The code is valid until 31/8/2024 at 23:59

Well, guess using the power of my account, the missus account, an old spare account, and maybe even a new one for the sake of this, I'll have a few months to play Super Mario Land on an official device for once.

    • Seems to be available for Nintendo AU accounts only. I haven't worked my way through all of them, but not available to US

Wondering if the code is linked with the account, or it could be given away

  • Does anyone frequently use Nintendo Online? What games do you play on it?

I've been subscribed for 4 years and I feel that I use it enough to justify the cost, the price isn't outrageous after all.
The main uses for Nintendo Switch Online is cloud saves and access to online multiplayer. I use it to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Smash Bros Ultimate, and primarily Splatoon 2 and 3.
You do also get access to NES and SNES games. Playing the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was fun and has aged considerably well.

There are a few issues though; Splatoon 2 and a handful of other older games do not support cloud saves (There are lists, although short).
Multiplayer for most games, such as first party Nintendo ones do not run on dedicated servers. They are Peer-to-Peer connections, meaning that instead of a dedicated server, one players device is the host. Depending on how stable your Switch is to your internet and more importantly other people's connection, there may be lag and stuttering. This is more prominent in games such as Smash Bros and the Mario games. Games like Splatoon and Mariokart 8 are considerably more stable (you're either connected or you're not).

The Premium version is a bit of a harder sell, but if you want access to the DLC from Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing, and Splatoon 2 and more emulators, it could be worth the extra.

If you're on the fence on getting it, I would personally say just cop the $30 a year and for the times you want to play online/with friends online it's worth having it already.

      • I've had online for two years now, just to play other people in MK8. Whenever I verse bots I always end up in first, it's just nice to play other people and connection isn't terrible. Whenever I try for games in Splatoon 2, I usually end up versing lobbies full of Japanese players which would be ok if the game didn't depend on low pings so much.

        • I've never experience lag related issues in Splatoon 2 or 3. I would also play with Japanese players (although can anywhere because it's Peer to Peer) and never had issues regarding latency. Even managed to hit S rank with the only detriment being team members who were not playing very well or because I was not playing all too well. If someone's connection was bad, people would just disconnect. Perhaps you should consider experimenting with the location of your Switch relative to the router/modem to troubleshoot the instability.
