Wow
Good for my daughters gaming pc I’m trying to get?
She wanted a curved monitor but I’m not sure what’s better
Seems like a great budget choice for 2k gaming. IMO, at this size curve would be negligible but I guess its a personal preference thing along with monitor positioning.
Got this monitor for the lads gaming setup last year.
Excellent for the price, and good ergonomic adjustments too, which is rare on gaming monitors at this price point.
He also wanted a curved monitor but got over it quickly after unboxing!
I feel non-curved is better for schoolwork etc too (no real basis to that, just personal opinion). Not in the same class as IPS panels but not a bad VA either for a cheap price.
Unless your daughter is picky, it'll be fine until they move on to OLED ones when their older.
Also price matched at OW: here
JB will price match as well via online chat.Good if you have vouchers to use at JB.
VA panel to anyone looking for answer, will stick to my S3422dwg
VA panel, not worth the price.
What am I looking for?
VA has horrific ghosting artifacts - if you look at a dark starry sky in game and swipe the mouse, the stars vanish because of black smearing.
Much better off going for the 27" 1440p165 IPS options.

This is also bad because PPI density at 32" 1440p, might as well be a larger 1080p panel, blurry text etc.

It's pretty average even for VA standards. I suppose it's an okay trade-off considering the price though. Good compatibility with PS5/XBSX, although the 60Hz mode is pretty rough with response times so you'd do better on XBSX as it can force 120Hz mode at a console level whereas on PS5 the game has to support 120Hz.
@Yuri Lowell: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364375127313 ($314 1440p165 ips)
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/849779 ($270 1440p100 ips)
Much better panel(s) for the price, 27" same resolution means text will be much sharper.
165hz non-FastVA is blurrier (but smoother) in motion than 60hz IPS. I'd take the 100hz or 165hz ips panel anyday.
This VA is bad, but not all VA is bad. IPS has powdered trailing instead of dark smearing.
@jasswolf: True, IPS has had ghosting/trailing issues, some even on par with VA smear.
Nowadays though most of the modern budget ($100-200) IPS panels have minimal issues with motion clarity and ghosting, especially when compared to black smearing on top end ($1000+) VA like the G9/G7.
AFAIK it's mostly an issue with older AUO panels etc, and most recently, the first gen 360/390hz ips panels where the controllers couldn't keep up with the panel and had some horrific inverse overshoot.
The bigger issue on non-FALD IPS is bad contrast ratio and backlight bleed, but when gaming those are a bit less important than not having the screen turn into a blended mess.
modern budget ($200) IPS panels its essentially nothing in comparison to smearing on top end $1000 VA like the G9/G7.
No: this hasn't been improved outside of some aspects of how QHD 360Hz IPS panels perform, the issue is endemic as to how the technology goes returning to black.
Pursuit photography aside, you're not going to see that in RTings testing data unless it's come from their 2.0 test bench.
@jasswolf: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/samsung-odyssey…
I stand by what I said, even on the 2.0 bench, modern budget 165hz IPS is as good if not better than top end 240hz VA for pure motion clarity within VRR.
The only situation where it wouldn't would be older panels with massive overshoot issues, and not because of powdered trailing.
@HPdeskjet: VRR without variable overdrive is pointless, that's why GSync modules came to exist.
Neither offers this sufficiently for the full refresh range, and both score similarly on aggregate cumulative deviation.
The motion pursuit photography confirms this.
There are 165Hz VA offerings that are absolutely comparable with IPS, but Samsung and AUO still have plenty of old junk to sell.
165Hz OLED is about to come for their market share though.
@jasswolf: Fair enough.
Which panels are good atm for 165hz VA?
I was under the impression that only the Samsung FastVA 240 panels were on par with IPS, seems that I might be wrong.
RIP Gsync ultimate for VRR btw, now we get the lottery of gsync compatible panels, some perfectly in-spec and some with insane fluctuations in response time somehow.
@HPdeskjet: Current Dell ones are in a good spot, I'm not actually sure otherwise, though I can recall spotting at least another company starting to sell models.
Should be pretty easy to spot on RTings just from the motion pursuit shots.
Serious question, is there any IPS panel that comes close to this price in quality and is available right now?
I have the G3223D https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-g3223d and use it for gaming without any issues.
see above reply to yuri, 2 panels at 270 and 314 rn, both way better than this.
I would take 1440p27" IPS over 1440p32" VA, it's not even close.
Way better motion clarity (165hz non fast-VA is worse than 60hz IPS) and shaper image because of denser PPI.
Thank you for the explanation; I have never seen IPS so cheap and from Dell whom I regard higher than most of the competition.
My daughter really wants a 32” curved one
Can you recommend me one without killing my wallet
Not sure whats difference between these two. its 299 on pre-order

Hi, need recommendations for monitor with G-sync as this one only does support AMD Freesync.
Saw this discount on Jw computers tho
https://www.jw.com.au/product/asus-tuf-gaming-vg27aq3a-27-qh…
Thanksthis one only does support AMD Freesync
As far as I can tell it's G-Sync compat when used over displayport.
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-g5-g5… (27 inch version but you get the point)
But it’s not supporting G-sync for https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-g5-g5…
Right?
Thinking of getting this or the Lenovo (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/849507). Casual gaming. What do you guys think is better value?
Lenovo has IPS 4k resolution + built in speakers (less clutter) but 27" and 60hz only. Thoughts?
not really if you care about frame rate then 60hz its pretty bad.
4k27 is insanely sharp, but 60hz for gaming really does suck.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364375127313
This is better value than both. Sharper than the G5 (not as good as the 4k) but high refresh, while being a IPS panel so no smearing and ghosting.
Why are the colours so washed out on this monitor?
How does that work? I won't hold you liable if I go to prison
