Somehow the 27inch is more expensive.

      size doesn't matter

      • +3

        It’s how you use it

  • +2

Other than VA there's no real weakness..especially under $300. VA has the deeper blacks so it won't be bad at all.

    • +2

va panels can have ghosting issues on darker colours

Not sure why you got down voted as that isn't an opinion. That is a fact. IPS all the way.

        • I have bad eye strains using IPS panel, however not completely sure it is caused by the type of the monitor. But Ive never had this issue before, now my eyes are itchy and red several times every day..

          • @StephenCurry: I'd head to an optometrist if I were you

            • +1

@shaneiwey: Yea if it continues I'll probably do it, given that I've already bought an eye drops but doesn't really help much. From the quick search the other day, it seems like IPS tends to leave some people with worse eye strain issue. Maybe I'll try a VA panel next time.

what's the best curved option? And is this too big for Fortnite play, thinking of Xmas present for the kids.

    • +1

Fortnite can be played at any size above what you would find comfortable (probably 24') - there is not real limit or restriction from a technical standpoint.

I'd be asking how far are they sitting, and how much desk space they have.

also at 32 16:9, curve is more of a gimmick. It really only comes in at the ultrawide 40+ inch setups, and even then its more of a preference thing than a universal advantage.

      • He's currently on a 60cm deep desk, but sits further back as he plays controller.

Is the 34 Samsung a better option? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/812299

        • +3

If he sits further back, he does not need curve at all. The whole point of curved is so when sitting close , the larger screen is the same distance from your face at the edges. Sitting further away, he should definitely go with flat over curved.

These would work really well for a cheap 3 monitor racing sim setup due to the bezels and no curve. Really tempting.

    • You know what works better? VR. Even a Meta Quest 2 is more immersive and the picture quality is quite frankly similar. A Quest 3 would be cheaper than three of these.

I have spent a lot of time on both, VR and 3x QHD32.

Don’t waste your money, VR is the future of racing SIMs.

The only issue is comfort and fogging lenses, without those issues it would be game over,

      • Yeah I was considering this especially as I have little space, will have to try before I buy though and I have bad eyesight so not sure if you can comfortably wear glasses with them on as I hate contacts. What's the minimum requirements for a PC build I'd need if I was to go the VR route? Something like a 6800xt would be enough?

        • +1

Not sure but you need serious hardware to run 3xQHD as well, My mate has a 3080 and runs less than 100fps and even less in some race SIMS

Many VR sets take prescription lense inserts, problem solved, there are online suppliers who are quite cheap.

Plus 3x32 and a rig takes most of a bedroom sized room, huge,

      • My only VR experience is PSVR and I only played a bit of Skyrim VR and remember definitely getting a headache from it, is the quest a lot better for this? I'd assume I'd get used to it but I experience motion sickness if I sit facing backwards on a moving train so I don't like my hopes

        • See if you cant find one with a Q3 and give a test imo

For anyone wanting 27", there's a couple in stock on eBay for $279 delivered after coupon code:

Would this be suitable just as an office monitor? - excel, browsing, the usual boring stuff?

    • Yea why not

    • +2

      Overkill… get something cheaper..

      • +2

        sweetie this is cheap

Gsync compatible? It's not noted as such…I don't quite understand what is/isn't compatible.

    • From what I could see no Gsync but it has Freesync and usually it's one or the other

      • +1

NVIDIA GPUs are compatible (experience may vary) with Freesync as of a couple of years ago iirc.

        • From what I can ascertain re gsync labelling:

          Gsync= has the NVIDIA chip
Gsync compatible= tested and supports, no chip
          Freesync= unknown for gsync

  • Stupid question but can you plug a chromecast in this and use it for streaming tv? Kids room option

    • You'll want a 1080p or 4K monitor for use with a Chromecast.

It may also be worthwhile just getting a small, used plasma or LCD on marketplace instead which will have built in speakers, a remote and HDMI control.

      • +1

2nd this - plenty of cheap TV on facebook market for example. Anything with an HDMI port will work with chromecast tv (chromecast tv can replace your tv remote - it does turn the tv on/off, volume etc when it comes to streaming).

  • Great price.

  • I have this 27 inch version of this monitor but text is not sharp when I put it side by side with my old dell d2721ds. It cause me eye strain when looking for a long time. I have no issue playing games on it.
(Of course I have done all the normal troubleshooting people have done: cable/port/settings/clear text, etc)
I have bring the monitor to samsung to inspect but they could not find the issue.
Any suggestion of what I should do will be great

    • That's a deal killer, eye strain due to blurry text :(

      • I dont know it is just one off issue specific to my monitor only. I had g3 24" monitor and it is allright

    • +1

Did you test it with different PCs? Perhaps you just have a faulty unit.
RTings reviewed it as having good text clarity
They even rated the clarity better than the S2721D (I assume that's what you meant)

      • I did read the review before pulling the trigger. I might just get the bad unit but cannot really prove it.

    • You've probably done this already, only things I can think of are making sure it's set to the right resolution, and ensure the windows UI scaling is at 100%

  • No g9 oled sale ?

  • That curve, yuck. I have an 1800 and it is just right

    • i dont think its curved. i just picked one up from office works, havent opened the box as its a xmas present

  • looking for a 27 - 32" monitor, wondering which brand is better, Dell or Samsung? personally think Dell may have better built quality, Samsung may have better panel quality.

if Dell, like this price, order has been placed.

  • Will Goodguys price match Officeworks?

  • VA panel…what’s everyone’s thoughts on this?

I’ve been watching this monitor for a while when it was ‘cheap’ at $374 lol

    • Can do a lot worse at this price.

  • Any USB-C 27" monitors advertised for Black Friday deals?

  • Thanks OP. Got one

  • If this had g-sync they'd already be in transit to me

  • I’m confused guys is this one curved or flat?

  • The latter

  • +1

Cheers OP got 1 at officeworks

  • Officeworks jacked the price back up to $377
