Well yeah, but if you're just using it to stream media then that's fine. If you want to store media or play games then stay away.
Streaming is a low bar, not really worth spending this kind of money on a tablet just for that. I have an old Samsung tablet I mainly use for media consumption and it's much better than using an iPad for that.

iPad air or Tab S9? I've got an unopened Tab S9 from recent post here I was thinking of returning. Tossing up between cheaper tablet option or hopefully a cheap Macbook Air deal around EOFY.

$800 at JB if you had $100 perks. Not as good as past Samsung deals if you could work the trade and stacking options
tab s9 is a nicer device to use with the amoled 120Hz. It also comes with a pen included.

M1 will probably be supported for quite a few more years, and it is still bloody overpowered for iPadOS. But iPadOS is limited, so depends on your use case.
It’s $427 at OW, $429 at JB for 9th gen. Might be better off buying the 10% off Ultimate gift cards and buying from OW or JB.

Dunno about iPad 9th gen but there are heaps of good cheap keyboards for the Air and it's pretty easy to adapt iPad Pro 11" cases like Logitech Slim Folio Pro to work for it too.

Why not use the on screen keyboard, for occasional tippy taps? Or if you need a keyboard for frequent typing, maybe a laptop is a better choice?
Yes I have never used a physical keyboard and have had iPads for ten years. It ends up thicker than an MBA to carry.
That said I do use the pencil a lot in Nebo for note taking.

The main differences from what I could recall was faster m1 SoC, more ram, bigger better screen with no gap, and better speakers.I would expect the air model to get longer support too.
