had couple thousand confirmed cashback withdrawn already.
I contacted support, and all they said was I broke their terms and conditions in someway and they are unable to tell me why nor reinstate my account.

Frustrating as it seems, majority of my pending cashbacks were from Boost Mobile SIMs as well, so yeah.. never touching em again and just sticking to Cashrewards and TopCashback.

  • Confused? Will a deal be eligible if it’s “save x% on any two items” offer from Amazon?
Is this a store discount etc?

  • Made an eligible order but for 0% category, how will it work if transaction doesn't track.

    • Update us for future reference. I have it a miss because we couldn’t even clarify t&c with GYB. :-(

    • 0% categories should track as calculating or $0. If it doesnt track at all, bonus wont get paid.
Not sure if the old comment about 0% categories qualifying for bonus is still relevant though as things can change like paying with GC not be eligible now.

  • Anyone’s tracked yet?

    • No for me. I did it through the shopback mobile app which opened the amazon app.

Cant remember when amazon usually tracks but I vaguely remember when the orders are sent and money is deducted.

    • Shopback says Amazon tracking may take 4 days.

  • Mine has now tracked. No gift cards used and STG used for payment. Amazon AU showing as calculating and bank cashback showing as pending. Was a 0% category. If I am not mistaken, the calculating needs to be approved for the $3 bonus to also be approved. Interesting…..

  • Opted into the bonus, purchased on 0% category using gift card, challenge completed and bonus seems to have tracked.

    • Gift card payments likely to change to calculating later. That is what happened to mine before i knew they changed the t&c. Not sure if it will affect bonus.

      • I didn’t use gift cards and mine says calculating

    • When you say tracked, does it say pending next to Amazon Australia with a $ amount, or does it just say calculating?

      • It's an interesting one - no tracking at all on the any of the 3 items i purchased, but my challenge shows as completed with a notification saying "Congrats, you did it!" and the $3 tracked in my notifications

        • same here…..under order details it lists both items purchased.

        • Interesting becayse the $3 bonus for the challenge stays pending until your purchase is approved lol

        • +1

$3 bonus now moved to confirmed

          • @Chickenleg: So paying with gift card works? So their info shown on the page saying:
This offer is not valid together with: Any Gift Card, Voucher or store credit redemption
            Must be wrong ?

            • +1

@King Tightarse: Yep, worked for me at least. Things seem in disarray at Shopback HQ lol

              • @Chickenleg: Not yet for me…it says waiting for Amazon purchase to be confirmed but with 0% category I am not sure it will.
